I saw the actress that played Lillimae in a play in Detroit.....in the late 80's or early 90s': "DRIVING MISS DAISY" -- her performance was so good that someone in the audience was sobbing in the row behind me.
Julie Harris was an accomplished stage actress and made a name for herself in Hollywood long before Knots Landing. She made her Broadway debut at 19 years old in 1945 (which seems like an impossibly long time ago) and for a while held the record for most Tony Award wins. One of those wins was for a role she then played again in the film version (“Member of The Wedding” in 1952) which resulted in her receiving an Academy Award nomination. It’s very cool that you had the opportunity to see her on stage as her career is a much lauded one.
I noticed that, too. When she worked for Sid, she was late every morning. Yet later in the show, they suddenly turned into some super high powered businesswoman who suddenly knew how to set up dummy corporations, hide assets, read contractual fine print, and run major multi-national corporations. Not bad for a gal who came to town with no job and could only find a gig bookkeeping at her brother's auto repair shop. Why can't real life be that easy?
It could've very well occurred off-screen, but Lucy & Lillimae never crossed paths on the show (that is, if you discount the time when Valene showed up at Lillimae's country cabin when Lucy was a baby and Val was on the run from JR's "good ol' boys".
@@daviddemarco8327 That is kind of a shame because I can imagine Julie Harris and Charlene Tilton having good on-screen chemistry. I think there were some missed opportunities with the producers keeping Lucy so strictly tied to Dallas, or rather keeping her mostly away from Knots. I had read that one reason (other than the fact she was quite popular on Dallas) was they felt Lucy having a more frequent presence on Knots would age Val and Gary by constantly reminding the audience that the two characters had a grown child.
Not onscreen, but I assume she met her offscreen at some point. JR had clearly met Lillimae before when he showed up at Val’s house in season four, so I have to assume that Lucy met her as well.
"Well, score one for the blond kid." 🤣 You go, Lilimae!
Julie Harris was AMAZING 👏🏾 😍

lillie mae was never to be outwitted. RIP julie harris.
It took guts for the show to make Gary into such a cad for awhile....
