Heliconias do well in full sun, they grow like a weed

Good video, just fix your saw before you have an accident! A used bread knife from a second hand store can come in handy, as will a machete or a sharp square-nose shovel.

If they are in the ground do you have to dig the entire plant up to separate?

You should be able to dig around the plant about 6-8 inches and remove just the pup. A sharp spade should work just fine.

Just soak in water to loosen up dirt and separate roots…

You didn’t even plant it or show the result ! You just showed how to cut it up.

Because they are so easy to go, that once you separate them and place them in the ground, they grow.
