    This thing costs 369.90 USD. Who is this for exactly?
    For a cheap PC you can get cheaper and more powerful PCs based on mobile Ryzen chips.
    For an ARM DIY board you can find 3 dozen different ARM boards for the fraction of the price.

  • @srvuk
    @srvuk Год назад +162

    $269.90 for the basic and $369.90 for the Pro. I would expect a whole lot more for these prices. I find the dock almost laughable. When you consider what Radxa and Orange Pi have done for lower cost, Khadas just seems out of touch.

    • @TBMartin
      @TBMartin Год назад +17

      The Orange Pi may look more attractive on the outside but we are talking about a Chinese company, who only really make these things for the hell of it. Official support after a few months is non existent too so I wouldn't knock Khadas for their prices when they do support their own products for a long time.

    • @quademasters249
      @quademasters249 Год назад +28

      Agreed. There's not $400 worth of product here. At that price, I'd rather have an Odroid H3+. Intel CPU and can run any OS.

    • @srvuk
      @srvuk Год назад +15

      @@TBMartin Khadas are also based in Shenzhen, China. Much development for all these kinds of boards comes from the community, rather than the companies themselves. I really don't see the value in such a thing and the fact that the specially designed case doesn't take into account the I/O board also shows lack of attention to something rather fundamental in design. OOWOW is the one thing that they do have going for them. Compare it to the Rock 5B and there is no real contest.

    • @F0XH0UND007

      What isn't a Chinese company or manufactured part. I find it funny when people mention china yet china owns the whole market with practically all chipsets. Even the name brands are built from China. It's all about that market strategy aimed for certain customers.

    • @Kanken-jl7oe
      @Kanken-jl7oe Год назад +3

      @@TBMartin support for the opi 5 has been pretty good recently, we got gpu acceleration working and it's a solid board all-round for half the price of the edge 2... khadas also being chinese i see no reason i should buy from them at this point... even the rock5b is a better value than whetever this is...

  • @nukem170
    @nukem170 Год назад +3

    The price this is listed at, makes it not worthwhile as a every day PC. $360+ USD for 64GB EMMC and 16GB RAM? You can find something else much more capable unless your main concern is the form factor. Even then, a cheap android phone would probably out perform it at smaller form factor and cheaper price.

  • @mattdavis9601
    @mattdavis9601 Год назад +5

    Two questions: 1) Performance-wise, what's this board's equivalent in Snapdragon? Judging by how it's running "GT4" at Laguna Seca which is a track my 845 struggles with, I'm assuming it's stronger than that. 2) If it's not stronger than an SD845, what settings did you use to get it that nice? The "Get Ready to Drive" notification stays up after the race starts when you underclock and according to the stats it says it's running Vulcan, but that's about all I can tell. I've tried both to meh results on the SD845.

    • @pingtime
      @pingtime Год назад +3

      Nah man it's worst, especially in GPU side, If you just want to emulate console games/do basic task, you better buy used Samsung S10 with busted screen and hook it up to a monitor using USB-C dock (SD855 has better thermal). about why your SD845 equpped device slower than SBC above, well, the first suspect is thermal throttling, second is poor software/kernel implementation by the manufacturer. As you can see, despite using newer 8nm process node, RK3588 need huge heatsink/active cooling to maintan it's performance, and I'm pretty sure your snapdragon 845 phone/tablet only using (at it's best depends on MFG) cooper heatpipe buried inside the phone chasis without an good airflow, and will affect performance under sustained load like long gaming session. The software issue is pretty simple, I have several SD845 phone, Including OP6, Sharp Aquos R2, Poco F1, Samsung S9+ (US model) and arguably "worst performance" international model using Exynos 9810. And yes, some manufacturer like Sharp and Samsung is more conservative about the system scheduler inside the kernel, resulting worst overall performance agains Oneplus 6 and Xiaomi Poco F1. But the magic start when you put custom rom and tweaking some of the settings, my Exynos 9810 equipped model brutally outperform all SD845 on long gaming session thx to better software and thermal handling. The easiest method I reccomend is putting peltier-based phone cooler (which only cost around $10).

Xunlong's orange pi 5 has the same SOC and can match the amount of ram the edge 2 has for half the price... 240$ is in the X86 sbc levels of pricing and the performance and support these ones have is unmatched... SBC's are losing their half of their point of existing. Raspberry Pi was a prime example of pointing to low-budget for low performance and small size. SBC's evolved through the years and seemed like they were going somewhere. This, however, is an example of how SBC's aren't aiming for anyone in particular anymore. Mini PC's cost similar prices and often have better specs. If you're looking for any PC, building one is much better bang for the buck. There's no point in spending for SBC's now.
