I should have listened to you. I bought a similar unit from Newair on Amazon. Mine has a black-painted, brushed stainless steel instead of the Insignia's bare stainless. Can definitely personally vouch for the loud noises it makes and the density of the ice it produces. Rock hard. I believe the loud cracking noises comes from a rotating blade attempting to slice through the hard ice. It takes a lot of energy to do that and when it does fracture, it makes a huge bang. I don't want that kind of wear on my teeth (although, I must admit it is a fun feeling swishing them around and having them bounce off my teeth like I'm playing craps in my mouth 😂). Didn't really notice the (d)ice sticking like you mentioned. I mean, they're all constantly melting in the bin, so how are they gonna stick together unless you refreeze them? Also gonna return it.

I can fix these machines. I can tell you how to make it work manually. Mine quit working about a year ago, but i redesigned it and it works fine now, but it's not automatic like before. For starters before you rewire it, try this. Hold the ICE FULL button down for 10 seconds, then release, hold down the ADD WATER button for 10 seconds. This will bypass the ice full sensor and should kick on. It will make ice for a few hours and stop when itgets tired or the water runs out. Just jump start it again. If it doesn't respond, umplug it for about 5 minutes the plug it in and retry the bypass steps. If you would like me to show how i bypassed the sensors in a video just let me know.

This machine is not loud at all. What you can hear is when a few pieces of ice that are stuck together go around the turn table inside & the “pop” is just the 2 pieces of ice breaking apart. But this is so rare! THE BIGGEST THREAT TO THESE MACHINES IS WATER PERIOD! I buy distilled, I’ve bought all kinds & no matter what you will ALWAYS have pink streaks of fluoride in the machine that peels off like w layer of gunk paper. Disgusting!! #NCWasApprovedFor100TimesNormalAmountOfFluorideInBurlingtonArea!! But even bottled water- purified or not- it will happen!!! If you have stainless steel, you won’t ever see this coloration & build up of #TOXICGUNK!!

Srsly, I appreciate honest, straightforward reviews more than flashy intros or over-produced cinematography. A.J. is a rare breed on RUclips these days. I hope he continues to make solid content. We need people we can trust in this ocean of shills.

How long does it take to make ice once you get it out of the box

Literally- about 10 minutes you’ll have a full cup of ice

This machine claims 44 pounds per day- but I think it can make more per day

Usually they won't repair these, just replace them. I modified mine and it works good enough for me. See my response in the comments.

Yea... you have to Frankenstein it. First press the ice full button for like 10 seconds, then release and press the add water button for 10 seconds. It should start making ice again. Doing this bypasses the full ice sensor and tells it to keep making ice. What's happening is under the ice slide there's a infrared sensor that has wiring that tends to rust apart being exposed to constant moisture. I actually took mine apart re-attached the wires in a configuration that bypasses this sensor. Basically it's a manual ice maker now, but I fill it up with water at night, kick start it manually like I mentioned above and by morning its packed full of ice. I do this randomly during the day and it makes ice throughout the day. I'm happy with it working this way and it's still going strong a year later. Frankensteining these machines is the only way it will work.

*MINE WANTS TO START UP- BUT WITHIN 2-4 MINUTES MAXIMUM IT WILL LIGHT UP SAYING “ICE FULL” & THERE IS NO ICE IN IT 😡. SO SO MAD ABOUT THIS ONE. & I HAVE CLEANED IT PROPERLY & OFTEN DUE TO THE WATER- BUYING DISTILLED STILL HAD AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF FLUORIDE IN IT- LEAVING PINK STREAKS ON THE INSIDE & THAT GUNK JUST FLAKES OFF LIKE PAPER - ONLY AFTER MAYBE FILLING 2-3 WHILE TRAYS OF ICE!*
