Replacing the Shift Knob in E92 BMW M3 with ZHP Weighted Shift Knob

- First mod of 2018. Decided to replace the stock M3 shift knob with a weighted ZHP shorty shift knob. The process is pretty straightforward, but does require cutting the leather shift boot.
I walk you through the process and you can easily follow along. If you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out.
The last part of the video has a test ride and my initial thoughts on this updated shifter!

Yah, mods are hard to decide on. This actually is something I bought a while back but lost the part! Found it in cleaning and decided to install. My son is a car and video fan 😂 he has his own YT lol. Thanks for always interacting and watching! 🙏🏻

I just recently did this myself, definitely a great upgrade to improve shifter feel. Have you thought about the ultimate clutch pedal, I only hear good things about that also.....that might be my next mod. I wish I had this video two months ago.
I haven’t heard of that until now, I’ll have to check it out. This mod is night/day it’s insane, just took the car on a rally yesterday, huge difference. Wish i got the video out sooner, but had some work stuff that delayed it.

Did you glue the top of the boot (where you trimmed it) onto the new shifter?
I was able to tuck and fold it, since the zip tie was tight enough. If i was going to do it again I would probably glue it.
have this in my e46 330 definitely notice a difference. trying to get the one piece off my e60 m5 but it is stuck on and I'm going to have to dremel it or something.
Yah, the one piece design is a pain for sure. I had good luck with a new razor knife, just move slow and safely. Kinda wish the F10 fit this car, but the work required for it wasn’t worth it.

Where did you get your zhp weighted illuminated shift knob from? I have an '07 6-speed m5

Does the ZHP shift knob come illuminated or did you add that?
The lighting comes from OEM. However it might be an option at point of sale because I've seen some without it.
I did this shifter last year and ever since I have a rattle in about 2-3 gear if I touch the shifter it goes away any ideas
Is the knob loose when wiggling it? It’s also possibly the wiring rattling at certain RPMs

I bought this from a seller on M3Post. The brand starts with a Z but I can’t remember off hand. You can also use the F series shift knob with some modification.

buy the way the power button near the shifter makes it go faster its basically sport mode
Correct. It tightens the suspension, increases throttle response and stiffens the steering input.
Where do you buy this?
I bought the shift knob on M3Post. There are others on EBay though.
