- Seeing the hot air balloons in person was amazing! The hot air balloon festival called the Centralia Balloon Fest is absolutely something I'll go to again.

It was fun to hear how excited you were!! I live in New Mexico and every October we have the International Balloon Fiesta with balloons from a lot of different countries. They are beautiful with a lot of balloon glows, special shapes etc. They have balloon chasers that follow the balloons when they go up. Chasers are in a truck and wherever the balloons land they load everything back into the truck. There is no way to steer a balloon so they go wherever depending on the wind direction. The mass ascensions in the morning are beautiful. I am so happy for you both that you enjoyed it.
I am also from Albuquerque New Mexico, where we host The International Balloon Fiesta The World's Largest Balloon Rally! I am also a Zebra, a launch director for when the balloons are given the ok to launch. It is Magic ~ They are Magic ~" Viva La Fiesta " !!!

What a beautiful park and festival. A few years ago I went to Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta (October 5-13-2024) this year. It too was amazing with the night glow, morning take off looked like hundreds were in the air going over the freeway. If you get a chance I highly recommend the ABQ Fiesta. Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience.

Lots of people were going up in the tethered balloon. Not for me though! Next year we'll for sure watch them all take off (hopefully the weather cooperates).
I worked30 years across the the street from that park, St Marys hospital. If I was working that weekend we would go outside for the early morning take off. It was beautiful seeing those balloons rising over the trees. I'm glad you came up to see them, it is well worth the drive.
It's the perfect park for it! So much open green space with a beautiful pond in the middle. Lovely!
I am so glad to see how excited these balloons made you. We have them in Phoenix. You can see them on weekends coming over your house and see the people. My grandson and I took a ride on one. The fire is at the basket we were in and it was so hot. 8 people were riding with us. A van takes you a few miles to a field and brings the balloon. They blow it up and there was no ladder we had to crawl up in it. After the ride there is a table with champagne and goodies. The van takes you back to the office where you pay. It is very very very expensive in Phoenix to ride but he was going abroad and he wanted you to take me.
Every year at our Christmas parade the balloon people load their baskets on the back of a few semi-trucks and blow that fire up into the air. It's so cool to see and yet while you're sitting in the freezing cold (in Wisconsin in December) you get a wonderful blast of heat. It's like you stepped in front of a roaring fireplace...too much fun!
Oh that's cool!!! And yes.....we could feel the heat coming off all of the balloons because we were surrounded by them. And it was HOT! And oh my goodness....a December parade in Wisconsin must be freezing!
@@WelcomeToMyCurls Oh yes...usually snowy, ice covered roads and so many people bundled up with hot drinks in their mittens, standing or sitting on lawn chairs with blankets watching the parade...Lol!
When I lived in Denton, Tx, they brought a balloon festival to town. Like you said, the Glow Up was absolutely fabulous. Such neat colors and such a variety among the balloons. Thanks for sharing this. I wish that everyone could experience this at least once in their lifetime. So neat.
The Glow Up was my favorite part...especially since it's at sunset. The colors are just so pretty!

We have the Adirondack Balloon Festival in Queensbury New York. This will be its 51st year and runs September19 -22. Gotta love the balloons!

So glad you got to experience hot air balloons!! I live in Albuquerque, NM. And we have balloon fiesta every year... Last year was the 50th anniversary, or weather was not that great, but the balloons did go up a few times.
I hope you go again next year and get to see them launch.

That looked like a lot of fun! I love seeing the different festivals and markets and whatnot that you go to. I live in Canada and we don't have festivals like that...some music festivals and a couple of things around Christmas time but that's about it, so this way I get to live vicariously through you lol
My husband and I love going to festivals. We have never been to a hot air balloon one. Did not realize that those balloons are so beautiful! Yes, do go again and maybe you can watch them go up in the air. Thanks for sharing this experience. I know you guys had a great time!!
That glow up was beautiful, what a fun event to go to. They have a similar festival in the next town over from us, I need to find out when it comes back around and see about attending that. Thank you for sharing!
The balloon festival in New Mexico is the most well known of them all, and I didn't even know of the Centralia one.. I marvel at the efforts of all this floating artistry's colorful and imaginative creativity to be different and stand out from other balloons. Visually, it is spectacular against the backdrop of a clear, blue sky---which is Mother Nature's canvas.
P.S. Did you feel the earthquake overnight?
We have a local balloon festival in Oct, There use to be well over a hundred. Last year there was 12. It is not the same I can tell you.
The balloons pretty much just go where they go and they have a chase car that goes where they land. They have a general idea from the wind charts they have, but it is just a general idea. We used to have them landing all around our area.

We have a Hot Air Balloon Festival in Natchez MS on the Mississippi River! It is always the 3rd weekend in October. I believe our festival is over 30 years old!💖💖

so pretty!! i love all the colors. we tried to go on a hot air balloon ride, way before we were married, engaged. i always wonder if my hubs was gonna ask me marry him then? but we never got to go. due to the rough winds, etc. i always wonder how folks get to ever go? i have heard of 1 that happens in New Mexico, i think it happens in October. ( ;
Hot air balloon alloons travel with the wind/air stream. That’s why the ground crew always has to follow and pick them up wherever they land 🎈
Steering the air balloon's is done through the hot air, gas, flame, whatever you want to call it 😊

Good morning! To answer your question, the only control the pilot has is using the burner to go up and down, the wind determines the direction the balloon goes. Once the balloon lifts off the crew chases the balloon using walkie talkies to communicate. Tidbits: When in the balloon you don’t feel like you’re moving, it looks like you’re staying still and the earth below you is moving. It’s also incredibly quiet in the balloon, so much so you can have conversations with the people on the ground in your normal voice. If you ever get a chance to go on a hot air balloon, I highly recommend!! Have a great weekend!
