My husband and I met you in Whitehorse whilst you were waiting for a haircut , you’re a fascinating guy and you have inspired me to buy a bicycle and get fit. ( Carolyn Stevens )
This is where I discovered you when you rode up while I was watching girl in the woods! I've binged watched you from the beginning! I admire you and all your adventure.
What a brilliant video. Your channel has inspired me to get into bike touring when I get home from school next year. I just did a backpacking trip over the last three days that made me even more inspired. This sort of adventure is what I long for. Thank you so much for the inspiration and curage to go out and start making adventures for myself.
I too found your channel through Brooke's random encounter with you. Brooke is great and I must say, Adam, I am loving your videos also. Keep up good spirits and ride on.
Hi Adam...I'm coming over from Brooke's channel(Girl in the Woods)love her! Good luck in your travels stay healthy and safe..I'll be watching your journey🙂
Oh boy you do love people, don't you? It's to true pleasure to watch you with a large smile on your face after the 2-hour conversation with Brooke. You are also a real source of positive inspiration. The farther you go, the wiser you get. And it's still long way to Argentina. Happy & Safe cycling!
That bit of footage of the Google maps of Alaska to South America Brought home to me the scope of what you are planning. Kudos to you. Keep up the good work
Great progress Adam. You are facing tough terrain thru the Mts. Wish there were unabreakable bike tires for you. You are doing great. I am one who came to your channel via Brooke Whipple when you met her on the road. 😀. I am rooting for you. Cycle on and enjoy the USA. I am on the east coast, but lived on West coast earlier in my life. Ta ta. 😺💞🎃
Adam, I really like your wit and directorial style. Thank you for giving detailed coverage of your experience with the broken spokes - valuable stuff for any touring cyclist. If the wheel is still a problem I can build you a new one and ship it to you. Your travels could be the ultimate test of my wheel building skills:) Thank you for delivering your adventure to my desktop!
Another belter Adam! Love seeing your adventures while I'm back in the UK working my 9-5, seriously tempting to sack it off and explore. Keep it going mate, you're killing it!
I’d hate to be the bad influence but we only get one crack at life mate. Many people regret the things they don’t do. Not many regret doing an adventure like this.
Great Deal Adam. Thanks for sharing all you share. Another subscriber that noticed you on Brooke's "Girl in the Woods". She is great, isn't she? Safe Cycling Brother🚵🏻♂️, God Bless🙏🏻🚴🏻♂️🦋
Cool video, thanks for filming, Adam! It's so nice to see you happy when you were approaching Fairbanks! Yeah! 😁😎🤓 I'm a subsciber who hopped to your channel when Brooke's video was on youtube. Glad you met her. Happy travels, no flat tires for the next 1250km and: be safe!
I know you have your wheels sorted out now, and you're rockin' Sun Rhyno Lite rims. And you probably get tons of (probably unnecessary or unwanted) gear and tool recommendations. 😁 But I thought I'd toss one more your way, just in case. I've found this little gizmo to be very helpful. As you know, I'm sure, the regular rear cassette removal tools are big and heavy. They're too heavy for most people to want to carry with them on a bike tour. So replacing broken spokes on the drive side of the rear wheel is impossible until you get to a bike shop. But this Stein "Mini Cassette Lockring Driver" is small and light, and it uses the force of your pedals to remove the rear cassette (so you don't need a chain whip). Once you get your head wrapped around the logic of how it functions, it works great. I've used mine on several occasions, and I was very glad to have it. Here's the link: www.steintool.com/portfolio-items/mini-cassette-lockring-driver/
Amazing video. Waiting for your next video!!!!!! And the Dalton highway was spectacular. Full of challenges and so beautiful. It surely is a dream. Stay fit and travel. :)
First time I have followed you. Came over to your You Tube Channel after seeing you on Brooke Whipple Channel ( Girl in the Woods). Good luck on your adventure, will be following!
HEY ADAM. I want to share one of my best bike hacks with you. That spoke breaking thing weighed on my mind every time I toured. I thought long and hard about it and came up with a great solution in my dreams...really. No one else ever seems impressed or interested for some reason. To me, it was finding the holy grail of touring. The last bit of touring maintenance hell that needed to be overcome. I already carry a rag,and a small crescent wrench for other odd jobs. I found by only adding a cassette ring remover, combining it with the crescent wrench, and holding the cassette in place with the rag wrapped around it, I had no problem turning it right off. Of course, putting it back on is the easy part. New spoke, using the rim brakes for truing, and voila. All I have to do is carry a few extra spokes and no more spoke worries. I even carry different sized spokes to help others on the road. Hope it helps you out the next time you are stranded.
I felt for you struggling with the bike issues & also having the mental strength to continue. You could have easily got a lift to the next town… RESPECT Something that is such a cool aspect journey is the sheer delight of basic living, a burger, ice-cream - a full belly & the thought you would get some interaction with civilisation.
I'm an introvert bordering on a recluse. I drove solo from Chicago to Deadhorse in a sedan to fulfill a childhood dream of mine. After 10 days of driving and talking to no one but myself......by the time I got to Coldfoot, I approached some truckers on the patio and asked, "Can I just, can I just talk with you guys for awhile?"
Cool stuff Adam! Found your channel during the weekend, and I absolutely loving it. Basically there is two channels I am really fascinated with, your's and "The Sailing Frenchman". Stay safe.🤛
another epic chapter in this story, loved the music to your wilderness part, and those darn spokes again , and hope you did get bomb proof wheels for next instalment .....enjoy
You've honestly made me want to try my hands at a long distance cycle adventure. Not has epic as your one, but a start is still a start. Awesome video mate. Sending ya a virtual beer. 🍻
This episode was a great inspiration for me, so thank you. Namely your problems with spokes and casette -- and I found a hack for it. Buy a lockring tool (btw. I just learned it is at the same time centerlock tool, too late for me, because I use standard 6 bolts system), drill a hole at the side so you could fit in screwdriver inside from your multitool -- it will serve as a lever. And presto, you can remove cassette on the go, the only requirement is you lock it with the same tool, because if you put much more force at home/shop, you won't be able to unscrew the lock. End of the hack (not tested yet).
Found your channel yesterday and I really like it. So I wish you luck on your tour from Germany... Ohh and of courses no flat tires and not that much broken stuff on your bike.
I don't know long trip like that without spokes, bit silly. I carry metal and kevlar spokes for all my trips, be that 50km or 5000km. The kevlar are for quick repairs on the road, and fix them properly when I rest for the day. But in 30,000km only one broken and that was on a beater bike, whilst waiting for my touring bike to have a new rear wheel built.
I had spare spokes but had already used them. Terrain, weight carried and the quality of the wheel build is what matters when it comes to spokes breaking. Probably a bit of luck in there too.
Hey Adam a chap called Simon Bennett is currently going around the world, does not expire, you have probably met him along your travels, he had a tricky time coming out of the tunnel at the artic circle as the weather was so bad, he actually took shelter in a little toilet just past the tunnel for the night lol.. where have you got to now on your venture?
Hey Jane, I’ve not come across Simon Bennett but it is a small world. I’m not sure if you mean the Arctic Circle in Alaska as there are no tunnels. I’m back in the UK now.
Any chance you haven't had any takers on the sticker design? I'd love to take a shot at designing one (professional designer/15+yrs) loving the footage!!!
Thank you for the wonderful offer. I’ve ended up using a photo I took of me cycling in Alaska for the sticker design. I’d always be open to ideas though.

@@AdamHugill That rear wheel looks like a 36 spoke rim... why are you breaking so many spokes? Another question is why aren't you using front panniers when you did in 2018. My bike handles better with weight on the front rather than the majority on the rear. Ride safe.
Brian Bassett I’m still carrying a fair amount of the weight up front in the dry bags and handlebar bag. The front panniers broke in Japan so I changed my set up to accommodate. The wheel was breaking as it was a cheap $5 wheel from China. Lasted a good 8000km though.

There's something special about being in the middle of no where riding your bike. As an introvert, I dont mind the solitude. 😁

May i suggest the purchase of a device called ‘next best thing 2’ ? That is a minimalistic cassette tool so you can take your cassette off underway.
