My father has been teaching me to engrave over the years but only over the past few have I been able to dedicate the time to focus enough to make gains. In this video, I show the process of engraving a Buck 110 pocket knife with a hammer and chisel. I chose a design of oak leaves and accorns for the bolsters and cut and inlayed a matching medallion into the exotic wood handle. This knife is available for sale at the above link. Only one is available at this time. Once it is sold, the buy now button will list it as sold.

I've enjoyed watching this video a couple times. You're very talented and seem to be a really nice guy with a great attitude I got my first Buck 110 last week from the Buck factory and ran across your video while searching info on Buck knifes. It's a beautiful piece of art in my opinion. I've always admired engraved items like guns and whatnot. You have inspired me to maybe give it a try someday. Hope you're having a great day.
Excellent workmanship, shows a lot of patience, interesting video

Beautiful work.
hey craftsman, this is art ! like your videos, like your voice and i like your person.thanks for sharing.
Stunning, such talent, and patience to do that work, 😃
Thank you, I have people speak of patience but the only time I'm impatient is when I'm doing something I don't want to do, in the case of this knife and other projects like it, I'm doing something I want to do so I don't specifically want to be done..............but I can't say that about everything I do, trust me, I get impatient.
came out really nice!
Wow beautiful job
Very beautyful job 🤩
Beautiful job
I did an inlay on a buck 110 years ago. It was just a tie tack . It was fun but didn’t look anything like yours. Great work!

Love the info.
I do have one of those knives. Excellent job on the engraving, good eye.
Thank you
Incredible. I have heirloom 110's for me an my kids. will look you up when we need customizing.
That was amazing
That is beautiful.
Thanks
Wow, very nice.
The only suggestion I would have is the knife would look so very much better without the brass rivets. Beautiful job, excellent choice of engraving!
Buon giorno scrivo dall'Italia, molto molto molto bravo, complimenti grande lavoro e bellissimo video. Con amministrazione Giorgio
This reminds me of Alec Steele engraving the Viking Sword.
Nice work
Awesome video! Like the variety of projects you've been adding to the channel. The beginning sorta reminded me of your book sale video haha.
Ha, thanks.
@@thehomesteadcraftsman8975 I think it was mostly the posing haha.
Is there anything u can't do lol. I saw u cutting down that big walnut tree last year n now I find out u make jewelry/engrave too.! I'm a silversmith myself. Pretty new to it, about two years but I never thought about hand engraving befor, but it makes sense. I love the old ways myself! And live that knife too. I had one just like it when I was growing up, but seen as I'm from Ireland I'm sure it was some crappy imitation.. U earned my subscription today. I thought I had subbed after the storm felled walnut tree.. Thanks for sharing.. It looked great an I can tell you'd dads old engraved knife ment alot to u😉
Hats off!
Impressive!
Its been awhile buddy! Miss your videos... Merry Christmas!
Great video good call on the no music ! Thank you
Very nice
Awesome!
I own 3 Buck 110 knives, the oldest I've had for over 40 years. I've never had the blade snap down on me.
The first one I bought...also about 40 years ago...did bite me. And that was the last one to do so. Kudos on you avoiding it!
@@johnnyl321 Really? The closest I got was with my daily carry 55, I opened it to cut open a box and the lock didn't snap in properly, turned out some pocket lint got into the notch. I cleared it and it's been fine since. I love my Buck knives, but they don't profile the edge like on my oldest one, the edge is rounded as opposed to a strict V. I never sharpen it, once in a while I'll take a find stone to strop it and it stays razor sharp.
WOW!! Unbelievably bad ass!
I like your music choices and I like being able to hear the tools being used. Maybe find a good compromise ;-).
Dude I bought a 371 Stockman to whittle with the edge retention is unlike anything I have laid hands on. I also bought a 110 and a 112 Ranger Sport. IN ONE WEEK I cut myself on everyone of them.
Judge Fenton speech in Hand Em High! Classic!
OMG...THIS IS THE BEST KNIFE VIDEO!
I had no clue, how you were doing it. Craftsman. Id like you to do mine. Is this your biz? Gonna watch again on my computer. Im seeing this on my smart TV.
Want to see more
Name one thing this man can't do?! Great video!
VERY VERY GOOD .........10+++
Awesome stuff! I really want to get into hand engraving but when I look at equipment it looks a lot like gravers for powered system and I don't know if I'm looking at the right stuff.
Do you have a tools list? ie graver tip, handle, hammer
A few suggestions of which gravers to get for starters would be great!
Thanks!
Very nice...looking forward to this years nutcracker.
Me too, already got a plan.
This is impressive
Thank you
Awesome work, question what kind of ink do you use? Thank you
That’s an art I would love to know how to do.
wow that was great I want to let you loose on my Harley now.
That is beautiful work. Its nice to see such craftmanship passed down from father to son.
Do you take personal requests for work? I have a Buck 110 that I would love to have something like this done to. Please let me know.
Wow!!.
I like the no music decision. The project turned out pretty.
I like how you show your process and include video of your body position and movements whereas so many engraving channels are hyperfocused in close-up.
Why not cut a slot in the curved (front) side of your pine clamping block to house the back of the closed blade?
You could do the slot thing, but it's nice to have the blade open. It helps you see the lines of the knife. which makes a difference of the angle you place the medallion. It's not in line with the blade or the handle, it's kind of in between. The reason all the other engraving videos are so close is most are engraving with pneumatic engravers and microscopes. The cameras are filming through the microscope and the engraver is sitting down not doing much in the way of movement. The vice is set on a turn table, the engraver does a combo of turning the vice and controlling the cut with the other hand. There's nothing wrong with it, just no where near as romantic as engraving with a hammer and chisel. It also has a much easier learning curve vs. Hammer and chisel. But what people are able to achieve is amazing. The extreme magnification combined with the advanced sharpening system makes for the ability to do some VERY detailed work. All possible with hammer and chisel but harder and time consuming.
@@thehomesteadcraftsman8975 That makes sense. Thanks for taking the time.
Thank you for not adding music.
Very nice knife, where did you find the engraving tool you used ?
Waiting to see this years nutcracker!
Nothing like a trusty Buck.
Hang em high in the background! Beautiful work!
I was wondering if someone would catch that from that one line. Nicely done.
I need to take up some engraving classes hahaha
I liked the Silent Hill music you would play. 😁
Very nice! Good video quality, but I would have liked to hear a bit more audio from you explaining the rest of your process. I found your channel long ago by searching engraving. Would like to see more. What did you use for a blackening agent? I have also enjoyed your log milling videos. All very interesting and you are multi talented individual. Thanks for sharing!
The black is flat black spray paint. There are other things that work as well, but the paint works well and holds up. Flat is good so it does not reflect. It's thin so it gets into detail.
how about a video on engraving ROUND barrels?
Did you finish the house?
Not yet, but I am back working on it, had to take a break to work on some other stuff for the past 2 months. Should be done over the next couple months.
