why? you're only meant to be in it for short periods and connecting to a charger could unnecessarily increase enter/exit times.

@@_blank-_ These Tesla based tunnels are not subways. Higher capacity and flow than subway systems. More efficient to run, in both expense to create and keep running. They produce less pollution and require significantly fewer resources of all kinds to manage.

How can it break down, the car itself will be on a platform and the one shown in the video were on individual skates. An autonomous vehicle breaking down in a tunnel would be like a metro breaking down. It’s not good to make statements from ignorance .

In my hometown Hamburg, Germany, we have a tunnel wich is nearly 500 meters long and 20 meters deep under a River, called "Alter Elbtunnel" . Cars are lifted up and down by 4 Elevators. It was build 1911. Just to mention the topic innovation.

1. electric cars (not only tesla)
2. equiped with AI to let the car drive in the tunnel.
So wait until a majority of the traffic is made of electric cars.

Bernhard Blietz I think their goal is to make everything autonomous, each and every car in the tunnel will be moving at the same high speed, thus eliminating traffic jam. That’s something you can’t quite achieve with subway, well, at least not now
No, this is for his hypertrain stuff.
If Subways were the solution, we'd have a lot more subways. The problem with subways is their inflexibility. You have to walk to and from the stops. You can't transport much by way of baggage. Traveling with a family is stressful, and maybe dangerous. With this tunnel, none of those are issues.
However, there ARE other issues. For one, even with a colossal network of tunnels, it's likely the elevators would be choke points. For another, it'll only accept electric vehicles, because the fumes from fuel-powered vehicles would be dangerous.
The cost of building it is much more cheaper than normal subway though

I can't be the only one who doesnt get the hype, its a tunnel. It's not "the future", people have been making them for centuries. I understand he has modified a car with some $1000 tech, but beyond that, its just a tunnel but with Elons name attached.
Same people said that about Tesla how there was a electric car 100 years ago but look now he made every car manufacturer go electric and shook the game up. They said the same thing about SpaceX but he has managed to launch the most rockets in one year then any other company in one year and the cost is way cheaper and it's reusable. This is only a prototype to show people. He funded the tunnel by selling those "not a flame thrower" and the dirt he got out of the tunnel turned in to bricks. Average cost to make a tunnel is 900 million a mile his current cost is 10 million a mile and he says he can improve on it a lot.

Elon has said that earthquakes aren't too relevant underground. It's like how you don't care about typhoons in a submarine. The walls are fully able to bend and conform to an earthquake without even cracking at all.

Car elevators arn't needed. Simply use existing car garages in the city under buildings as entry/exit points by building extra ground floor for entering into tunells. Cars can travel from one garage to another through tunells at high speeds, freeing streets. Great idea. For higher speeds air should be pumped in the direction of traffic to reduce air friction. Besides little wheels reinforced bumpers should be added. In case of power loss other cars can always push it through from behind.

Elon's visions are to make everything affordable for example how SpaceX launched the most rockets in a year with reusable and efficiency. In this case a normal tunnel would go for a cost of 900 Million $ a mile, the current cost is 10 million per mile, and he is still improving it.

I had this idea about 15 year's ago , but slightly different .because your car is using it's own gas . Like when they adjust your timing . Your wheels on rollers and a sensor that will either move a slower car over or let your wheels soon in neutral until you can over take it . Different depth levels for different destinations . Enter the tunnel and set a destination , then gun it .
