I was in my car, on my way to St Sebastien, driving along the coast road from St Jean de Luz when I saw this particular day. I stood on the cliff in awe. MASSIVE.

Has anyone noticed how this session at Belharra is honestly some of the biggest most perfect and glassy waves ever filmed??? Amazing .... I know its not as intense as say Jaws, Mavericks or Ghost trees. But for sheer size and surface conditions with the nice weather and a breath of offshore breeze. Pretty special

I'm not a surfer, just a big fan, but this is literally a mountain on this particular day. I can see how this would be easier but if you're caught in the middle, it looks like it would never let you up. Love the music with this too.

I agree with swimmer30. Those are huge waves, no problem, but there are a lot of things to consider when dealing with a judgment, the curve, the power, the "danger"...They deserve to be considered as "men with guts" like other big waves' surfer, and that is enough.

1.55 is massive as is 4.31. It's not a long ride but there is a moment just as the wave breaks when the height is easily 50 feet.
This is one of the big 5 waves along with mavericks, jaws, cortes bank and cho-poo. Cho-poo is not as tall but easliy as heavy if not more so.

I won't answer for swimmer. As for myself, french from Landes,I know those waves are really big, those riders are great,I saw them surfing close to me in Cenitz, or Guethary. I just tried to say that even if I know how yanks are,I'm not sure that those waves were "the biggest" if you consider other monsters like in the US,Hawai or New Zealand.Honestly, I don't know, but I hope those guys don't care.I don't like competitions anyway! Those guys deserve maximum respect, that's enough for me!

swimmer&bert, don't know what you're on about. i've an apartment next to this break & seen it many times. some of the waves in the vid lack shape but there are some monsters on there! if they weren't big they wouldn't have got 2nd ahead of breaks like todos & we know all the surf industry & press are in the USA & they always support their own. these boys are unknown is the US & that didn't help the judges decision. swimmer, were you not out there because it was only a mushburger?

music really fits the waves, so this is kind of a classic video. Mavericks is probably a better wave that this one, but the music does not quite match the quality of the wave.

i recon surfin here wouldnt be that dangerous, the waves dont barrel or close out they just spill into white wash when ure way ahead of it, its pretty much like skating down a hill of water pretty much, i recon 10ft bigger then itl start to barrel and be deadly!
