    In the direct injection world, I think Toyota has it figured out with their D4S technology, they use direct and port injection, valves stay clean and you still get the benefits of direct injection.. loving all the content! keep it coming..

    Good onya dad. Letting us see what Andrew has learnt (from you) and also acknowledging the percentage of the work he does. It makes a lot of difference to an individual's self esteem. Well done both of you. Retired mechanic/machinist in Land Down Under.

    On your valve grinder machine....is the valve always going back to the same spot on the stone?...wouldn't the stone start getting worn from always being in the same spot?i know you flatten/sharpen the stone every once in awhile but that seems like an accelerated waste to me.your machine is similar to the one we replaced here but ours the valve rocked back and forth across the whole stone.boss went with a new rottler settup now to where the stone moves across the face of the valve.do you vacuum check after assembly?i know its hard to kinda show and explain every little tid-bit of the machining/building process,i enjoy your vids

    why isn't the person running the valve grinder not moving the valve across the face of the stone in order to help keep the face of the grinding wheel true ,maybe I was taught wrong, keep up the good work love the channel you are the best 👌

    I've been a heavy truck and diesel mechanic for 25+ years. I currently work at a volvo/mack dealership. The modern volvo/mack engines don't have the lower valve spring locators. I was surprised the first time that I noticed. I thought something was wrong.

    I would never willingly buy a DI motor...but if for some reason ended up with one I'd install a simple water injection system on it to keep the valves clean. Years ago I ran turbo small blocks that needed the WI to stay alive and every time I tore one down it was spotlessly clean inside from the steam cleaning of the water. On a daily driver a couple hits of water injection every time you fill the gas would probably keep the valves clean enough for long service.

    Direct Injection negates all of the detergents in gasoline that wash the stem side of the intakes on normal port injection or carburated engines. The manufacturers need to put a filter in the PCV system to filter the oil particles out of the vacuumed blowby gases.

    You sure have done a good job teaching Andrew! He now has a life career.
    That factory finish was sure crap. Do they all look that bad or was this of a one off?
    From what I see and I am by no means an expert, but direct injection sure seems to cause a lot of problems. I have seen quite a few videos of carbon buildup because of it.

    I was watching him grind the valves and noticed he didn’t move the valve across the stone like most places I’ve seen before is there a reason?

    • @powellmachineinc
      @powellmachineinc  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, this way is more accurate, we don't drag the stone across a crank,cam or flywheel, why a valve?

    When rebuilding a set of heads in good condition like these and not replacing the valves and guides, do the valves have to be placed back into the same guides that they were removed from?

    I thought when grinding valves the valve gets stroked passed the stone?

    • @powellmachineinc
      @powellmachineinc  7 месяцев назад

      We find it's much less accurate, you don't stroke the stone when grinding a cam o, crank , valve seat or flywheel do you?

    • @oscaracme
      @oscaracme 7 месяцев назад

      The valve shouldn't go past the edge of the stone, but it should be run across the full width of the stone.

    • @powellmachineinc
      @powellmachineinc  7 месяцев назад

      @@oscaracme why?

    • @oscaracme
      @oscaracme 7 месяцев назад

      @@powellmachineinc so you don't end up with a "pocket"? in the area where the valve sat that will round the edges of the later ground valves. When you dress the stone, don't you notice the un-eveness going across the stone? You do dress the stone every time after a restart of the valve refacer motor?
