the whole point of this scene was that the cops don't always win because they don't, that's the reality, and this is why it is a brilliant episode and storyline, coz it's very much like real life. Halstead was a Ranger in the US Army, and he trained box with Antonio too, as it was shown in season 1, so Halstead was literally the most prepared but even the most prepared guys sometimes can't defeat such a badass gangster, it is also the matter of bad luck. Plus, it wouldn't make a difference if it was Antonio because clearly the writers wanted to make a point that this Latin Kings guy was a hardcore opponent for Voight's Unit, and the whole point of this scene is that the cops don't always win. It was a very good choice of the writers coz the 'cops always win' trope in every TV show gets boring and unrealistic. So regardless of who it was, which cop, they would lose, because that's what the writers wanted in this case. Btw, a fun fact: Jesse Lee Soffer actor who played Halstead is the best-trained actor in real life too. So makes sense.

I read it in the interview. This is why you saw his character - Halstead - always running on the show, or doing the most physical fights, like this epic fight.
Amen. the current Chicago PD is a completely different show than it once was, and partly it's all because of stupid media and some people went crazy over the police reform when Floyd was killed, and all US cop shows had to change, there was literally a pressure on the showrunners, producers, and networks. and that sucks, since in PD Voight and his team were brutal always only towards criminals, and this was what made this show better than other typical cop shows on tv. now the tone of the show is completely different. but the episode Jesse (who played Jay) recently directed was great because it was like a call back to the old days, it was the old Chicago PD and of the books Voight we all love. so it appears Jesse knows more about what this show is supposed to be than some producers.
The criminal had some krav maga and martial arts training. You can tell when he got out of the lions choke by pushing his weight and bouncing his legs off the refrigerator to get out of it. Very skillful fighter indeed! This was probably the toughest hand to hand combat situation intelligence has run into.
David Su, I agree. He looked very strong and athletic. It takes someone very strong and athletic to do something like that, bouncing his legs off the refrigerator. I mean they were dealing with Colombians for god sake. Those were definitely some tough guys for sure.
This scene has everything the current Chicago P.D. doesn't have, it represents everything that made this show unique among other police procedural tv dramas, and it also has all the elements that the new producers and writers have screwed up more or less since season 7. These elements are: brilliant action& fight worthy of the Bourne franchise, the great writing of the bond between the whole group, the family/friendship vibes within the Unit, and the tone of the original show intact, so dark but with humor, and most importantly - badass. The writers managed to f up all this from season 7 onward. Nowadays we don't have real bonding within the Unit - they don't go out for a beer at Molly's anymore, no real connections, too many unnecessary conflicts and mistrust among the group, the action is still relatively good but nowhere near as exciting as it once was, and if you followed closely the show creators, the interviews and what was happening in the country with all the Floyd mess, protests&police reform slogans, you know that Chicago PD producers started to change the whole tone of the show mid-season 7, tried to 'conform' more to the new reality, to include police reform. And while I understand that as a cop show about modern police, they have to include current events, especially something as big as this, the way they went about it was wrong. The foundation of this show and what made this show unique among other cop shows was that Voight's Unit and Voight himself always acted more like vigilantes, not by the book, they always crossed lines but it was always with good intentions. It was brutal but towards real criminals. This was what made fans fall in love with this show. And they totally changed it since mid-season 7. And they did it in a very forced way. I'm not surprised at all that the actor who played Jay - Jesse Lee- decided to leave the show. I got hurt! I still got up and put a beating on a Jay!!😂
That should have never happened to Kim B.She was supposed to get into this thing more trained.Maybe having an electro shocker or something. But guys didn't show up good either. That guy was really fit.
I still can't believe that you guys had the nerve to kill off Nadia. Even if she did leave on her own, she shouldn't had gotten killed. For example, she could've went to police academy or something
GOD damn this was a great episode
Cada episódio é uma emoção!!! Amo Chicago PD.
