  • Adolf Hitler, dictator of Nazi Germany, was also a painter. He produced hundreds of works when he tried to sell his paintings and postcards to earn a living during his Vienna years (1908-1913) but had little commercial success. A number of his paintings were recovered after the Second World War and have been sold at auction for tens of thousands of dollars. Others were seized by the United States Army and are still in U.S. government possession.
Hitler's style was very stilted when representing architecture in his paintings. Instead of progressing, his works copied from nineteenth century and other artists. He claimed to be the founder of many artistic movements but drew primarily from Greco Roman classicism, the Italian Renaissance, and Neoclassicism. He called Rudolf von Alt his greatest teacher.

He should have accepted in art school. Would have saved us a lot of trouble.

As an artist myself I have to say, some are real masterpieces. They are showing a great love for his country and a great sadness where it was destroyed by war.

He could have made a living as an illustrator for magazines and books.

Honestly, they aren't consistent. Some are really, really good, though.

I wish my watercolours were as good. Perhaps if I start a fascist political movement, my art will improve!

no no, you have to become decent watercolorist first. Then your fascist pollical movement will succeed. For a while anyhow.

He should have stuck with it, who cares what other people say. How many American art school graduates can do this well? Just saying he could have had a different legacy. War changes everyone involved. 😮

On the contrary, it's easier to hate than to love. Cos man has never really been taught how to love. So as to express his feelings and emotions Hilter decided to Paint inorder to express his love. Even a Lion and wildess animal can be tamed through love. But, with man I have my doubts. 😅. Four legs good, two legs bad. 😂😅😮😢...?

Do what I can. Hitlers work while being technically proficient exhibits a profound lack of emotion which I think is a telltale sign of being a sociopath which is what he was and more. While many artists are not the nicest human being showing the work of a mass murderer is an injustice to the 12 million innocent people that fell under his reign of death. Have a day.@@BasementEngineer

I have to wonder why he is always referred to as a failed artist. He made art. I can't say I would buy what I have seen, but it is by no means bad. It is realistic and naturalistic, I guess. My sister dropped out of art school. She was told her art wasn't abstract enough.

What could have been? He could have been only like other Artists. Doing art and on occasion with friends mumbling some racist views.

or he killed the people that painted these and said he did...we will never know. You can't lead a mass murder campaign and get a reputation as someone who creates beautiful images that will endure the test of time! You sound like you love the man.

He wasn't killing anybody when he painted those, he wasn't even in the army when he did most of them, so yes we do know. And regardless of what he did later, if his paintings are good, and they are, what harm in saying so? He would deserve that reputation.

Evil people can have talent for something beyond mass murder lol and it doesn't lighten their atrocities at all.

Yes, you can. Sadly. Human being is contradictory. Evil and good coexist in every person and it shows up when the right opportunity comes. It's the Jekyll-and-Hyde dualism.
There are plenty of examples: Caravaggio was a genius as a painter and he was a thief and a murderer; Picasso innovated art and he was despicable in his relationships; Kant was a great philosopher, he wrote deeply about Moral and his habits and life were disgusting; Heidegger was a wonderful philosopher, had a jewish lover (his student, Hannah Arendt) and he became a nazi who expelled and denounced his jewish colleagues and students; Jews were victims of expulsion from their homes and of an attempt of genocide by the nazis, they claim from it loudly, asked and got (they are still getting) billions of compensation and then they did the same to the Palestinians (the work is still in progress...)

Who is drawing German cross on British looking tank 7:02 ? I think he knew that this type can win the war 😂.
Other than this, some of his watercolour works were Ok, 4:49 is surprisingly eye- catching. 0:24 is disturbing and unique.
At some point one can ask: who is your inspiration? Remember, this video cannot be unseen 😂

You don't make history better by erasing the merits of evil men. You just make the future worse.
