The only way you can count the influince of system lords on the show How many times the name is used whether the actor is on or off screen And how important the arc is.
When the Go'auld took over the Trust, it really felt like Ba'al would become the show's main villian for a season or two. Just goes to show how much presence Mr. Simon brought to the screen.

Ah yes. During his tenure, Don S. Davis became my favorite. The other characters went out and saved the universe and all that, but General Hammond was the glue, the utterly trusted anchor point for everyone else.
The irony of it is that Ba'al (and Yu), despite his charismatic arrogance, survived so long because he had the humility and respect for the Tauri to partner with them when it served his interests.
Personally, I think Baal and Adria would've made a great couple, shame they never got passed the angry villain flirting (Yeah I know she'd probably just kill him but, admit it, it's a hilarious thought)
i honestly would have liked to see him succeed in taking Adria's body as a host. it's just too bad SG1 yet again saved the day. sometimes i like the what if scenario over the original plot.
@@5226-p1e It would have been cool to have Baal in charge of the Ori fleet for a whole season 11 maybe. But I always felt that the first Prior Adria/Baal encountered would have easily detected the symbiote, which would have lead to its death. Whilst the Prior could probably have saved Adria from the symbiote toxin, she may have decided to ascend anyway.
@@SomeVeryRandomStuff and maybe not. because the goa'uld take the same persona and knowledge of the host when they take over an body. yes you could be right that an prior could sense the goa'uld, however baal could already know this detail and would likely prepare for something like this given his new found knowledge of Adria's mind. baal suppressed Adria's powers by flooding the room with that suppressing agent that made her powers none existent, and the same thing could be done to an prior the moment he passes through an gate. SG1 did this with that frequency generator thing. so something like that could be tied into the gates power source and if and when the gate was active the device could turn on for an period of time and disable the powers the moment before he has a chance to do anything while stepping through the gate. anyway, i have all these thoughts of "what if" happened in the show and what other possible outcomes could take place instead.
It would have been something. there were so many ways they could have taken the show. but execs will exec and they're never the brightest people... all they care about is immediate profit. Not long term income.

These were great episodes. Cliff brought humor to the role and made an excellent system lord. He was a kind soul and a wonderful human. He will be missed ❤
In some ways I think they followed the same thing with Maybourne. A thoroughly unlikable guy, who over time, became endeared to us. I liked how they took his path. Baal though was just awesome.. torturing, cloning, sinister things, yet you often saw his 'humanity' inside when he failed. there will never be another arch enemy I consider as good as Cliff in that role.

Once I read the title "Awesome BAAL Stories" - the exchange between Baal and Sam in The Quest came to my mind immediately. And having seen the scene without audio, now I must watch that episode right away. Btw. describing the system lords symposium as audition for new bad guys is ingenious. PS: Baal was a good character which became a great one thanks to Cliff Simon.

After a while you will hear the echoes of all of our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Ba'al was the best Goa'uld because he was given great writing to work with, and Cliff Simon was a brilliant actor who could make the character his own. He was brilliant and that made Ba'al a unique Goa'uld. This is a great tribute to a great actor, and has some of my favorite stories.

"Ba'al! Buddy!" "You dare mock me?" "You're a Goa'uld. Of course I dare mock you." "Cammy!" There's some great dialogue in Zero Hour. There's a lot of good stuff in season 8, I don't understand people who put that season down.
"Reckoning" is the best Baal episode for me, Cliff Simon is brilliant in this episode and we see all the things that make Baal a great character in this show

By far my favourite Goa'uld, and to this day my favourite 'bad guy' of all time. Suave, sophisticated, with a talent for getting under the skin of his enemies. Brilliantly played and wonderfully written. I wasn't aware of his recent death, very sad to hear. RIP.
That's the best ending for Stargate. A (slightly enlightened) Ba'al appears from the past/future and begins his reign as dictator of the galaxy. I, for one, welcome our snarky charming and charismatic overlord.
Strange I have for the last 3 or 4 weeks or so been binge watching all the Stargate TV shows and movies I of course watched them all years ago when new but I had no idea he passed away until just this moment and I'm a quarter of the way through Stargate continuum just thought that was a strange coincidence I agree this guy was my favorite villain throughout the entire stretch of the series and movies he seemed to be the only system Lord with a sense of humor
He was one of my favourite actors in the series, i was hoping we'd get a spinoff with him working against the other system lords, as he was so clever and manipulative compared to other system lords!
What kind you say about Mr. Simon. It's obvious that he was the best "bad boy" by far and it's even more obvious that he will be missed by millions and not by only Stargate fans but family and friends. Damn, I already miss the guy!
Such a great actor. Would have liked to have seen him on the big screen. He had the ability to make you like a character, no matter how much you were supposed to hate the character.
My personal favourite Baal moments are a tie between ... the time he appeared on TV on Earth as a new entrepreneur on the business scene, and the attitude he displayed when he finally tired of Nerus and shot him! That last one made all the better by the Nerus actor giving some comic relief in that moment.
Ba'al was the best SG-1 villain, and was the only one I was hopping to stick around for longer, now we lost both the villain and the actor. I really wanted him to live on earth like a human, sometimes even help SGC against other Goa'uld, or, like I always wanted, a new series where the galaxy is at a civil war because the powers collapsed and everyone is fighting for power, goa'ulds fighting for control, not as gods anymore, but with influence, but now they have fierce competition from the Lucian Alliance, and even other powers, maybe some remnant units of the Ori force who refused to accept their gods demise, and while all that is happening, Ba'al is relaxing at a SPA, or racing at SPA, man that series would be my fav one.
Darnit i didnt even know. His character of Ba'al was definitivly one of best in the Stargate SG1, all those times he annoyed O'Neill or been annoyed by O'Neill. Dying in accident with only 58 years old, still young. RIP
Can't believe he was only in 15 episodes!! He was such a great on screen presence that I would have said he was in dozens more. Perfect casting.

Baal was the only system lord with style, the others took themselves too seriously and never thought they could be beaten.
He also had charm. I still love in continuum where Ba'al decides to chat with the president instead glassing the planet

Abyss was such a good episode. And I loved Continuum. Watching Cliff Simon in this stand-out role was always a delight. He will be missed.

I have watched SG1 many many many times and never realized how few episodes Baal was on. He left a much bigger impact than 15 or 16 episodes.
