They look fantastic! Seeing how that stitch works down the outer sides of the jeans is so interesting. I can only imagine how good it feels to wear jeans that not only fit great but knowing that you made them yourself! It's so awesome! And adding your logo is the perfect touch!
I am going to try this for my daughter. She, too, doesn't have an "average" shape. I've done 3 t-shirts that fit her much better than store bought & look great so jeans are next! Thank you!
My current plan is to use 10 weight firehose grade cotton to make an incredibly tough pair of jeans. I know they will take forever to break in but im tired of my clothes tearing! P.s. i know i can buy firehose work pants but im not spending $90 when i can spend $50 on fabric and 1 month of time to gain a new skill.
I just bought my first sewing machine, a SINGER. I’m excited to get started on a new hobby and journey learning to sew and create my own clothing. Thanks for sharing , amazing work!
Indeed! So glad I watched this before I just dove in. I collect vintage levis 645, and 501s and 00s Abercrombie jeans. I bought an old 457 singer at a yard sale. My experience in this field is ironing my uniforms in the navy. So after shortening the length, taking in the rise and the last pair of cheap thrift jeans I took from a relaxed boot cut fit to a Robert Plant circa 1970s fit. Waiting for the needles and denim arrive to start making my 1st pair.. hopefully I can make the lowrise slim fit flared jeans that fit me and are not made for women ive always wanted
@@mikochild2 they fit perfectly. not to small not to big. that was my biggest fear, that I would make them to small in my effort to make them true vintage hip huggers. the stitching looks fantastic, well from the outside. lol turn them inside out and the stitches look... well they look sus af lol. other than that the denim I ordered is very heavy. I'm always careful not to over-launder my jeans. so I have this internal struggle between wanting to loosen them up and not wanting to wear out the denim haha
@@Dedhead6992 thank you for the update! I thought you might not notice or respond since it's been a year since you originally commented. I'm glad they came out mostly how you wanted. I haven't sewn anything in 30 years so I probably won't start with jeans. But I will work my way up to them. Wish me luck!
Wow, they look fabulous, I think you did a fantastic job on them, I have made a lot of clothes over the years myself including bridesmaid dresses etc but I wouldn't like to try jeans. Well done.
Really great work! I've made a bunch of backpacks, duffles, messenger bags, etc., but I still find the idea of making a pair of jeans really intimidating. Your approach makes me feel more confident that I should just give it a try! Thanks for sharing!
I was looking forward to this since you first mentioned sewing your own jeans! They turned out SUPER nice and I can't wait to get back to my sewing machine now!!😍(also....an overlock is long overdue on my list! Hopefully sometime!)
Well done! working on my first pair of pants right now, so this is pretty encouraging! Got some great softshell fabric, and translating the non-stretch pattern from muslin to a stretchy fabric will be an added challenge. But on the other hand side this is another learning opportunity ;)
Great video, and bonus points for the dog cameo at the beginning. Now I have to go lookup more information about the 'overlocker' (sp?) machine you used and how it works...
Im looking to get into sewing so I can make my own clothing, thanks so much this was pretty easy to follow, now just to work up the courage n time to do it lol
How great to be able to make your own jeans pattern. The flat felled seams usually go on the inside leg, because that is where all the friction from movement takes place. The outside seams are usually not flat felled.
Great video! Thank you! What do you think about the double needles for sewing the seams? Isn't it easier or you get a more consistent seam with a single needle? Thank you in advance for your response!
Great job - both in the sense that the result was awesome and the amount of work it took to get there! And as a bonus you now have lots of almost fitting pants for painting and other messy work. Because I guess you don't want to put to much patina on your new jeans?
@@CraftsWithEllen 😄 And then you make another pair, and another, and another... I wonder how long it will take you to make pair number ten compared with the first pair... 🤔
Hi Ellen, hope you are well. Super video and very interesting to see you tackle jeans-making. I think Smudo wants a pair too! Maybe you could do a video making dungarees sometime? Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the good work. 👍🖖😎🐶🦴
for the logo that you used, it would have shown more if you used white Thread. or you could have printed out the logo, traced around it on white fabric, then did an outer layer on Black fabric, then put the two pieces together. then stitched the two onto the jeans. that would have been epic. that way, it wouldn't begin to loose its likeness cause you used actual fabric to create the design and not just thread. good work.
Great tutorial, I want to learn to sew for this very reason, I have a pair of jeans that I love, but the company is out of business i believe, so i can't get a second pair :( Do you accept projects like this, for a charge of course?
They turned out so good! Learning some of these techniques by watching you has nudged me a little closer to attempting a set of coveralls. #smudobombed
Good job Ellen! I admire your resilience! Once I know how to make my own clothes, the shops ain't seeing my money! :)

ITS BLOWING MY MIND that this is even possible.... thank you so much for making this video!
I am not at this level yet, but will come back when I am ready
They look better than the other jeans. Impressive to say the least.
I am going to try this for my daughter. She, too, doesn't have an "average" shape. I've done 3 t-shirts that fit her much better than store bought & look great so jeans are next! Thank you!
That's great!!
They look great! Well worth all the effort
Ellen, you made the dang best jeans ever, salute to denim lover! Peace

Very nice! Thanks for taking the time and effort to share your journey with this project.

Well Done! Your hard work on the patter paid off. And you have enough room to account for shrinkage when you put them in a hot dryer.
Right, I totally did that on purpose and planned on leaving room for shrinking in the dryer 😋😅
i am absolutely blown away by this 🖤
❤❤❤
It's so beautiful, great job 👍
Girl!!! I feel you and thank you!!! So much of what I do is by trial and error! This video is so helpful...more then you will ever know!
So much effort but totally worth it, they look amazing. I guess washing it a bit hotter might fix the size issue.
Yeah, I'll give that a try! But for now I'm not washing them yet, so that I can get some nice fading in the fabric :)
Wow, they look fabulous, I think you did a fantastic job on them, I have made a lot of clothes over the years myself including bridesmaid dresses etc but I wouldn't like to try jeans. Well done.
I found them pretty intimidating too, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected!
Omg thank you so much!! I've been looking for a good jeans sewing tutorial for so long.. 💓
THANK YOU! This is a great tutorial, very informative. I'm not ready to make jeans yet but I am hoping within a year (or two)
I'm also super proud of you. You were very meticulous and i love that. Well done
Wow. What a great process. Five tries for fit is pretty good. They look fantastic.
Thanks so much Brian!

You can totally do it!
Wow. Great job! You make it look easy.
Hi, thank you very much for sharing! This really helps me understand the order that everything goes together in :)
I'm impressed. Nice work Ellen!!
Thank you my brother

hey ellen! BIG compliment. sooo great💪🍀 welcome to the club of jeans makers🤗
Thanks Lukas 👊
Is there a clubhouse?
Love the video. I want to try that someday on my favorite pants and jacket.
They look amazing Ellen, Great job!
Thanks Anna :)
Hi. You did a super fine job with those jeans! I am really impressed. That looked like a lot of hard work but fun as well. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing project. Well done! 👍👍👍
Beautiful project. You're brilliant, thanks for such gem of a video 🩷
All that hard work totally paid off! A good fitting pair of pants is so hard and you tackled it. And of course you explained it so perfectly ❤️
Thank you Patti ❤ You're definitely part of my inspiration!

Amazing video! I can already tell I’ll be coming back to this video as a reference when I’m making my own
Thank you. These things will come handy especially with prices going up on everything.

I was looking forward to this since you first mentioned sewing your own jeans! They turned out SUPER nice and I can't wait to get back to my sewing machine now!!😍(also....an overlock is long overdue on my list! Hopefully sometime!)
An overlocker is pure magic and wizardry 🧙♂️
Well done! working on my first pair of pants right now, so this is pretty encouraging! Got some great softshell fabric, and translating the non-stretch pattern from muslin to a stretchy fabric will be an added challenge. But on the other hand side this is another learning opportunity ;)
Ooh cool! Let me know how it goes!!
I like that pocket on the leg. Looks good!!
The jeans look great.
Great video, and bonus points for the dog cameo at the beginning. Now I have to go lookup more information about the 'overlocker' (sp?) machine you used and how it works...
The mechanism of an overlocker (or serger) is fascinating!! I spent quite some time cranking the handwheel to see how it actually works :)
They look fantastic, great job!
Thanks James. Your turn!! ;)
Amazing! you made it look soo easy lol. They came out great
so rad!! beautiful work!
thank ellen they look great, I'm taking on the challenge myself now, so needed a bit of courage ;-)
ok I probably wont be making a pair of jeansm this looks like a whole lot of work

Thank you Fred :)
Great video. Fantastic instructions. Jeans turned out fabulous looking. So much effort paid off. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Thanks so much!
Wow great unbelievable you have make it so easy fitting and length were perfect nice 👍 enjoy your life God bless you mem.
SMUDO!!! 😻😻😻
...also great jeans!
Excellent video, thanks for sharing
How great to be able to make your own jeans pattern. The flat felled seams usually go on the inside leg, because that is where all the friction from movement takes place. The outside seams are usually not flat felled.
I believe it was because cowboys (original jeans customers) rode horses and that caused wear to inside seams.
In a jeans factory you do first the inside seams then the outside
Your jeans are brilliant, and i love your dog
Bbb Rrrr that’s Smudo! Laura Kampf’s pup.
Yep, not my dog, but he's a cutie
Great video! You did a good job! Did you press your seams as you went?
Beautiful 💓 love your tutorials!
You did a great job. Keep it up
very nice! thanks for the tutorial!
Great video! Thank you! What do you think about the double needles for sewing the seams? Isn't it easier or you get a more consistent seam with a single needle? Thank you in advance for your response!
i love your sewing
They look great. Not sure I'm up to that challenge yet though.
One step at a time, but I'm sure you can get there if you want to :)
Really helpful. Thank you 🇬🇧
You did a great job!
Congratulations is a beautiful work.
Which machine you have used? Can i use for commercial purpose for ladies
i'm following your video step by step...very helpful thanks. I hope i can do as well as you did :)
You just went crazy 😂‼️
Those are awesome! Great job!
Thank you!
they look great
Can I ask what thread you used for you top stitching please. The jeans look A-MAZ-ING
Love it,love it, love it.
Hello Ellen! You are very skilled. How long does it take you to make jeans from start to finish?
You are amazing! Great job!! :)
What an accomplishment!! So good Ellen ❤️
while you watch this video in some workshop in vietnam or india 50 pairs of jeans were made.
amazing work
Great job - both in the sense that the result was awesome and the amount of work it took to get there!
And as a bonus you now have lots of almost fitting pants for painting and other messy work. Because I guess you don't want to put to much patina on your new jeans?
On the contrary, I want to wear them until they fall apart :D
@@CraftsWithEllen 😄 And then you make another pair, and another, and another...

I'm very tired of wearing clothes I have no personal connection to so I've begun making my own, it's not easy for a guy who can't sew. Thanks
Thanks for the inspiration 🙏
AWESOME JOB

Is it actually called grain direction or is that your woodworking leaking through?
Thanks!! It's actually called that, and it's quite a nice overlap I think :)
