Hi friends! A quick reminder not to post spoilers for "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes". The book isn't out in many countries yet, and won't be for another few weeks, so it's incredibly inconsiderate. Also, many of you have been asking when I'll make videos about it. I won't be making videos about it until the movie adaptation is released, as this firstly gives everyone time to buy and read the book, and secondly will allow us to use the secondary canon that is a movie to base ideas off of. Thank you and happy bubbles!
I have to confess I would like to see or read about some more arenas/games and I feel very bad for that. like I'd make a true capitol citizen taking pleasure in watching the games. please anyone tell me I'm not the only one :D
Don’t feel bad about that at all! For one thing, you’re DEFINITELY not the only one. Tons of people want to see other games too (me included, I think seeing haymitch’s games would be very interesting.) And on top of that, the way we as fans want to see the games is completely different from how the capitol wants to see them. The way the capitol wants to see them is highly immoral because it’s ACTUAL children dying. The way we as fans want to see the games is with characters played by actors. It’s not real, no one’s actually dying. There’s nothing wrong or immoral with wanting to watch that.
@@StoryDiver One of the best series of fanfictions is "The End of World" series by Fernwithy on Fanfiction.net and Archive of Our Own. They are canon consistent, there is nothing in them that couldn't have happened. Just a couple of twists that connect the charcters in interesting ways. But they best thing about them is they are so well written (spelling, grammar, etc.) and lots of world building. In fact part 1 of the series is the games that Haymitch won. Many of the following stories take place from his POV.
I think it’ll probably end in him illegally helping his tribute out in order for him to look better than his peers, possibly gaining information illegally about his fellow students’ tributes so he can train his tribute accordingly, or figuring out the arena so his tribute will be trained specifically on how to survive in that setting.
There's been a lot of backlash to Snow as the narrator in the upcoming book, but I think it'll be fascinating from his POV and to learn more about post-war Panem. It's easy to support Katniss - whereas with Snow, not so much. My concerns are much the same as yours, I fear there'll be too much fanservice. I would like to see more representation of districts not explored in the original trilogy - 5, 6, 9, 10. Especially 9, who we know virtually nothing about.
I agree I dont want Suzanne Collins to go to deep in to his back story I dont want her to mess up this amazing character but I also *really* want to learn more about the other districts and the backstory of the games
I'd think that, if Katniss' grandmother were a victor, Katniss would know. At least Haymitch would, since that would have been his mentor, so he'd remember the name.
I checked. It just says, "In seventy-four years, we have had exactly two. Only one is still alive." It doesn't say when the last victor died, but since Haymitch did have sponsors in his games, I just assumed he had a mentor to send them and then they died after that.
I'm not bothered by Snow being the protagonist like a lot of other people are. I trust Suzanne so I'm still really excited and I think it'll be amazing. Obviously I agree with you on the District 12 female tribute thing though. I feel like it would've been so much better if she was from another district. Hopefully there's no real connection between her and Katniss. Good video!
I'm kind of torn on whether to agree or disagree (with regards the District 12 female, not with regards to Snow as protagonist, I'm 100% on board with Snow as protagonist). I think there is a certain irony to Snow being propelled to power as a result of a female tribute from District 12, only to then be toppled from power by yet another female tribute from the same district decades later. It would also further explain Snows general respect for Katniss as a symbolic adversary, having once been on the other side of someone like her and having experienced the strength of that. Having said that though, I'm up for any opportunity to explore the other districts as much as possible, so that's a bit of a missed opportunity.
I could definitely see Snow having a relationship in this novel, though I'm not sure with who yet exactly. We know from his having a granddaughter (and thus also a larger family) that he was in a relationship at some point. While we don't hear anything about Snow having a wife (or anything about their children for that matter) during the original trilogy, this could be an opportunity to find out more about her and how that relationship came about. One of the most humanizing things about Snow in the film's was his granddaughter, and the fact that he actually seemed to genuinely care for her, so I think it likely that the relationship that ultimately led to her existance could be explored here too, at least a bit. Tons of potential with this book. Really excited for it's release.
In regards to the question about why District 11 did begin career training, I would assume the children are too occupied working on the farms all day, based on Rue’s description of the district and Katniss’s visit.
personally i'm fine with fan service so long as it doesn't detract from the plot. I think Heavensbee hall is something that adds history, and the book is very about history. I doubt though that the tribute fell in love with an Everdeen because if she had i'm sure Katniss would've heard about it. what i'm really hoping from this book though is historical, i love the post apocolyptic genra, i hope we can learn about stuff like how Panem rose, how the US, Canada and Mexico fell and is there any life in the rest of the world? what other countries are there? Also what really caused the dark days? one of the reasons i'm excited that at least this part of the book is told from Snow's POV is that Snow as a prestigious Capital citizen would have access to information no one in the districts at Katniss's time would know about.
@@Dayyllin yeah, i've heard it too. there will be a movie after the release of the actual book. A lot of fans fear that for this reason the book is written in a style to ease the making of a movie and less to create a good storyline.
It's been confirmed Lionsgate is already in talks with Collins about the movie, Pretty sure they released a statement a few months back saying they're excited to be working on another HG film
Couple of thoughts: 1) Snow made so many mistakes in how he handled Katniss which was just so unusual for him. A backstory where he has some sort of emotional link would make some sense of this. It might also allow some type of mirroring as a literary device 2) The fan fiction is so extensive that anything SC might write within this universe would inevitably have some flavour of fan fiction. She simply can’t avoid it so needs to control it. I like SC as she uses literary cliches to tell a deeper story which is something most fan fictions don’t achieve, so I think the final tone of this book will be richer.
I hope so too. I would be honestly disappointed if he becomes the man he is because of his angry over a romance blah blah. Honestly hope it’s not all centered around a romance.
clara have you read the sample from the upcoming book? Snow gets to be the 1st mentor to the female tribute from 12. Makes me think there *must* be a connection that runs in Katniss’ family!
I’m not sure it will be a YA novel. It maybe be more targeted to the hunger games when they were in their early teens 11-16ish. These people would now be about 17-23, so this new book may be a darker novel aimed at them.
Why wasn't Snow's family at the execution? I just thought that if Coin wanted to punish the Capitol, she would want Snow's family there to " say goodbye".
I actually like the fact that we get to know Snow. This shows that even the ones who we see purely mean and vicious, have a kind and loveable side. Also, we might know how he got to such a pro-hunger games person. As in why would he love a girl from district 12, and so many year laters, kill like every one of them. I also understand when fans say they don't like this aprouch of the fourth book. However I think Collins knows her fanbase, and she will put a lot of time in displaying the games. We will watch the games together with the protagonist at the same time. This way we will see the games as well as the interpretation of the capitol during the events of that particular game. I think that the books will surprise those fans in a good way. If not i only have one thing to say to Collins: May the odds be ever in your favor. Also, In the moment i have to choose between buying the hunger games trilogy (books) original or the ten year aniversary. the anniversary is €15 more expensive. Is it worth the extra or should i just buy the originals boxset? I like the looks of the white ones more, however when i'll add the fourth book, i want them to look alike. like same hight, etc. what's your thought. I hope it could make my decision a bit easier. Greets from district Belgium
I have an "original" set and the 10th anniversary set. They're the same heights and dimensions, and the 10th has exclusive interviews from Collins. Other than the interviews, the books are the same though, so it's up to you
I actually have a theory on snow possibly being a hero here but a villian later and it comes from an old proverb "Power corrupts." it's possible that Coriolanus Snow first sought for rule for the right reasons but in his quest for power he probaby did things that were morally wrong like Assassination and that is in and of itself a slippery slope, once he gained power though he probably grew paranoid of losing it like most dictators and was willing to do anything, cross any line to maintain his power.
I loved the idea of seeing things from Snow's perspective. See what happens outside the arena it's so interesting. About the girl, I really hope that she is not connected with Katniss. In my opinion he'll use a strategy with sponsors to make the girl survive. Maybe this girl reminds Katniss somehow (not the genealogy) and that's why Snow sees her (Katniss) as a threat.
I wanna see a bit more of the other districts because we already have tons on 12, but not so much about 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10.. I'd even like maybe a few more details about other aspects.. Maybe other arenas that didn't fail, but that weren't a forest or a jungle...
I’m super excited to see the evolution of a young snow ... I also really want to see his views during an actual hunger games taking place then , but possibly his actions towards Katniss has something to do with a love interest that’s a tribute in part of the hunger games (that reminded him of katniss )only to be heartbroken and the ideology of how the capital works
I agree with you. I too am a little disappointed that Snow is mentoring the female tribute from district 12. We already know the most about district 12, and not so much on the other districts. I hope the book gives us more information on the other districts, and give more tributes names. I wish he could have been mentoring a tribute from district 8,9 or 10 for example. But I’m so excited! And amazing video!🤍
It could probably mention the first 9 hunger games victors. Cuz before this book came out, Mags was the oldest living Victor known to be alive since she won the 11th hunger games age 16. As by this point, at least 6 districts should have had at least one Victor by now
I think its very likely that this female victor is given the mockingjay pin by Snow, in the book Katniss describes the pin as being expensive and made of gold; even for the family of a mayor this kind of thing is incredibly hard to come across unless you have major wealth. This is why I think Snow will give the pin to her as a gift, which she will take when she returns to twelve and will pass down; this victor being an ancestor of Madge and Maysilee Donner. The mockingjay pin itself is a metaphor FOR Snow and this girls relationship. The jabberjay, a creature created by the capitol that is known for being all male and black feathered and a mockingjay, a songbird that is naturally from the wild and white/grey in colour mated to create the mockingjay. I also think that this book will showcase Snow creating the idea of a "celebrity" in Panem, using his social cues and his ideas to turn this random girl from District 12 into the first tribute that people root for. By doing this Snow practically creates the games that now exist and this would explain why there are moments when Snow does in fact show interest In Katniss. Along with this, this creates a perfect roundabout for the series in that the games as we know them were created with the victory of a girl from District 12 for only 60 years later a girl from District 12 is the one to stop the games.
High bottom on day in a meeting: what if we take kids from each district one boy and one girl and have them have at it until one survives. The other capitol citizens: GENIUS!!
I like your idea of the girl is in a relationship with mr.everdeen and maybe when Katniss’s father was born the mother died during childbirth and his father dosent like talking about her and that’s why nobody knows about her
I’m loving all the theories about what this book can be about. Hearing all the different routes has reinvigorated my excitement for this book. Initially I thought it had nowhere to go besides fan service (such as known winners’ games) but Capitol life and the young character of Coriolanus sounds interesting. Side note, an idea for a video maybe: I’ve always wondered how Katniss and Peeta would have performed as mentors (if the rebellious spark wasn’t lit). I’m curious as to what your thoughts on their strategies, how this may affect how many District 12 Victors there are and how they deal with the terror of it all. Thanks for reading if you did :)
I’m so glad you made this video. When I first read the exert, I too felt like it was a lot of fan service, but then I remembered that lionsgate already said their making a movie out of it. For fans that have only seen the films it can be an introduction to characters that were cut out. As well as pose new questions about character we already have established for book fans.Since the position of the mentor is still being worked out in these hunger games the “mentors” are actually for filling the responsibilities of what would later become the escorts explain to movie fans what the escort does besides calling the names which was cut out of the movies. Which explains how Effie trinket in the original trilogy could have gotten the job as an escort. We can now assume she was an former student at the Academy and as katniss said it “to hear her say it Effie knows everybody who’s anybody in the capitol.” With that explained, that poses the question what makes the trinkets such a prominent family? I also feel that the dean always being high on morphing can explain to fans that have only seen the movie why haymitch called the District 6 victors “the morphines” in catching fire it sounds like it’s their name not a drug as well as the depth of its addiction being cut out of the mockingjay films. There for with Sussan Colin sayin this being a book about morality I believe that the dean feels guilt about the hunger games and is using the morphine to escape. As for Livia Cardew she being in this film can make up for Effie trinket filling in for Folvia Cardew in the mockingjay films.
Lionsgate aren't making a film yet, they are planning to *if* the book does well. If the point of this was to make a new film, they would bypass writing a whole book and just make the movie
Story Diver yeah I know they have to wait for the book and for sales to be good. I was just assuming if it does so well as a book once the production for the film begins then those changes can be implanted. But it can always go the curse child way I’m just really hoping it doesn’t lol
President Snow being a hero makes absolutely no sense but hopefully they can pull it off lol. I’m so hyped for this new book cuz I’ve loved hunger games for years
I honestly wanted a story about Haymitch. He was my favourite character in the first and second books and the movies, I haven't read the third book yet. I know we learn about his story in the second book, but I would have loved to see the inside of his head and his fall in and after the games. I also don't think that this new character from district 12 needs to be related to Katniss in any way. I liked the idea of the first district 12 winner to just suddenly disappear after her winning and that's why no one remembers her. I thought, hey, if there's gonna be a love story, then boom, that's how you make people forget the first district 12 winner. Especially, if she had no family to go back to or they were sworn to secrecy. Like, seeing Snow fall further and further from something he once believed just so he can save a girl and by getting his way by using these twisted methods, he never went back because it kept working.
The winner of that games is actually known. Magnus says that the previous oldest victor of district 2 was Griffin Naismith (male from district 2), who won in the 10th games. Sejanus Plinth is this tribute’s mentor as said in the excerpt: ‘Sejanus Plinth scored the District 2 boy’.
Thank you for acknowledging that Snow isn’t going to be the hero because he’s a good guy, he’s only going to be the hero because that’s how he sees himself. People don’t seem to understand this lol some have even said they refuse to read it just cuz he’s the main character
A lot of the fanbase is still quite young where the world is very good and evil and there’s no in-between. Hopefully those who do read this book will use it to help them see that the world isn’t so simple!
4:36 the career districts well strong and close to the capital, wealthiest, and most loyal to the capital perhaps 11 was just to far from the capital to properally maintain.
The one thing I’m really wondering is how long a game in the amphitheater would last, because surely that would be nowhere near arena-sized! Love your videos 💖
Exactly like im not for genocide but if the movie or even the book gonna be entertaining they better have a good arena and not some roman colosseum type. I like the survival aspect is all like surviving in the forest
I am still looking forward to reading this, in spite of the fanservice and the tribute Snow gets being from 12! Perhaps it’s his tribute who tries to outsmart the Arena/Capitol, which intensifies Snow’s hatred of 12, although, if that were the case, he’d probably have it under even stricter control than 11.
Based on the fact that 12 is the poorest district, Snow would've just let them starve as a means of control. And if your mind is so focused on food and trying to survive? Why would you think of rebellion?
I doubt that the that the tribute he falls in love with is Katniss grandmother as everyone for sure would have talked about it after Katniss won and Katniss would know that her grandmother won the games also I think that when snow gets into power he would’ve manipulated it so that Katniss father would have been in the games seeing that he is the child of his love who rejected him and we know that her father is not a victor. Also Katniss father would not have been poor
I just have a bizarre thought: what if many people don't remember about the fourth victor of the district 12 because: 1) It was a long time ago. 2) It was a long time ago and she ALSO becomes Snow's wife (before he become a president). 3) She dies in "mysterious" circunstances maybe because she was also a political adversary for Snow and her ideias were different of his.
I’m definitely excited about the book. I don’t like that it’s a district 12 girl and, what you said, that she could be in love with Mr. Everdeen, however, I definitely think this book will be really good, and that she will talk about how too much power harmed snow. I hope this doesn’t turn into a cursed child situation
All people saying that the D12 girl is related with Katniss, but well, if it was true it would be related with a mercant that aren't as poor as seam. So maybe is related with Peeta? I really prefer not to be related with any of them and just another story focusing on the capitol point of view, or other districts.
I thought, as I read the excerpt, that Snow would end up poisoning someone that would be mentoring a district 1, 2, or 4 tribute to mentor them himself somehow.
@@StoryDiver But that sounds too sudden. If I was writing it, I would have Snow realize he still has a playing card to gain recognition by attempting to get the female tribute from 12 to win in order to humiliate the others. The female tribute would win in the end, but in a way that humiliates Snow himself instead. Snow would then be viewed as a mistake, and would lead him to realizing that playing fairly isn't the way he should do things since no one is fair to him after the Tenth Hunger Games. And instead, he will take things by force. This would lead to him poisoning others to gain leadership. And eventually he would execute the female victor from 12 for her actions in the games that led her to win.
It would be interesting if Snow's heart got broken and that's why he became so ruthless and want to become the president, therefore having all the power, because he helps his tribute win
For the name of the book Songbirds= mockingjay= katniss Snakes= president snow And ballad can sometimes mean romantic song so I think you’re right to do with the prediction of president snow falling for a Ancestor of katniss
I'm quite keen to see the worldbuilding aspect of the series: the formation of the arenas, mentors, and so on. I'm also interested in knowing what role each district played during the Dark Days, and how that influenced their condition and wealth (or lack thereof) by the time of the main trilogy, especially Districts 11 and 12. But I think with someone like Snow as the protagonist, there's a slightly blurry between a compelling villain who has been well-written with an interesting backstory and "oh poor little rich boy has suffered so much, let's give him a pass for all the horrible things he's done". A throwback to some speculation from earlier: maybe this IS the Games where Mags wins, and the District 12 girl dies (but I don't know how likely that is).
@@StoryDiver Ah, I see! Thanks for clarifying! Should be pretty interesting, and it'll be fun if Collins gives us a twist: keeps us thinking that the D12 girl is going to be the Victor, but then she dies right at the end.
The quote by Snow about underdogs isn’t part of the book, it was created through the movie... so I don’t think he’s necessarily against underdogs, certainly not by the movie quote alone
I wish that this book was either about one of the less talked about Districts: 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 or about Mags’ games. I think seeing Mags’ games would give us a lot of new information: Panem after the dark days, the early years of the hunger games, how the career tributes worked that early (if at all). It’s likely during Mags time that there weren’t even careers because there were no Victors to train them. I think it will be interesting to see it from the view of Snow, but I wish we knew more information about this universe from the Districts POV.
Yeah that’s how I thought too I was like thinking it sounds like a fan fiction and not an actual book But the one thing I would love to see is I would like to see Effie Trinket in the book she was my favorite character from the original box and so I’m like I wonder if she was alive during this time
I highly doubt it, Effie was still relatively young in the main series (probably in her 30s) whereas she would have to be at least 64 to be in this book (and that would be as an infant)
It'd be cool if the girl that snow loves had the mocking jay pin and at the last scene she pawns it then the last scene can go to katniss picking it up
Story Diver really? I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Lionsgate already bought the rights to make a movie🤔 Even if it’s not confirmed yet I really doubt that there won’t be a movie one day btw love your videos!!❤️❤️
Mona Emson lionsgate do have the rights, but that doesn’t mean there will be a film. They have to wait to see if it would be worthwhile financially first
Another way that Snow changes from good to evil is by the District 12 girl possibly faking love/feelings for Snow. This will cause Snow to believe that if he helps her win, they will be together ... however, (when she wins, IF she wins (if she is truly the 10th Hunger Games Victor)) he is betrayed in the end by her. Explaining why he doesn't like District 12 and why he abuses his power against many of his opponents (whoever he sees as an enemy that could effect his power) LOVE is dangerous/abusive Despite this having some sense of giving what the readers want ... we can always be surprised by unexpected twist
Sadly in another hunger games book (different author. Basically many authors were allowed to write about a different game) and its shown that the disrict 12 victor was male. I suspect a more realistic idea is that Snow and the female tribute fall inlove but she dies and he becomes bitter.
The best way to describe someone instead of hero or villain, is antagonist to protagonist. You could have a book or story (Thelma and Louise, Willie Sutton, Butch Cassidy etc) that follows them committing crimes but they’re not Heroes even though you may be rooting for them.
I have a feeling that Snow mentors District 12. He falls in love with the district 12 female tribute. We know that she wins as there was another female victor from district 12. They have a child and then something happens to her or she runs away, he then has a deep hatred for district 12. Katniss reminds him of his lover and that’s why he has hated Katniss from the start. I haven’t read the book or any exerts, this is just my theory.
Personally, I don't consider the use of familiar surnames like Heavensbee or Cardew to be fan service. Panem is supposed to be a future Roman Empire, so it is to be expected that wealth and power are mostly held by a handful of prominent families.
I think that the ones where the girl survives can’t really be as possible since a boy named griffin was the true winner but they really credited Shine (I think that’s their name) with the win. I’m honestly not really sure where it talks about these people in the books, but I searched it up and that’s what came up. Even if it’s it the movies I think it may be cannon because Suzanne Collins helped with it and may have added small details.
I don't think Snow's tribute becomes the victor- this is the 10th games, right? And the first female victor was Mags during the 11th Hunger Games wasn't it? And Snow is mentoring the female district 12 tribute. I also disagree that including Heavensbee is fanservice in this case, we know that he works his way up to one of the most important jobs in the capital, Head Game Maker. That he would've gotten his start at an Academy and came from a rich and prestigious family makes sense. In some ways I'm actually more interested to see him in the story, and hope there are some brief interactions between him and Snow or him and other characters that we get to read. We know he becomes a rebel, but fans have always had to theorize how he got there. Knowing now (with the two excerpts) that he grew up in a time when many citizens avoided the Hunger Games gives some light into how he may have became the rebel we knew. I'm less interested in Snow as a character than him to honest, even though we probably won't see much of him.
my theory is that the first chapter will be written in 3rd person p.o.v. because they hadn't introduced us to the protagonist yet (d 12 girl) and then when we meet her (cut to district 12) it will be told from her perspective.
I like the plot but as you said I wish it was in a different district that we barely know anything about like maybe 56789 or 10 we haven’t have barely anybody from that district that was really important to the story another reason I wish it was not 12 is because snows tribute and 12 could’ve been the last two Tribute and the other tribute one that would make snow really angry
Casca was also the name of a Roman...who fought in a civil war in Rome...so I bet the Dean is a civil war veteran? Might have lost friends and family in the war and had a bone to pick with the districts? Or he could just be a professor that studied ancient history lol and I cannot wait to see this old arena! I wish Snow would have gotten a tribute from 1,2,or 4... and the district 12 first victor killed his tribute he was trying to help win and thus he didn’t get his scholarship...that would have been a great reason he hates district 12!
What if the female tribute Snow is mentoring refuses Snow for the male tribute of 12 and that male tribute is Mr. Everdeen. Also, I am also disappointed about the prequel because I expected if there was a prequel it would be about Haymitch and Maysilee Donner’s Quarter Quell.
Can you do what happened to 65ish of the other victors? Why were they never really mentioned? When they overthrow the capital the scene where they decide on the Capitol version hunger games she said “the previous victors decide” why were the rest not included? What happened to them and where are they now?
Story Diver thank you! That should’ve been included in the movies. That would’ve been a turning point to watch while katniss says “if we burn, you burn with us”
Wait, what if the district 12 girl wins the hunger games and they do end up together and she is the grandmother to snow’s granddaughter? (Just a thought and I don’t think I worded it well -.-)
That's cool that means that Mags won one of the first arenas where they had to survive the elements over just the fighting tributes. Edit: I'm hoping for the love story theory, because that would explain his detrimental and excessive obsession with Katniss/The Mockingjay. It almost seemed like he was too concerned with the teenage girl from D12 rather than the war at hand in the original trilogy.
No I know that, but I just believe that his vision of Katniss' death was the only deluded hope he could cling to in order to win, what I think was an unwinnable war for the Capitol, regardless of Katniss being alive or not. Maybe I'm wrong and am irrationally devaluing Katniss' position, but I think the districts would have carried on triumphantly even with her as just a martyr.
I personally hope the book focuses on other districts such as 6, 8, 9, or 10. I believe the books and the movies don’t really mention those districts enough. I would love to see the difference between 12 and 6 for example so we can get a good comparison of the way they live and work.
When I think of an eighteen year old president snow. I think of Finnick, hence excerpts saying he has a charm in him and that he is handsome. A finnick type mentor would be so cool
Hey girl!! Just found your channel and have fell down the rabbit hole of watching them ALL. You’re great! But hearing you talking about The Hunger Games so much in a very unbias way... I am SO interested on what your strategy would be in the event you were playing. My video request is for you to make a video explaining your gameplan throughout each stage of the game and maybe explain scenarios and how you would react based off knowledge you know from the book. Example: How you would deal with the bloodbath? What arena would you be best in? Allies or no? Would you attend the feast? MUCH LOVE & I can’t wait to see if you take me up on this video idea. ❤️
Thank you! My personal plan is very simple: get people to trust me and ally with them, then kill them in their sleep. Though realistically I know I’m going to die in the Bloodbath 😂
Story Diver Ahhh!!! I think we all wanna see a video about it. What kind of allies? What districts? I’m just so interested and always have these convos with friends lol, that’s why I’m asking. Go in depth girl, you got this! If not, thanks for the comment. Much love. 💙
Maybe, he trusts someone from district 12. The person somehow kills his love interest. That way - in the future - he hates everyone from that district. He goes so far as to - only allowing the choice person one sponsor no matter how many people try to give district 12 extra things in the games.
also, I'm pretty sure the tribute that snow gets isn't that important because I've heard that mags was the first female tribute to win which her games was the 11th hunger games
There’s no mention of that in the book. It says nothing about mags being the first female Victor. That’s a theory that has been made “true” after about a decade of fan fiction universe building. it’s definitely not canon.
Hey, got a very quick theory here (maybe a tad bit implausible, but interesting): Maybe the reason that Snow didn’t have much money was because he was once an Avox, but did some kind of noble act for The Capitol. Maybe this, combined with his charisma, was a reason for The Capitol to let him have surgery to restore his tongue. Then he managed to get a position at The Academy, got trained as a guide, etc etc. As I said, probably not true, but interesting to think about.
It’s highly unlikely Snow was an Avox. There’s no way to undo the surgery, and he came from a prominent family. Also, an Avox would not be forgiven to the point of being allowed into the most prestigious school. Obviously anything is possible, but that does seem highly unlikely
There is unfortunately, as Collins has already linked multiple characters that have no reason to be related other than fan service. And this would be the ultimate piece of fan service
I hope this book mentions the first 9 victors of the hunger games. And since by this point districts 1,2,4, and 11 have already had at least one Victor, I really want to see if some of the other districts like 5 or 7 had a Victor also. Cuz based on how far Foxface made it in the 74th hunger games using her brains and wits ( which ironically got her killed by eating nightlock) it can be implied district 5 produces some of the smartest tributes in the games. As for district 7, some of their tributes like Blight and Johanna already have an advantage wielding an axe, something any career tribute like the district 1 female Haymitch fought would have. It would make sense to see that districts 5 and 7 are the strongest non-career districts. Cuz in a deleted scene in the second Mockingjay movie, it should that the very first hunger games victor was a female tribute District 7 named Fir Yule
I'm not sure if District 5 can be said to have the smartest tributes. Foxface being smart doesn't mean they were all smart, and it's hard to use just the one tribute as a base-line for the entire district. Fir Yule is a tribute from many popular fanfictions, it's not confirmed in either the books or movies that she's real (I just checked the deleted scenes for Part 2, and there's no mention of her)
I personally would enjoy this being a book based on what the fans want and I would like the district 12 girl to relate to Katniss because I love it when things click and I realize how all the puzzle pieces fit together and I would love this book to really tie into the others this is just my opinion 🙂. P.S. sorry for the run on
I would like this as well. It would be so interesting and give the original series more depth. But also if something like this were to happen Katniss would have probably found out about it somehow, especially if she won the games as she would have probably mentored Haymitch. But it isn't certain.
I'm willing to bet President Snow mentoring the district 12 girl to victory in the 10th hunger games in new book set the tone on why he hates the poorer districts 10,11, and 12. Cuz in the movie, Snow stated to Seneca Crane that he's been to those districts and there are many underdogs. And if Crane could "see" them, he wouldn't be cheering for them to win over the other districts, especially the career districts 1,2, and 4. And based on the fact that the entire original trilogy revolved a you-know-who from district 12, and from watching over 60 years worth of hunger games, President Snow sees any Victor from 10,11, or 12 as a huge threat to the Capitol's rule over Panem. Snow killed Haymitch's family not because his axe+ forcefield stunt was an act of rebellion, but because Haymitch indirectly made the Capitol look like idiots for figuring it out. And just look at Katniss and Peeta's nightlock+ star-crossed lovers stunt. That was even worse than what Haymitch did in Snow's eyes. Cuz in catching fire, Snow said this to Katniss "If somebody from district 12 from all places could do what you did and get away with it unharmed, what makes you think others wouldn't follow? What makes you think an uprising won't occur? ". Now you see my theory? And a bit unrelated, I'm willing to bet Chaff from district 11 did something that angered the Capitol in the 45th hunger games. That would maybe explain why he became a drink like Haymitch. It all ties in to why Snow hates the outliers 10,11, and 12
what if it was the lady who gave katniss the Mockingjay pin was the tribute who won and was forgotten about and that's why snow realises the pin on katniss because he gave her THE PIN AS A SIGN OF LOVE BECAUSE HE LOVED HER !!!!! ?????
Most fans are curious about other Games too, it isn’t unusual at all. It’s why so many fans have written fanfiction about other Games!
I can’t wait to see this old first arena! Lol
We all do that tbh
I think it’ll probably end in him illegally helping his tribute out in order for him to look better than his peers, possibly gaining information illegally about his fellow students’ tributes so he can train his tribute accordingly, or figuring out the arena so his tribute will be trained specifically on how to survive in that setting.
It’s possible!
meme Meme or maybe he uses Poison as stated in the books for him to get to the top by using poison
Woah, you are kinda right in a way lol 😂
They did fall in love with each other I think he will do anything in his power to help his tribute win
@@maevemed2.043 I don’t even think he will
There's been a lot of backlash to Snow as the narrator in the upcoming book, but I think it'll be fascinating from his POV and to learn more about post-war Panem.
Killian Glynn all we know about 9 is that it has ~15,100 people, and is Grain
I'd think that, if Katniss' grandmother were a victor, Katniss would know. At least Haymitch would, since that would have been his mentor, so he'd remember the name.
Very true!
I checked. It just says, "In seventy-four years, we have had exactly two. Only one is still alive."
It doesn't say when the last victor died, but since Haymitch did have sponsors in his games, I just assumed he had a mentor to send them and then they died after that.
Im pretty sure I read somewhere the victor who passed was an older man when he mentored Haymitch. I swear it was a male
@@benjlar1902 No, the gender of that victor was never mentioned in the trilogy, and Haymitche never knew them. Or at least he never mentioned them.
:( im sad about this comment
I'm not bothered by Snow being the protagonist like a lot of other people are. I trust Suzanne so I'm still really excited and I think it'll be amazing. Obviously I agree with you on the District 12 female tribute thing though. I feel like it would've been so much better if she was from another district. Hopefully there's no real connection between her and Katniss. Good video!
Thank you!!!
Having said that though, I'm up for any opportunity to explore the other districts as much as possible, so that's a bit of a missed opportunity.
when you read the book you'll find out that its actually really interesting the way they... well, you'll have to read the book XD
I do agree that Snow already has enough reason to hate Katniss. I really hope that Collins doesn’t relate this District 12 girl to Katniss.
So do I!
That's very possible!
personally i'm fine with fan service so long as it doesn't detract from the plot.
I can’t wait! , hoping a movie comes too! Yet again , we have to see if the book does well! your videos are always Very Enjoyable!
We’ll have to wait and see if there is a movie!
Thank you!
I think there is a movie coming out. Idk I heard it somewhere that Lionsgate is helping out Suzanne with the book? Idk
Billy Verlaek I think Suzanne would fight for the book to have good story lines even if that makes the filming harder, I wouldn’t worry
Couple of thoughts:
1) Snow made so many mistakes in how he handled Katniss which was just so unusual for him. A backstory where he has some sort of emotional link would make some sense of this. It might also allow some type of mirroring as a literary device
2) The fan fiction is so extensive that anything SC might write within this universe would inevitably have some flavour of fan fiction. She simply can’t avoid it so needs to control it.
I like SC as she uses literary cliches to tell a deeper story which is something most fan fictions don’t achieve, so I think the final tone of this book will be richer.
I hope so!
That seems unlikely, Collins has said many times she enjoys writing for teenagers and doesn’t see herself writing for adults. It’s still possible!
Without giving away a ton of details...this book does have a darker and more violent tone than the originals
Why wasn't Snow's family at the execution? I just thought that if Coin wanted to punish the Capitol, she would want Snow's family there to " say goodbye".
They may have been imprisoned
I agree!
Remember the fact that Snow has a wife and children and grandchildren. They may have something to do with it too
It's possible!
As by this point, at least 6 districts should have had at least one Victor by now
Hopefully we will see more of the other districts!
I really enjoy your theory crafting; it makes you appreciate the books on a new level.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy the videos!
I like your idea of the girl is in a relationship with mr.everdeen and maybe when Katniss’s father was born the mother died during childbirth and his father dosent like talking about her and that’s why nobody knows about her
It's possible!
I'll look into your idea!
I’m so hyped for this new book cuz I’ve loved hunger games for years
We’ll have to wait and see!
That’s from fanfiction, so no, they aren’t known
You can find the excerpt here: ew.com/books/2020/01/21/hunger-games-prequel-exclusive-excerpt/
I bet it will be an old super dome structure.
Oh I’m still looking forward to it too! Definitely keeping an open mind
I just have a bizarre thought: what if many people don't remember about the fourth victor of the district 12 because:
1) It was a long time ago.
2) It was a long time ago and she ALSO becomes Snow's wife (before he become a president).
3) She dies in "mysterious" circunstances maybe because she was also a political adversary for Snow and her ideias were different of his.
yes! thank you for the great content. I have been waiting for a good video to explain these types of things well. Thanks Story Diver.
I'm happy you enjoyed the video!
I’m definitely excited about the book. I don’t like that it’s a district 12 girl and, what you said, that she could be in love with Mr. Everdeen, however, I definitely think this book will be really good, and that she will talk about how too much power harmed snow. I hope this doesn’t turn into a cursed child situation
i love your videos so much, you’re so eloquent and easy to listen to
Thank you so much!
It's possible!
One always likes underdogs. Stay well and dive safely.
Thanks for the update, I loved this video!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video!!!
It would be interesting if Snow's heart got broken and that's why he became so ruthless and want to become the president, therefore having all the power, because he helps his tribute win
I find it interesting that the dean of a school would (maybe) be the creator of the hunger games, which targets children and adolescents.
Love the video! I would love a video of you ordering the tributes of when they die in the first hunger game film
For the name of the book
Songbirds= mockingjay= katniss
Snakes= president snow
And ballad can sometimes mean romantic song so I think you’re right to do with the prediction of president snow falling for a Ancestor of katniss
It’s SO good. I’m reading it right NOW and LOVING it!!!!!!!!!
This won’t be Mags’s Games, as she won the 11th Games and these are the 10th Games
Because Collins helped write the movies, we can assume this is a trait he has in the books too, but he never voices it to Katniss
Story Diver Ahhh cool!
If this book is all fan service I’ll cry
A lot of people will be very disappointed!
What is all fan servic?
I just started reading part 2. I'm enjoying it.
It'd be cool if the girl that snow loves had the mocking jay pin and at the last scene she pawns it then the last scene can go to katniss picking it up
Remember that in the books, the pin isn't from a market, Katniss's friend Madge gives it to her
the way you just Say his ridiculous name without any trouble... i am so impressed
You don’t see the amount of outtakes I edit out where I don’t manage to say his name 😂
I'm so excited for the Movie that’s coming!! I really wonder who is going to play young President Snow. Any guesses/wishes?
We don't know if there will be a movie for sure yet, it depends on how well the book does
Story Diver really? I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Lionsgate already bought the rights to make a movie🤔 Even if it’s not confirmed yet I really doubt that there won’t be a movie one day btw love your videos!!❤️❤️
Mona Emson lionsgate do have the rights, but that doesn’t mean there will be a film. They have to wait to see if it would be worthwhile financially first
Story Diver ohhh, got it!😊
Another way that Snow changes from good to evil is by the District 12 girl possibly faking love/feelings for Snow. This will cause Snow to believe that if he helps her win, they will be together ... however, (when she wins, IF she wins (if she is truly the 10th Hunger Games Victor)) he is betrayed in the end by her. Explaining why he doesn't like District 12 and why he abuses his power against many of his opponents (whoever he sees as an enemy that could effect his power) LOVE is dangerous/abusive
Despite this having some sense of giving what the readers want ... we can always be surprised by unexpected twist
That's a good point!
Omg I had no idea about this book!!! Omg omg I’m so excited I’m such a huge hunger games fan
What would've happened to a tribute that left their pedestal early? (75th edition of thg)
They likely would have been executed somehow, it’s possible the water was electrified during the countdown for example
@@StoryDiver thank you
for responding!
Just started it. Really good
Sadly in another hunger games book (different author. Basically many authors were allowed to write about a different game) and its shown that the disrict 12 victor was male. I suspect a more realistic idea is that Snow and the female tribute fall inlove but she dies and he becomes bitter.
If the book wasn't written by Collins it isn't considered canon, so we have to wait and see how this new story pans out
Can u do video about reaping of 10th hunger games?
Griffin is a fan made character, none of his Games is canon it’s fanfiction
i would love a video of just all of the hunger games 1-75 because why not
If you're asking me to make a video, I can't unfortunately. There's nothing for us to base a theory on for all these previous Games
Story Diver yeah I wish there was some theories 😫
The "fact:" about Mags is not canonical unfortunately
my theory is that the first chapter will be written in 3rd person p.o.v. because they hadn't introduced us to the protagonist yet (d 12 girl) and then when we meet her (cut to district 12) it will be told from her perspective.
District 11 kids are involved very young in their industry, its hard manual labor intensive work. They're probably build pretty hardy.
Hey I know how EVERYBODY is upset that President Snow but AT LEAST it's something. Would you rather Suzanne had just stopped writing after mockingjay?
Personally, yes
Wouldn't it be canary winters? She was the only other woman to win from district 12
That’s not canon, that’s from fanfiction. We don’t know who the other victor from 12 is
Would you please do a video about why we didn't see Snow's family at his execution?
They were likely imprisoned
Casca was also the name of a Roman...who fought in a civil war in Rome...so I bet the Dean is a civil war veteran? Might have lost friends and family in the war and had a bone to pick with the districts? Or he could just be a professor that studied ancient history lol and I cannot wait to see this old arena! I wish Snow would have gotten a tribute from 1,2,or 4... and the district 12 first victor killed his tribute he was trying to help win and thus he didn’t get his scholarship...that would have been a great reason he hates district 12!
I do mention it's possible the Dean was in the war, so I think you're right!
We learn in the books they were all executed by the Capitol
Story Diver thank you! That should’ve been included in the movies. That would’ve been a turning point to watch while katniss says “if we burn, you burn with us”
I find it interesting that Snow ❄️ never lied to Katniss
I'm definitely going to get this book!
Wait, what if the district 12 girl wins the hunger games and they do end up together and she is the grandmother to snow’s granddaughter? (Just a thought and I don’t think I worded it well -.-)
It's possible!
What if the female tribute isn’t related to Katniss but Madge
It’s possible!
Is Madge the person that gave Katniss the mockingjay pin? Maybe it was her pin originally?
That's cool that means that Mags won one of the first arenas where they had to survive the elements over just the fighting tributes. Edit: I'm hoping for the love story theory, because that would explain his detrimental and excessive obsession with Katniss/The Mockingjay. It almost seemed like he was too concerned with the teenage girl from D12 rather than the war at hand in the original trilogy.
Katniss represented the rebellion, he knew getting rid of her would help stop the war
Oh my god I am so excited I want to cry
I've read the book already, and let me tell you, you got a lot right. No spoilers, though :)
What happens if Snow made the old District 12 Win not as known because he won instead of her? So Snow made him stay at home.
I personally hope the book focuses on other districts such as 6, 8, 9, or 10. I believe the books and the movies don’t really mention those districts enough. I would love to see the difference between 12 and 6 for example so we can get a good comparison of the way they live and work.
That would be a nice change!
Example:
How you would deal with the bloodbath?
That fact about Mags isn’t canon (not in the books or the movies) so it seems unlikely to be true
@@StoryDiver yeah im not sure if there is at least a clue in the books or movies
Stardust not that I have ever seen, but I have seen this posted in fanfiction a lot, which may be how you saw it
There’s no mention of that in the book.
I feel like assuming the district 12 tribute is related to Katniss is a huge leap like theres no reason to expect that to be the case.
There is unfortunately, as Collins has already linked multiple characters that have no reason to be related other than fan service. And this would be the ultimate piece of fan service
I'm pretty sure the first district 12 winner won the 2nd annual hunger games
Good vid love the hunger games
Thank you!
P.S. sorry for the run on
That makes sense! I like when things click too, but not when it’s overly obvious
I would like this as well. It would be so interesting and give the original series more depth. But also if something like this were to happen Katniss would have probably found out about it somehow, especially if she won the games as she would have probably mentored Haymitch. But it isn't certain.
Do you reckon the 10th hunger games will be featured in the book or movie? Like the fighting and the D2 boy Griffin Naysmith winning?
Griffin is a character from fanfiction, so no, we won't see him. We will likely see a lot of the 10th Games in the book though
@@StoryDiver oh I didn't know that. What district you think will win?
Caleb Texas i don’t know honestly. I said in the video that it’s possible 12 will win, but only Collins knows for sure 😉
@@StoryDiver this is really awesome that you reply!
Greasy Sae is not the previous victor. That victor died. Plus, in the books, Madge gives Katniss the pin, not Greasey Sae
