I suspect this will mostly mean... you can move your minatures and roll dice... just like you could with a very basic use of Roll20 or another VTT

I don’t think they are going to open VTT support to just anyone, but even if they fully support Free League’s LotR 5e game, that would be amazing.

no way WotC devotes dev dollars to supporting other systems
they've announced that Free League games are coming to D&D Beyond, but I think that's limited to Free League's 5e offerings

Oh I agree. But the fact that they’re even keeping it this open is interesting.
