I was in my car, on my way to St Sebastien, driving along the coast road from St Jean de Luz when I saw this particular day. I stood on the cliff in awe. MASSIVE.
Has anyone noticed how this session at Belharra is honestly some of the biggest most perfect and glassy waves ever filmed??? Amazing .... I know its not as intense as say Jaws, Mavericks or Ghost trees. But for sheer size and surface conditions with the nice weather and a breath of offshore breeze. Pretty special
i have never heard of nor seen this wave ever before. It's something special!
these waves are just gentle giants.
This french spot is terrific, the best of Europe, incredible.
Travel to Biarritz, south western French Atlantic coast,it's paradise for us,surfers!
I'm not a surfer, just a big fan, but this is literally a mountain on this particular day. I can see how this would be easier but if you're caught in the middle, it looks like it would never let you up. Love the music with this too.
Wow... thats like riding a mountain or a landslide.. crazy big!
nice one bert! cenitz is a great break... i used to surf there a lot in '94-'98 when there was no lifeguards, no-one on the beach and the restaurant was a little shack. they had a bruce jones twin fin for sale there ages ago for 1000francs but when i went back with the money it was gone!
Oh HELL no! Volcom Brigade is rockin it though!! Much RESPECT!!
Great video, cool music, 5*****
id sit squat in the impact zone on this anyday verses a 10 foot day at pipeline.lol. This video starts off in a parking lot and ends up in one to.
respect total.
I agree with swimmer30. Those are huge waves, no problem, but there are a lot of things to consider when dealing with a judgment, the curve, the power, the "danger"...They deserve to be considered as "men with guts" like other big waves' surfer, and that is enough.
valito17 somestimes over 50ft ........ sweet video dude thanx for posting x)
=O!!
very beautiful
yes not very hollow just a not very steep wall of water big though, ive been here a few times and it is still scary
yeah dude i was watching these french guys like psh id love to see them go to chopes
Caliente! B.E.
Reminds me of when i take a wiz for some reason.
But those r some huge waves...
Its very Xtreme....
YOU GOTTA HAVE GUTS TO EVEN FILM THE SURFER cold hard
Yes, it was filmed from a boat, in a very large océan swell.
this french wave is scary dude.
1.55 is massive as is 4.31. It's not a long ride but there is a moment just as the wave breaks when the height is easily 50 feet.
This is one of the big 5 waves along with mavericks, jaws, cortes bank and cho-poo. Cho-poo is not as tall but easliy as heavy if not more so.
joooooderrr
vaya olas
yo m muero ai
lo mejor
BASQUE COUNTRY. WAVE COUNTRY.
I won't answer for swimmer. As for myself, french from Landes,I know those waves are really big, those riders are great,I saw them surfing close to me in Cenitz, or Guethary. I just tried to say that even if I know how yanks are,I'm not sure that those waves were "the biggest" if you consider other monsters like in the US,Hawai or New Zealand.Honestly, I don't know, but I hope those guys don't care.I don't like competitions anyway! Those guys deserve maximum respect, that's enough for me!
those are slow moving waves! huh! shoulders, looks cool!
Rival of Mavericks.
Crazy...
Okay...so what are these waves like during a storm ???? WOW
Interesting thought! The 1000 year 200 ft swell arrives...I get what yout thinking. - Depends how deep it falls after the reef mind...
oui au pays basque...........
wtf dude this video is awesome. i want to go to france now excellen waves kinda of weird shape for its size it doesnt have the pipe so it make the wave look way stronger to my point of view a place that i definely need to go before i die, good surfer, i didnt understnd a word they said but they know what they are doing;;;;
Gross vagues!!!
very funny thx man -_-'
whooooooooohohoooooooow!!!!!!!!
hoooly shit !! i´ve never seen waves like that !! i would be a great experience to surf like that though
This wave, Belharra, is in the French Basque Country.
Read the tittle dude. south west of france
I was there that day....wasnt as big as it looks, i owned it, be good to get that place with some real size.
oso video ona!!!!!!!
wao
seems to peak and then feather off slowly..but still a heavy wave
it is very big, but it seems very slow. I am very sure that this is a very deep area.
Merçi les gars,et qu'est ce que c'est massif,cachou,et c'est effectivement entre Stjean et hendaye...Adio
strange break. massive wave but doesnt tube. still, youd never catch me out there lol
swimmer&bert, don't know what you're on about. i've an apartment next to this break & seen it many times. some of the waves in the vid lack shape but there are some monsters on there! if they weren't big they wouldn't have got 2nd ahead of breaks like todos & we know all the surf industry & press are in the USA & they always support their own. these boys are unknown is the US & that didn't help the judges decision. swimmer, were you not out there because it was only a mushburger?
From Barry white, title unknown.
Zcultmanz is right, is does look soft, not too steep, but DAMN , that is a huge swell !
im stand french and they siad is not look easy like u tghink [nice]
see below
Where the white water is where its breaking is very bad. Tumble tumble in all that jumble.
wave has a ton of size but is tame, not a big wave spot not a big wave riders wave. this thing is like skateboarding your driveway.
music really fits the waves, so this is kind of a classic video. Mavericks is probably a better wave that this one, but the music does not quite match the quality of the wave.
Pretty weird wave. It's more like an avalanche. But it's much faster and more dangerous than it looks.
es muy grande la ola
pero se rompe lastimosamente
es muy muy lenta
tipico de francia
what music is this?? Stevie ray??
miga , I caught my first wave in 1973 seal beach california. ive surfed nearly every day since. lived all over cali, and spent 20 years in hawaii. Surfed nssa meets in school and many local meets since then. Just trust me kid..this wave is bs
VOLCON! aeuhauehuahe
what's the song called ?
Ce vas fair 13m je panse...
this peak looks rippable on a longboard lol
soooo thick
still a awsum wave tho lol
Euskadi Ta Askatasuna
I"d love to be able to Speak French, such a lovely sounding Language,I reckon you could pull Chicks easier by speaking French.
Wait! I dont understand!
Is that not like tsunami? Very big wave like tsunamis!
scary
no way,
france never barrels,
is a massive slow wave
much easier than jaws, todos, mav and ghost
Stevie Le Vaughn?
were the fuk is that i wanna go
i recon surfin here wouldnt be that dangerous, the waves dont barrel or close out they just spill into white wash when ure way ahead of it, its pretty much like skating down a hill of water pretty much, i recon 10ft bigger then itl start to barrel and be deadly!
cet des petitit
You must skateboard in your driveway a lot then. Those waves are big and not tame.
joderr :O :O :O :O :O
@oakleighbelgium mate there is no way thats teahupoo
3:07 :O
i feel like its a bit of a burger
they LOOK easy to surf
yer logic would denote that the reason it look so slow is because its so big??
and yer it is up there with the most hectic waves but if u ask me teahupoo takes the cake that shit is death
These waves are moving at over 40 mph...too fast to even paddle into. They are definitely not slow moving.
i prefer english but I'm french
Plenty of soul in my vid- please view/comment
It's a shame that a wave with a face that big just crumbles. If it bowed up at the last minute it would be nasty.
es facil hablar frente al ordenador, pero estoy seguro que se han de cagar en el wetsuit nada mas viendo la ola en la realidad ! saludos
cool. now go out and CHARGE BRAH!
rival? mavericks isnt even half this size haha
These guys don't look that fit!!?
show us your skills then
perhaps I need explain myself for your obvious need to correct me points to your incomprehension of either video or comment! The development is slow! You need knowledge and logic! for you will never find that these waves abrupt or unsuspecting! Huge, majestic and beautiful, yes! Unpredictable and aggressive! not!
I could paddle into that. Those waves are weak. Seriously.
nice footage, too bad you film so bad
nah joenormal. It aint so special. Bowling and watersliding is way better.
This is like surfing large wimpy san onofre lame...weak...you can duck dive that mush. typical france
