Tree Trimmers dropped a branch on my Porsche 911…

  • I just finished this car 250 miles ago. Huge engine out service, cooling system refresh, lots of repairs.
I had a couple of trees taken out at the house and I made sure to show the tree trimmer where my cars were, and move them away as far as possible.
Unfortunately, the one branch they didn't rope down bounced off of their chipper about 30 feet into the car. Its just one of those things, and they are taking care of it. The car will look great when its done but this still isn't the way I'd want it to happen. Nobody wins in this, but at least nobody got hurt, and the car is repairable.

I'm a tree guy. An the first thing I'm doing is checking my surroundings.
Mainly to make sure my truck is not in the way but also no customers are standing down below.
Because I've had customers walking around the tree I was taking down and they were wanting to walk around to watch me. I told them first thing they need to stay back far enough to where the tree falls it won't hit them. An the safest is inside their house.

The way you are handling the situation is a great example for everyone. Some situations suck (bad) but getting angry and vengeful like a lot of people would doesn't help anything. The way people handle situations like this says a lot about who they really are

Exactly! No need to get mad, especially if they’re handling the payments (as they should). It was a dumb mistake of theirs, but it’s a mistake nonetheless and what’s done is done anyways. All you can do is repair it and move forward, because at the end of the day, it’s not that big a deal, at least not enough to be continually spiteful over.

I feel your pain with this. My MK7 GTI was a magnet for this stuff. First new car I bought in a long time. The more I tried to watch out for it the more stuff that would happen. I learned being that lone car in the corner of the lot meant it was vulnerable to all kinds of uncanny stuff. The car picked up mystery dings in the c-pillar, and what I assume was a baseball hit to the body line. So frustrating. I started to DIY PDR because of that car.

Could be worse. When I was a kid back in the '80s, I was helping a neighbor fix up an early Duster, and we got the bodywork all ready for him to take to the paint shop in the morning. Someone passing through the neighborhood overnight had trouble keeping the car pointing straight ahead and hit a few cars on their way home... my neighbor's car was one of the unfortunate victims. I think the car was mostly 'sentimental value' back then, and the damage was just not worth repairing. Poor guy.

Just properly resurfacing is expensive but now multiple new parts that may need to be massaged likely 2k or more depending on year, amount needed heck clear coats can run 1000 bucks or more just for a can of it. Also if that was restored as in specific factory specs, nuts bolts, paint depth, perfect gaps, etc and that owner expects that back … well $$$ is going to flow like water my friend.
