I don't think a lot of these evil kings realized that the true prophets had a "hot line" to God. They figured they were some kind of fortune teller a level above the soothsayers of the day. There are examples throughout the Old Testament where the king would punish the prophet for bringing bad tidings , not realizing that they were delivering the very message from God. Had the king realized what the prophets real commission from God was he would have asked for a healing like the king of Syria asked Elisha to do for Naaman. WE can never hide from God, nor can we treat Him like a genie out of a bottle waiting to grant our wishes. Sometimes even as Christians we lean in that direction at times.
