Abby, was a money hungry, conniving, schemer! But, she wasn't evil. I will never understand, why Gary Ewing, threw her away, like he did! Say, what you will, about Abby, but she was the brains, behind the throne, at Gary Ewing Enterprises!!! All, Gary ever did, was bankrupt the company! I, remember, on Dallas, JR, set Gary up, in a small subsidiary of Ewing Oil to operate! After, a week of high pressure, executive work, Gary ran away, from Dallas, with his tail, between his legs! If, he couldn't operate a small company, without succumbing too pressure, what made him think, he could manage a company, as large as Gary Ewing Enterprises!!!
ANTHONY CASHMERE I think evil is keeping a mother away from her babies. Setting in motion the kidnapping. Hiding that fact from the mother and the father, who didn’t even know he was the father, well he kind of did. I think that’s KINDA EVIL

It must have been something about Abby because Olivia didn't want to live with her. When it comes to a child not wanting to live with their flesh & blood you know there is a reason for it.
I would go to school on Thursdays on the 79th floor of the world trade center...after school i would go to my boyfriends house for dinner and his father & i would watch Knotts Landing together....i have 2 great memories...
@Bpnk5 - To the credit of a young, astute Tonya Crowe even before this when Gary and Abby have the kids at the beach house, Olivia overhears a conversation and Tonya Crowe was amazing, listening, processing, all with no words. You knew then Abby's actions were going to cause a rift between her and the ones she loved most, her children.
She's a great actress it's a close race between her and Joan Collins who was the best actress was Donna us still breathtakingly beautiful not to mention adorable, doesn't look a day over 25
Gary asked Abby for a divorce in Season seven, but they put it on hold because of the pollution at Empire Valley, also Gary running for senate, and not to mention Olivia's drug problems. They finalised their divorce in Season eight.
@LV Shidd It doesn’t make her a “terrific” mother, either. Her children were often caught up in or affected by their mother’s less-than-noble machinations, whether directly or indirectly. Yes she loved her kids and in her own way had her moments of being a good mother, but she was far from terrific. If this were real life (and I’m well aware it is not), her kids, when grown, would probably always view her with suspicion and keep her at arms length. It would probably affect their relationships with other people as well.
Great Scene . Itsgreat how knots put the emotion to the core of their plots like this one. there was no crazy plot just heart felt character emotion. Only this way could you actually feel for the character of Abby as she drove off despite her previous devious actions
No matter how unscrupulous Abby was, I really felt for her here, because she loves her kids. She proved that when her ex husband abducted them, and she worked tirelessly to get them back.
Wow, when your own daughter won't give you a kiss goodbye. Must be pretty bad. I don't remember what happened to cause Olivia not to want to live with her mom. I always watched Knots Landing and then they repeated the whole series on TNT during the day back in the 90's. I wish they would do it again. I want to watch it all over again.
Gary had just found out about Abby's secret company, Apaloon. He found out that she had hired Cathy Geary to play "Ciji" so that Gary would be distracted and wouldn't find out that she was using his money to develop Lotus Point as Apaloon. At this point in time, Gary only knew about Apaloon, but not about Abby's affiliation with Mark St. Claire and his group, Wolfbridge.
Abby should have gone home, and had a good cry after this. Her lover kicks her out of his house, and her own children don't even want to go away with her. Sad, but Danny fine acting on everyone's part.
I forget this episode what had Abby doen THIS time around? Also note shes driving same exact car Bobby Ewing had on Dallas although his was red (one Pam blew up in)
@@jenniferwellman5311 lets not forget Fallons aliean abduction on The Colbys in 1987 her car was a twin to JR Ewings on Dallas a silver Mercedes sedan!
I know this video has been up for quite a while but if anyone sees this who can remind me of what took place to make Gary see through Abby I'd sure appreciate it. I'd love to watch this whole series again
I haven't seen most of these episodes for decades, but if I recall correctly ... I wanna say Gary found out about the company Abby formed alongside Gary Ewing Enterprises through which she was making deals that would only benefit her (Lotus Pointe being one such deal). But Gary knew Abby was a shark in business, so that was really Abby being Abby. What he found repulsive, and so hard to forgive, was that Abby hired Cathy Geary - Ciji's dead ringer - to keep Gary occupied while she did what she wanted at the office. IIRC, this season was the Wolfbridge season, and by the beginning of next season, Gary and Abby had reconciled - and Val was about to "lose" her babies, leading to my favorite KL season finale cliffhanger, a tall feat considering I never thought they'd top this season's finale.
really good scene. this is the beginning of Olivia going against her mother and starting to have problems which we will see later on. I always liked Abby, so beautiful and full of life and drive. she would do many things a man could get away with, yet she is called a B*tch. somethings she went over the line, but she did love Gary (and his $) and her children.
But this storyline is not what led to Gary divorcing Abby. They were only separated for the rest of this season (4th?), then reconciled earlly season 5. I think they actually divorced around Season 6 or 7.
Gosh, that's so funny - Abby always hated the ranch anyway. I remember Gary saying something like "This place means to you what the ranch means to me", referring to her gorgeous office. Thanks for posting! I saw every episode. These ones were the best; I always felt the series declined in later years.
Messy messy stuff. Abby was a terrible Mother. Bonnie Franklin was presented as a failure mother in a bunch of episodes of One Day At A Time, too. The moms loved them but the tv daughters were so emotionally neglected and abused, it is just full time cringe. We have the benefit of hindsight to see how toxic 70’s and 80’s parenting was, and these shows were brave enough to go there back in the day.
I wish they would put this entire show on dvd!!!!!

Olivia was closer to Valene than she was to her own mother. Brian was pretty clueless, but Olivia saw her mother for what she was.
In real life cases like this happens when the kids turn to drugs for that matter the dysfunction of their parents.
