MOUNT KUWAI - Ride and Hike 2024

3 of us rode to Telok Serabang from Sematan Kopitiam (the place to be) and join a few others at the Mount Kuwai hiking trail. It was a hot day to start with and it was certainly not easy to ride but we had some assistance.
The hike up to Mount Kuwai was a fun one, being a very well structured trail and I find it a very clean and easy path to hike. Great view of Telok Melano from the top and we’ve been told that some had done paragliding from the top. It’s of course much lower compared to the likes of Kundasang/Kokol Hill. We went down after spending some time at the peak and we had a short walk around the inner cemented trails. We visited the Retreat Mount Kuwai, a resort-like place with 8 rooms for stay. It has BBQ pit and also stay with inclusive breakfast. Dinner can also be arranged but must be pre-booked. I think that this place could potentially be an interesting place to hang out once they sort out more in-house activities. Perhaps they could learn from Batang Ai Resort (as it’s also a very remote kind of place). Interesting to note that they do have plans for sea chalets as well? We shall see.
After the hike, we thought that it’s best to return to Sematan with Hilux. It’s not too wise to cycle back in that sort of heat. Dropped by a place to get fresh squid and headed back to Sematan Kopitiam for a 5 star lunch. Amazing day!
