    I agree with the first clip at the roundbout that it is a big deal when people don't indicate. People should ALWAYS indicate, even if there are no other cars about. This is because driving well is more of a matter of habit than thought. I think people's general laziness is to blame for their bad habits on the road.

    19:52. Anyone with any sense would look at the dismounted rider and ask themselves WHY they are dismounted; in the case of a possibly highly strung race horse, it could be the horse is being skittish, and they have dismounted to try and keep it calm - and act accordingly with their great noisy car.
    I have been in situations where even the engine idling has been enough to spook a horse, and had to switch my engine off until the group were well past me.

    At a light controlled junction you having a red with amber unequivocally means that any 'conflicting traffic' has a red. The latest that 'conflicting traffic' can get a red is when your lights go from red to red with amber. (DfT Traffic Signs Manual, Chapter 6.5) Generally if the junction is of any size the opposing red will come on before you get red with amber to give the junction time to clear. The time between conflicting traffic getting a green (the 'intergreen time') is normally at least 5 seconds, where there are filter lights the intergreen time may be as low as 3 seconds but never less.

      Don’t forget that a green light means go, you still have to check to make sure it’s clear and if you don’t and cause an accident you will be to blame

    At 1:05 , there's a habit now of indicating, when two thirds of the manoeuvre have been completed. Obviously, too long an indication might give the impression that the signal has been inadvertently left on, but bad practice has crept in once more in my opinion. 🤔

    I have to admit that when I was a "professional driver", I used to undertake middle lane hoggers, as my vehicle was 36 feet long and restricted to 100 kmh (60mph) and not allowed in lane 3, so rather than sit at 50, I`d undertake. And I noticed with great interest that the California is still open on Brighton Road.

    I quite often don't take any notice of other peoples indicators to be honest unless of course i'm behind them lol . I'll wait at a junction until they've actually turned and i'll only go at a roundabout based on having correct time and distance coming from my right and not based upon their indicator . I'm pretty sure it's your fault if you pull out at a junction on someone that was indicating to turn but doesn't.

    When I first learnt to drive, when I was 21 yrs old, we didn't need signs, lines or indications on the road - we only had the Highway Code and had to know it and the road signs in it!
    I completely and utterly agree with you about altering another driver's speed when pulling out of a junction. I'm pretty sure it's still part of the Highway Code, as well. It really bugs me when I'm on a national limit A-road and somebody decides to pull out when I'm coming towards them at 60 mph! Do they not realise they're putting both their lives and those of myself and my family at risk? Not to mention, they're being rather brave in deciding my brakes are good enough!

    When I was at college I had a mate, Pete Long, who during the summer used to do trade plate deliveries to earn a bit of extra dosh. Tales were told over beers, mostly I might add of the antics of the _other_ trade plate drivers that Pete encountered - Pete was pretty responsible as proto-goth motorbikers go (If you want to see what Pete looks like find a copy of the TV programme "The Comic Strip Presents: Summer School" and look for an extra who's 6' tall and who fits that description. I'm in there too, as are several other mates, but I'm not telling you how to find me.). Let's just say that if your car delivery involves a stage with a trade plate driver, don't expect it to be treated gently. The "tastier" your new car, the more likely that it was mercilessly thrashed on its way to you.

    Am I the only one? The more I watch, the more it amazes me that the police nationwide haven't picked up on the treasure trove you and other content creators highlight. Just think of the money they could potentially raise and the clowns they could remove from our roads. A simple dashcam file sent providing proof - what more could they want? Motorists be doing the job for them (with a better success rate lol). Win/win for road users and the police surely? Another belter of a vid, as usual!!!

    • @ianmason.
      @ianmason. 3 месяца назад +1

      They (the police) do this, search for "operation snap". Dashcam users can upload video to the police who will, if appropriate, act on it. Depending on which police force it is, it can be a bit of faff which is why although I have sent the police evidence of egregious behaviour I don't upload all the naughtiness I see on the roads. I reckon that with assembling the video, editing it into a cogent form that satisfies the police's requirements. filling in the form and uploading the video takes me a bit over an hour. The police are a bit unnecessarily cagey at telling you the outcome, but as far as I can tell the four incidents I have uploaded have all led to satisfactory outcomes.

    "Wide car syndrome" is a disease that affects those who think they are driving buses/trucks/tractors when in fact they are driving cars. I've witnessed it myself plenty of times. Over the middle line to turn even though there is plenty of space to get around. It's the same as the people who have to use the turn lane AND the lane next to it to turn. "Wide car syndrome".

      Growing up with a dad who served in the Navy, I learned it as a "battleship" turn. I drive a full-sized truck and I've clipped the inner curb a few times making a right-hand turn (USA), so I've learned to drive out a wee bit farther into the lane I want before turning. Amazing how going from a Honda Civic to a truck will extend your wheelbase! I don't do battleship turns unless the turn to my right is more than 90 degrees and there's no way to get around without hitting the curb. My daughter drives a lorry...I'll have to ask her if she finds herself doing wide turns in her family car!

    I've had a couple of weird non indicators recently - well, one near miss (as a pedestrian) and one weird BMW (yes, a BMW which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, but was very strange how they did it)
    The one where I was a pedestrian and was waiting to cross just near a mini roundabout, saw a person waiting at the mini roundabout which was to my right, with no left indicator. Once all the other traffic had gone past, I started crossing as the car - who I thought was turning right and therefore away from me by virtue of their lack of left indication, pulled out from the roundabout, and turned left, at which point I was maybe 2 steps out into the road.
    The BMW one was weird by virtue of a series of events:
    1) BMW turned left at mini roundabout without indicating
    2) BMW proceeds to then immediately drive straight through a pedestrian crossing while the lights were on red
    3) BMW starts pulling out to overtake parked cars without indicating (hardly an issue on this road though as it's wide enough to pass the parked cars while there are cars coming the other way). The next bit is where it gets weird
    4) BMW then indicates left, to indicate they are straightening up and continue to pass the long line of parked cars. Yes, a BMW indicated, albeit in the weirdest way ever.
    5) BMW subsequently a bit further along the road works out how to correctly indicate prior to making a right turn.

      BMWs are exempt from stopping at pedestrian crossings and red traffic lights. I should know: as a pedestrian on a zebra crossing on three separate occasions, a BMW ( different one each time, but same crossing) has driven straight over, one only missing me by about a foot. Absolutely got him nowhere, as he had to stop in a line of traffic about 20 metres further up the road. There were cameras at the crossing, but I don't know if any of them got done for it. Crossing has now been replaced by a Pelican crossing.

    American perspective: Where I live, it's a $500 fine to not hook up your trailer lights, and if you are on the expressway, the cops are bound to catch you at some point. Also, that motorcycle filtering on the motorway is just dangerous, and as an American driver don't understand why they allow this in Europe. Motorcyclists are not allowed to filter (at least not in my state) and need to take the space just like any other vehicle, waiting in queues like any other driver.

    • @BlackArabYT

    Overtaking is pulling out to pass on the right side of a vehicle, undertaking is pulling out to pass on the left. Staying in your lane (lane 1) at 70mph while passing vehicles in lane 2 doing 65mph on their left side is not undertaking. It is just passing. It is inherently more dangerous to have to cut across into lane 3 to pass on their right side.

    • @aleopardstail
      @aleopardstail 3 месяца назад

      was taught "undertaking" requires a manoeuvre, either moving to the left before you get past or moving over after (or changing speed in any significant way). simply holding your speed in traffic is not undertaking
      though except at moderately low speed it can be unwise

    • @grumpyoldpianistplus
      @grumpyoldpianistplus 3 месяца назад +1

      Most drivers will glance at their right-hand side mirror when doing a manoeuvre, but rarely look into their left one. Therefore, this is why it is stated in the highway code that you should overtake to the right of vehicle ahead. If you go to overtake on the left side of the idiot in front, who has not gone to the left lane when he could have, then you run the risk of this idiot deciding to suddenly pull over to the left lane just as you are about to pass causing a fright or an accident!
