    If the cyclist at 4.20 had not taken primary position, the car following him could overtake in one of two dangerous ways. 1; by not giving the cyclist 1.5m, or 2; by driving on 'your' side of the road. He could have pulled over once you had passed, but by then, as the road was clear, there was room for a legal overtake.

      Except if you look from the rear view the cyclist is not actually in the middle of the lane. He is nearer to the middle road markings than he is in the middle of the lane.
      Also, read the next line of rule 72.
      1) Ride in the centre of your lane, to make yourself as clearly visible as possible (this is what you're referring to), in the following situations
      The following is what the cyclist should have done.
      on quiet roads or streets - if a faster vehicle comes up behind you, move to the left to enable them to overtake, if you can do so safely
      in slower-moving traffic - when the traffic around you starts to flow more freely, move over to the left if you can do so safely so that faster vehicles behind you can overtake

    0:37 NO: you do not have priority to traffic circulating the roundabout. You will see the double-dashed line on entry to the roundabout and the regulatory "give way" sign - this means that you MUST give way to traffic circulating the roundabout.
    Where in the Highway Code or traffic law does it say what you claim - that you have priority over traffic entering the roundabout from your left?

    • @Holycurative9610
      @Holycurative9610 4 месяца назад +1

      Here you go, I believe the very 1st point about priority covers what you need. This argument happens on this channel at least twice a month and gets old very quickly and in this particular clip the Audi should have given way as LDC was coming from the Audi's right. There is no first come first server law that governs roundabout usage in the UK:
      Highway Code Rule 185
      When reaching the roundabout you should
      give priority to traffic approaching from your right, unless directed otherwise by signs, road markings or traffic lights
      check whether road markings allow you to enter the roundabout without giving way. If so, proceed, but still look to the right before joining
      watch out for all other road users already on the roundabout; be aware they may not be signalling correctly or at all
      look forward before moving off to make sure traffic in front has moved off

      @@frogandspanner You've had to invent the sophistry that the roundabout is a major road and all the approaches minor to make that work your way. If you're going to play with the law then you need to learn the basics first. In English and Welsh law words and phrases which are not otherwise expressly defined are to be taken to have their everyday ordinary meaning. So, the phrase "traffic *_approaching_* from your right" should be given its natural meaning. Had the intention been to mean "traffic already on the roundabout to your right" that is the phrase that would have been used, not the word "approaching" which is clearly intended to include traffic on, and approaching the roundabout.

      @ianmason. but how far back does this 'approaching from the right apply? 2m, 5m or 100m, which is obviously ridiculous but still applies according to you logic taking it literally. In that way, no car can ever enter a busy roundabout.

      I imagine that would be classed as careless or dangerous driving and is unlikely to happen as the person blocking you from joining could cause themselves to be involved in any accident. Rule 259 of the Highway code only covers joining the motorway.

      No anybody on the slip road entering the main road must give way to main road, either speed up, slow down, or in extreme cicumstances stop if it is that busy.

      @ianmason. 4 месяца назад +2

      You do not have to actively do anything to let them on, although you may do so if you wish. If you actively block them from coming on then that might be taken to be the offence of careless driving, but the give way markings on the slip road mean that oncoming traffic MUST give way to traffic already on the main carriageway. What would a "careful and experienced driver" do?

      @@ianmason. I’ve had a bad experience where I was coming onto a motorway and my speed was matching and I found my gap to enter safely when the car that I planned to slip in front of sped up n closed my gap to the point where I had to put on the breaks at the give way lines as I was about to join the motorway. Luckily there was no cars behind me because I feel that if there was it would have caused a problem. The lady that closed the gap wanted the exit just a touch further up and I feel she didn’t want me in front of her being in a learner car. My instructor beep her cos she did it on purpose and what he did was dangerous my instructor said that if the traffic police had been there they would have stopped her. I passed my test June 2023 and I know I’m still a newbie and need more experience but that doesn’t excuse drivers attitude and behaviour no matter how many yrs they have been driving.

      @@michellesimpson4364 Sounds like typical learner abuse. Some drivers seem to hate the idea that a learner might just slightly inconvenience them and do reckless things to avoid that. Someone has got to either have a very bad memory to not remember how hard it was being a learner in traffic when they started out, or if you do remember and still act like that then they have a serious antisocial personality disorder.

    At 0:55 - what a stupid dangerous manoeuvre by you expecting a car to be able to see through a truck. If you had any sense you should have been alive to the possibility of a car emerging. And yet again you use your horn pointlessly and agressivley since they are already over half way across the roubdabout.
    And yet again you flout the preamble to rules 103-158, "The rules in the Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an incident."

If the other car had his view obstructed, then he should have waited till he could see clearly. But, similarly, LDC should have been aware of the high possibility of a car emerging, so his hazard awareness is nill!!

    4:30 I don't think that's fair on the cyclist, actually you don't know the reason and it can often be a good one.
    There is a pedestrian there that the cyclist is passing. Personally on my bike I don't like to be close to or surprise pedestrians by being too close, and I will often move out and then back in again if I'm passing a pedestrian. I think lots of cyclists would do this.
    There could also be a right turn coming up that he is preparing for, where at the moment you don’t want overtakes.
    It might be none of those things, but they are likely.

    I know motorbikes are slightly wider than pedal cycles, but I have a habit of riding my motorbike slightly wider to stop cars passing within 6 inches when they overtake. This is especially annoying on dual carriageways when being overtaken by a car that decides not to use all of the outside lane despite it being empty. I have lost count of the number of times I could possibly reach out & touch a car passing me if I could. On one occasion I was going straight at a roundabout & the road to my left had a hatched filter lane marked for going the same direction I was. As I straightened a hire van decided to overtake me as I pulled off the roundabout!
