    Loooong comment, just wanted to share.
    You remind me so much of my uncle. Such a legit ENTP but he was too far down the rabbit hole, so to speak. He wasn't a very likable guy, probably because of a very weak Fe. Always up for argument and confrontation, he was normally the kind of person who would dare say "Your argument is like this, and so your logic is flawed. Therefore I conclude you are either a stupid or a hack." to someone of authority. Super vocal, when someone or something irritates him, you will know it. He also knew a lot about people's motivations and interests that he can read people easily. Problem with it is that, when someone tries to manipulates him or us in anyway, he would call out on it in front of the person. When grandma and my mom reprimand him he will always say, "Well, it's the truth. Can you say otherwise?" Aside from being the family that doesn't care about material things, I think he is the reason that made us slightly alienated from the community. They would compliment us with how intelligent we are (my uncle is our mentor and has established his intelligence by his arguments, my brother and I excelled academically, my mother as a professional accountant would always be asked for advice), but they didn't include us with the... more social part of the community? We didn't have friends there. They would always joke about not arguing with us because of my uncle, they would even force their kids to study by saying "do you want him (my uncle) to teach you instead!"
    What's sad about it is that he became a caricature. He was an alcoholic, never finished his studies, never held down a "legit" job. So despite being great in chess, being very knowledgeable in a lot of topics, great in logic and arguments, he was just considered as smart but not enough to be accepted as a part of the community. My mom would always tell me that she always considers my uncle to be the smartest among them. My uncle lived with us, didn't earn a living (until my mom made him start a small shop which he excelled in BUT got irritated of eventually), would die without the support from my mother. At one point our house was swarmed with chess athletes and enthusiasts, trying to beat him with chess for months and years. One day he just snapped and exclaimed "You are all stupid, I cannot learn anything from you all! Now scoot!". Everyone laughed about the situation, "typical Uncle, another fit of rage again!". But my uncle's drive for improving was never satiated, and he never touched a chess piece ever again.
    He was always labelled as THE problem, but after thinking about it maybe it was everyone's shortcomings that led him to that path. He was always given shit for his messiness and not being able to take care of himself health-wise (low Si), being so honest and confrontational (low Fe), but when people don't really care much about his strong Ne and Ti because he has no credentials. He also didn't get along well with my brother which I suspect is an ENFP. I don't know if you have problems with ENFPs but my brother would always nitpick his facts because they are slightly off (like 900 =/= 850), then would shut him up when he's clearly just Ne-Ti-ing. My brother would say, "Well this is not even possible to begin with because etc etc". I think that's the reason why I was close to him way more than he is to my brother, because my brother doesn't respect his opinions because he has no credentials and figures to show, and so he's basically just a crazy man in his opinion.
    Too bad he has been dead for years now, so nothing left to save. If only I knew MBTI stuff back then, I might have discussed this with him.
    Anyway, it's really great that your problems have eased out over the years. Good thing that you stopped being an alcoholic too. It's just sad when great people just don't get to their potential. I am currently battling with a lot of stuff too regarding authority and control, but I am trying to work my way around it. I can really empathize. Seems like xNTPs really have a hard time with this. Happy that you have found great avenue to bring out your skills in debating and talking about concepts by putting up this channel and being a debating coach.

    I laughed hard at the "Why the fuck did you do that?!" Because I can't tell you how many times I say this to myself.
    The only difference I have from a typical ENTP is that I dwell in the past all the time. Half the time I don't care about the future. I base my experiences from my past; what worked, what didn't, what not to do so I don't fuck up again.
    Loved the video. Hope to see more!

      @Talkingwithfamouspeople  9 лет назад

      Yes, you are right. I misspoke. Thanks for the heads up. Also, I've somewhat changed how I think about it, so I don't necessarily disavow that claim. See I think Si is prioritizing use of Ti to execute ordering of "time objects," or sets of meaning that relate to matters of organization. I think that Intuition is actually our judging function - our only judging function - and that thinking and feeling are execution and justification function (not necessarily respectively), while sensing is actually our "experiencing" function. I'm making a video on this right now, to explain the model as I now understand it.

    The part about remembering the past really resonated with me. Sometimes I feel like the day to day mundaneness of life gets in the way of my thoughts. Like I just stumble through life with my head in the clouds constantly day dreaming about all the complexities world around me. This is why I think I'm ditsy and forgetful. My personal past is foggy and hard to remember; however, if you want to talk about wwll and the effects it has had on modern life then I'm your guy.

You may be the quickest and wittiest person in the room but not the smartest but right up there. And yes, you talk fast with big words, met a few of you before and fun to talk to and bounce ideas off of. And it's true, we are the best, and yeah we are pretty cocky about it😁 Also I was going crazy when you were like "God dammit this isn't gonna be under 10 minutes" and then went on a tangent about how you were going too long which then lead to another tangent cuz I make videos where I talk about things just to stay sharp every now a and then and I literally do the exact same thing every time

      Talking with Famous People
      Yeeees, extremes comprise us, that is so true. My local INFJ is constantly getting exasperated and asking me, "WHYYYYY do you always have to be so EXTREEEEEEME???"
      Uhm... because if I'm not being extreme I've ceased to exist?
      And I don't even think I'm being extreme - as in, I'm not doing it on purpose or looking for ways to be special or something. But other people's reactions show me that they consistently think that I *am* extreme, and in some cases that I *am* just "trying to be different".
      Anyway. Whatever.

    If a man has proven himself, words should be harmless to him. If he has not, he has bigger problems than words.

    • @Talkingwithfamouspeople
      @Talkingwithfamouspeople  9 лет назад +1

      +UDT116 That's an interesting first sentence. It's really got me thinking. The basic mechanism of it is right. One's pain is mostly one's own insecurities. I'd like to believe myself fairly liberated from arbitrary limitations, but words definitely harm me sometimes. I think I manage to avoid internalizing others dismissals in general; also, my susceptibility goes up and down with how hungry and tired I am. It feels like we are only operating on all cylinders at best for 50% of the day. Thanks for the comment, and for watching!

    • @UDT116
      @UDT116 9 лет назад +1

      +Talking with Famous People All that matters is how you see yourself.
      In one of your videos, you've touched on the fact that being "smart" is just basically what the majority of people think of you, not the reality of it. I think it's interesting how you can live in your own little niche of "reality", and for the most part function fine.

    • @Talkingwithfamouspeople
      @Talkingwithfamouspeople  9 лет назад

      +UDT116 Well I guess it's a matter of one's currency. If a person thinks that being smart is important, then there is some reason why that is so. I'm an extroverted feeler, so I care about the feelings of others. That's my primary "currency." It's part of what makes an ENTP so weird. We are highly rational people-pleasers. Our whole existence is an oxymoron. But for someone who gets their currency in "solvency," defining intelligence according to the subjective and squishy standard of "popular vote," seems insane. An INTP, for example, can't conceive of defining anything that way. Even though ENTP has the same four function/orientation pairs as INTP, ENTP leads with LET'S PLAY AROUND! and INTP leads with WE DO THIS FOR A REASON!

    • @UDT116
      @UDT116 9 лет назад +1

      +Talking with Famous People I feel that my "currency" is to contribute an original idea out into the world, and let the pieces fall where they may. But I'd like to hear your views on morality.
      In specific do you believe there is such thing as right or wrong?

    • @Talkingwithfamouspeople
      @Talkingwithfamouspeople  9 лет назад

      +UDT116 Absolutely. The thing is, when we ask that kind of question, we're imagining that for something to be real or significant, it has to stay put. I wholly believe in moral prohibitions, and even - for myself only - some moral obligations not stemming from contract. But it's not a closed system and it never will be. Just because moral truths are absolute doesn't mean they are mechanical. And although every static rendering of those moral truths into language will necessarily be inadequate to contain the fluid nature of ethics, we nevertheless are capable of acting - in fact we unavoidably must act - in a moral dimension. One needn't conclude a final decider of truth in the matter to embrace the notion of ethical treatment of other agents as implicit to human experience.

    I think a true healthy entp knows when, who, how, to pick fights through the very quick computation or whether it is worth it and what is the gain from taking on an argument.
    And regarding ‘rules’. ‘Rules’ are good. It is with ‘rules’ that bind other people to predictable and limited possibilities that you can bend some, and give you an advantage.

    "Why did I start shit again?" I always ask this question! It never fails. I am not as bad as I was in my younger years, but every now and then, I do. One time, this close INTP friend was not happy with something I said, and I felt horrible, so I sent him a very long voicemail apologizing. He just messaged me back saying, "Oh, I know you didn't mean it. I am not mad or anything. :)" Then I get all confused and ask myself why isn't he angry if I said something bad. It can be maddening.

    Haha, im going to show this to my ENTP friend who is just getting into MBTI and enjoys me talking about cognitive functions and what not. I'm sure he will relate a lot and it is true you can be very scattered and all over the place but that is what I as an INTJ like about you ENTPS: You are always up to something, and sometimes up to no good so it is great fun being around you, taking the back seat and seeing this unfold.
    One part where you mention that you are not preperation oriented is true and can be a pain in the ass! Just today he (the ENTP Friend) calls me up and asks what he should bring to our hiking trip; Two days in advance but he's known this for months! :P
    Eric (or other ENTPS feel free to add), any concrete tips to help my ENTP Friend to be less critical of himself for being so messy and disorganized? Maybe I can help him in some small way cause I have (Te) as my second function, all that energy expendure on something I view as not so important to focus on.

      Thanks Leah! My first instinct is to joke about pulling off my fake self-awareness so effectively. But, for me, it's my history with substance abuse that made me be more honest with myself. I had to, to kick the addictions. Unfortunately, I suspect the more difficult parts of being me will largely persist regardless of my awareness. Self-development processes inform my self-concept, but I'm kind the antimatter of "mindful," so awareness only seems to help me after the fact! You and I are probably stone cold similar, and that's fun. I can do just about anything.
    Couple of things:
    1. We trust our intuition absolutely because it is so damned spot on. When we get under heavy stress, our Ne abandons Ti for answers, and starts looking around for some other well to draw from...Oh shit, here comes Fe with some dumbshit answers. Nononono, anything Fe tells you to do is bullshit. But it comes wrapped and stamped by Ne as "accurate and credible", so out it pops, and lands like a placenta on a marble floor.
    2. We like the idea (and the ideas) of people, but not the actual people themselves, at least not in the classical sense. For instance, I do not want to know about your kids, or what kind of dog you have, or if you bought new shoes...I have no idea what I wore yesterday, and I don't care what you wore. But if you have something interesting to say, or if you have something mostly interesting to say, and even if you are wildly better at what you do than us, then I want to get to know you and learn what you know. If you are a vacant brained bovine, then I really don't care. But it is true, I gravitate toward people who are interesting, but often I completely omit the squishy details of their lives, because I just don't care about that. It makes us seem very cold.
    3. We like autonomy. Give me something to do, and we'll get it done...our way. If you want to do it, you do it and give us something else to do...our way. Don't ask me to do something, and tell me how to do it. I simply won't do it at all.
    4. We're terrible at maintaining relationships. I marvel at people who call their friends every so often...Not me, I am busy doing other things, don't think about all of those other people, or really any memories of the past. As you said, I am very much in the future, and very much about concepts, and what things could be with a little work.
    5. We are the people of extremes. Like a lightswitch, we either don't care at all in the slightest, or we are fantastically engrossed to the point that we forget to eat. No middle ground. It is like that with everything. I either love it, or I don't care.
    Anyway, my thoughts. Thanks for the video, dude. I was looking around your shop, and wold love to explore and come up with cool stuff to do.
    Cheers

    Hey, nice vid.Some good deviations and apologies there ;) I do feel as if a lot of the lingo used in describing the functions comes from the more stereotypical descriptions (which of course do not have to be incorrect, they exist for a reason). Which might only irk me because I sometimes have the feeling they apply more on male than female entp's (societal female expectations pushing Fe development and all that), thus are not that recognisable to me. Partially ofcourse :) a lot I do recognise. I particularly like the kicking yourself for randomly starting up "debates that aren't actually worth it" BUT I do think that we often are accused of "starting a debate" while actually just asking questions that are so direct and to the point that other people feel attacked because of their relation to the subject.Hence, they are more sensitive then we would logically predict.This combined with us just blurting out our questions makes for a bad mix :D
    I also like very much the fact that you make up words by adding -y or -ize :D I do that constantly, be it in english or in dutch.Most people find that peculiar, but funny :) We get away with a lot of crap we pull because of our inherent sense of humour, and not taking ourself (or a lot of things for that matter) too seriously.
    Curious, what's the site you are referring to for the shadow functions? It's one of the theories I still need to study. It does remind me a bit of the socionics view , I have yet to find a good decent ILE explanation on youtube.Have you read that description? I think it correlates very strong with being an MBTI ENTP.
    Final comment because I am blabbing the night away -> I agree with reading up on the weak/bad points of being an entp , that's where the ability for growth lies.And oh I added you on skype finally, I got distracted so it took a month longer than expected, sorry about that.

      +dwelfusius I love ENTP comments. We want to make sure we cover everything, you know? I have started to just make response videos sometimes. Like this time. I definitely want to talk about the ILE understanding. I think this one I made is pretty good, but it's wrong in spots. I've got a new one in process now. I want to figure it out right. I want an airtight model.. Opps, the link: ruclips.net/video/tVhAXOluUuo/видео.html

    It's really cool that you're making money being a debate coach. Sounds like a dream come true. Just wondering, were you miserable before being a debate coach? I can't imagine ever being content with the 9-5 grind. It feels like an extension of school (which was pure torture).

    • @Talkingwithfamouspeople
      @Talkingwithfamouspeople  8 лет назад +1

      I guess the second one. It's an interesting question. I'm not sure the answer, because I'm not sure what distinction exactly is being made.

    • @soundvector1
      @soundvector1 8 лет назад

      Talking with Famous People The distinction is for how constrained you are getting your desires done. Do you depend on happiness, to achieve something, or do you live within happiness? Do you contemplate heavily to start something, if you know the answer already besides, the constant manifestation of external thoughts processes holding you down? :) That's basically what i mean will power to decide to differ. The constant pleasure of living life daily. Is it persistent, or more introvertly spent. Like off camera.

      I note, and consider noteworthy, your use of the modifier "just." Are you saying I speak only of Ti, or that matters attributed to other functions are mis-attributed, and ought to be attributed to Ti? Or are you expressing a need to dismiss/reduce for reasons unrelated to the media itself?

    Quick question, can't find the answer anywhere really and I'd like your insight.
    How would a typical ENTP fare as a translator? I'm in University trying to finish this damned translation degree I don't really care about (I could go and practice already but I need it to move into the country of my choice for work).
    I'll be done soon, but I'm wondering if this is indeed a good idea? In general translation makes me happy; always learning new things and discovering how people think.
    It is tedious and somewhat organizational work, however, and this is why I'd like to know what other ENTPs think about this.

      Talking with Famous People When was a child, wanted to break into asylum mental institutions to stroke crazy people, and be like it's okay. When i went to visit the hospital room, i said, will i be able to sleep with the pacients? To make the psychologist uncomfortable after he wanted to make me stay on the 4th floor. But i told him, it was a joke. lol :p I wanted to get checked for MRI. But creeped everyone out, for random desires. Lauffa social experiment channel, made me cringe, a man who screws his life, for RUclips. Being awkward like you said, with achieving one goal his whole life. To think, his awkwardness was backed up. Leaving him, to say random shiet at important conventions.

      +Henry James You know, I've concluded it needs to be about 2 minutes shorter. Having watched my own videos lots, and this one more than most, I've come to some conclusions. First, this is a little too long, but not by much. I always tend to think shorter is more respectful to the audience, and thus preferable. But I've come to view these things as distinct entities, and also come to understand that different viewers have very different habits and tastes. Naturally, we ENTPs are going to want stuff to move faster than do most viewers. This is my most successful (popular) video I have, though it comprises only 4% of my total watch time. Ultimately, I've concluded that it works well on a broad audience because of the pattern of change. It's change on two vectors: emotion and purpose, plotted on a roadmap determined by the 8 cog functions, which provides the intellectually engaging parts. Basically, Fe types feed off my broad emoting. Everyone can find something to relate to because I talk about challenges more than achievements or strengths. Not everyone is confident, but everyone relates to struggle. Lastly, it's smart enough to keep even ENTPs watching for 5 or 10 minutes. Welcome to TwFP. My name is Host Eric. Would you like to be on the show in one hour and five minutes?

    • @henryjames4658
      @henryjames4658 8 лет назад

      What do you mean be on the show? Interesting, but I would like to see a video about ENTPs for ENTPs (being the captive audience) which is what I first thought this video was. Perhaps that is your next challenge?
