This is an instrumental piano cover and Synthesia tutorial of the song "Memories of Green" composed by Vangelis, which forms a part of the soundtrack for the Ridley Scott movie "Blade Runner".

, but some changes have been made for ease of play, or where I disagreed with the notes. Full credit goes to the maker of that tutorial, but any mistakes are my own.

Almost four years ago, age 30, I put this video on to pass some time at a girl's place I was seeing while she was at uni. She had a keyboard in her room. To my astonishment I found out pretty quickly that I could play very well and within a couple hours I had the first part of this piece down and within a couple more weeks had learnt this piece. Four years later I am still learning pieces, playing and composing my own pieces and the piano has possibly become the most important thing in my life. And it was this very video that started the whole journey for me.
Praise Jesus he gave you a talent - I gravite towards the piano i like blues/jazz trumpet too. Encouraging message thanks this is where I am starting. I am told I can play the piano except most people don't realize I can only play atm my own compositions. This will be the first professional grade 8 piece I am going to endevor to learn. Yes when you play you should play to God and you will find eventually you will cross over to new heights and new realms. In todays athiest world that message maybe too warm for cold hearts but I found it to be true.

This is a very obscure song what initially drew you too it. Not many people my age have even heard of blade runner. This movie is so magical. I feel like everyone who’s seen it has some deep rooted emotional connection to the film. Loved reading your story. Very inspiring.
@@entertainingandfun2719 not that obscure - I listen to the full soundtrack at least once a month often more frequently. It's worth hunting out the esper edition - the youtube version isn't great but if you can find the full four disc release it's worth a listen. It's a fan made edit with loads more ambient tracks. Sublime.
@@simontopple911 yesss me too. Those synths put you in such a meditative headspace. Almost like lucid dreaming. Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. I managed to track down the vinyls for both films. Also I found that on Spotify the quality is pretty good.

Fun fact, this song was originally on Vangelis' 1980 album "See You Later" before being included in Blade Runner's OST.
That's actually super interesting. Did he actually write it for Blade Runner and decided to release it before the movie, or did he just reuse an old song for the movie?
@@kitgusto2390 If I'm not mistaken, I believe Ridley Scott heard it before the movie was conceived and insisted it was used in the film. I think he says this in one of the interviews on the special features of the Blade Runner disc set,
The original version, made before the release of the movie, has even the passing by spaceship sounds. Seems really made for the movie.

@@vVilteR Maybe someday. I have this Lt. Worf inside my head who is always like, "There is no _honor_ in duplicating works! Make new things or go back to your soft human bed!" Of course, I don't really feel so strongly about emulating great works, but I have so many original efforts that I would put first.
@@vVilteR You know, I think watching the Chocolate Rain video might have traumatized me out of making any of my music public for a decade. hahaha After that, I switched almost entirely to electronics and code.

So ultimate. And this version still captures the mood.
So emotional and beautiful. Somehow in the original the background noise of the monitors and machines really adds a aspect of building tension. I love it

Well, the length of the album version of the piece is 5:05, so it isn't slower by much. Maybe it seems slower because the synth bits are missing.

@@schneitzlemeier No it's fine. I posted this 8 years ago when the internet was not so big. EMI has published an official version online now. I just barely learned of Vangelis' passing. I used a software called Pianoteq. You probably need to apply some filter to get the de-tuned effect (which isn't present in my recording)
