Broke my 4th metacarpal on my left hand which is my dominant hand. My doctor who is a hand specialist put me in a cast for a month. After a week, I told him that it was too tight and the fiberglass was digging the web on my middle finger. Told him that it is already causing me pain. He told me it was normal and just okay. Its been 2 weeks since I've had my cast off, and I could tell my hand got fckd up. All my fingers and my wrist (it also got bruised) are very stiff, quite painful... A nightmare. I guess that doctor was just trying to make a point that I should've agreed to a surgery and putting a plate on my fracture... But am getting a little movement already through the help this amazing channel so thank you very much, Michelle! 🙏☺️

I was in 4th grade and fell at the mall. It was a small fracture. The doctor in training put the cast to tight. My arm started swelling and swelling. They had to cut my left arm op in a snake pattern and let some air in! i had 6 operations and 100 stitches inside and out. I am now 36 almost still have the scar and where they had cut it it still feels numb on the scar. But its in good shape. Thank God and my family!

Thank you! Just broke my wrist two weeks ago and never thought of moving the elbow! Lol. We really get too little info from the ward on this. I am checking out your videos and doing the finger exercises as well, really helpful. I also found that massage really softens the joints and brings back circulation.

One of my doctors told me a great way to relieve the itch is to use a hand massager. like one with a ball on the end

Please tell me what to do for severe pins and needles that burn. My wrist was fractured 4 weeks ago and I’ve been able to move my cast down to free my hand crease and I’ve been doing the exercises which do help but I’m still getting the pins and needles pain!! Thanks so much for all your excellent videos!

I’m so distraught, I’ve tried everything but I assumed it was the cast causing the severe pins and needles & got it off Nov 1/21. Started Physio Nov 2 and although it’s not as bad it’s still very bad. Asked for appt to discuss this issue and the fact my wrist is crooked and was dumbfounded when he said “you never told me about the pins & needles and that “it doesn’t matter what my wrist looks like, if it functions “. So he gave me a cortisone shot and is going to order a test to test my nerves. I did cry at the appointment because I can’t prove I did tell him about my pins and needles pain and I feel like I’ve suffered severe pain needlessly and possibly done irreversible damage because he didn’t pay attention to my reports of my symptoms other than prescribe me Pregabalin

I have a splint and it goes up over my knuckles. And I can’t touch thumb to any finger . 🤔. It’s been on a week. It also goes up to bend of elbow so resting my hand on opposite shoulder is difficult. Do I ask my dr to change it ?

I broke my 5th metacarpal near the wrist, and the cast is up over half my fingers. Not sure if it's because my knuckles are bruised, but it feels like constant pressure there. 20 days left, we'll see what happens.

Hi could u please help me my ring and middle finger won’t fully extend and seem to be weak as well. I recently broke my radius bone in my arm and was put into a sling until I got surgery. My fingers didn’t have this problem before the surgery but I discovered this problem after getting my sling taken off. It’s been 3 weeks since my surgery and there is no progress my fingers will straiten in in all joints but the one on the knuckle it’s like it’s forced down. My pinky however seems to have trigger signs of trigger finger as it pops up and down when I move it. There also seems to be a pain in my wrist when I force my two fingers strait and bend my wrist upwards. Any idea what this might be?

Maam, What does it means if the fingers are like sleeping after the wrist fracture in which k wires were also used . Like if we don’t move our leg for 5 to 10 mins our legs sleep and the same thing happens to my left hands index finger . It doesn’t has a kind of sense . Could you please make a clear vdo on it

I fractured a bone in my left pinky finger,I Had a cast on for six weeks.I am having trouble moving my fingers they all are stiff . Your exercises have been very helpful and after one week my fingers are starting to move a little bit.. But my hand still feels like its in a cast and the back of my hand is swollen , The swelling has not gone down only when I first wake up in the morning. Can you make a video about how to get rid of swelling in your hands and which gloves are best for swelling in your hands im shopping at your store.

Hi. I got a new cast at 4 weeks in, bc my thumb was pinched and numb. My new cast is now too tight, too long and too close to all my fingers, knuckles. I’m swollen again, pinched, w slight overlapping. The styloid process is throbbing too. Its the weekend, drs office is closed. How can I help myself quickly relieve finger pain? I saw that cast shears might be able to cut off a little and allow some space. How? Would you make a RUclips video?

What is your opinion on removable splints and how soon after a fracture? I fractured my capitatescaphoid bones in my dominant hand and I work as a dental hygienist and absolutely love my job. The fractured occurred 10 days ago and the plaster cast is at bats of my fingers (above the distal Palmer flexor crease and 1/2 way up my thumb. I am moving my fingers as much as possible esp after watching most of your video but the knuckles are stiff. My first post emergency appt at the fracture clinic is in 2 days. I am so scared of another cast even fibreglass. I have a chiropractor friend who is urging me to insist being put into a removable splint even 11 days after injury. Mine is a minor simple break with the capitate bone dislocated but with traction it was put back.

ONLY your doctor should be making that decision based on your x-ray, healing, and if nothing has displaced. It's not just bone healing but there is likely ligament healing that needs to happen between those bones. I prefer removable splints for some conditions but there are cases when a cast is necessary.
