Intalio engraving is an art form that is dying because the new talent isn't there, nor is the interest to replace the old talent, especially in the more industrialized countries. Acid and laser etching can't match the "human" element this artisan has bestowed on this timepiece, a craft that has taken this watch to a whole new level. A close friend had many rifles with examples of metal engravings from all over the world. He loved to show the style differences in the countries, the regions, and the styles of each of the engravers themselves. Such a fine collection, all auctioned off after his passing.
That was like watching Monet paint. I held my breath hoping he wouldn't make a mistake given the value of the watch, LOL! Wonderful to see such craftsmanship still around.
Absolute WOW to the work and the craftsman who created it! I never though about a wrist watch being engraved...now I want mine done and it's only a Seiko.
A friend would buy, restore, and engrave Remington shot guns. The rifles became works of art worth a lot of money. When he dies the auctions were amazing.
Sounds awesome, few engravers actually buy engrave and resell items but only few can make living from it, sounds like your friend did well! Sad to hear about him passing though, maybe somebody i know?!
What I a wouldn’t give for a proper pneumatic graver, I’m currently stuck with the standard Grs flex shaft hammer and a 3D printer and my boss tells people we can do this.... your work is an inspiration
@Coming Soon You get the point... they're saying they don't see well enough to do this... there's no point in acquiring the skills to do it then. Smartass.
Starting my apprenticeship ( well the first one ) as a machine worker, our first task was to make two hack saws, but the trick was it was not done before all of it was like a mirror. And this was regular steel, so by hand it take a lot of polishing with finer and finer sand paper and in the end the finest sand paper with polishing wax on it. So making the saws was just a couple of weeks, the next many weeks we polished them ( by hand of course ) and fights would almost break out if you touched another apprentices hack saw. In the end the place kept the best looking saw, and you got to keep the other one.
CEO of Panerai liked it too, yet there are few reasons watch brands dont do this. There aren't many people able to do that. Its very time consuming (so you can see why only 1mil eur patek philippe is engraved by hand) People able to engrave stainless steel in detail need additional years of learning on top of years they spent learning watch engraving. These are not watches you buy and flip for profit, even though couple of my watches have been resold. However majority lacks information about this art because its so rare and cannot estimate its worth. Ot in worst case scenario think that its done with cheap rotary tool in a shed by someone working in candlelight and are destroying nice watch
Thank you for sharing. You have a talent and I would love to give engraving a try. I have an artistic bent, and maybe I can start small. Maybe one day I will show you my progress. Thanks for the inspiration. You do beautiful work.
Ah, now that's a watch that's worth something. Fuck Rolex Fuck Omega Forget about the diamond encrusted hunks of gold. The workmanship is magnificent. I salute the engraver.
People with this type of skill and patience are remarkeble

I was a little skeptical about someone doing this to such an expensive watch, but the end result is definitely worth it. Excellent work.

Incredible work of art!!!

You handle your engraving like you are tattooing metal 🤘😎🤘 Excellent craftmanship and mad respect.
What incredible craftsmanship
Stunning! Turns an expensive timepiece into a priceless timepiece. I think Panerai should officially commission you.
For most collectors that watch would now have zero value. priceless indeed, but only for the man who owns it.
