You were actually the enigma during the build off. You're the "wait for it" moment. And it was worth it. I also think that what finished your enclosure was the eloquence and articulation of your description and explanation. Kudos 👏👏👏
This enclosure is absolutely amazing. I love the amount of thought and effort that you put into it. I'm definitely going to build something like this someday. Whoever gets this enclosure is definitely lucky. The fact that you added your grandfather's tools is really something special.
That is just an absolutely stunning enclosure. I told my husband that I’d very seriously consider us driving to the opening weekend (from Massachussetts!) just to make sure we could place a ludicrously high bid and win it….if we had anywhere to put it right now. Just captivating, from the story to the aesthetics. (And nice ending. I hope someone was eating shawarma. 😂)
So it's our understanding now that the enclosures are actually being raffled off at Snake Discovery's grand opening! (unfortunately it was just Applebees)
@@ReachOutReptiles They’d have to limit raffle tickets, and even then, I’d consider paying people to enter for me. I think some of it is the emotional connection-my grandfather was a farmer/carpenter, and had the same tools-it /feels/ like home, as weird as that may sound. Although hah, I just realized - we DO have this enclosure, for our cats! My husband installed “skyways” - 1x10s stretching from our front door to the front windows, about 14 feet up. There are turrets, a literal ramp, multiple stairways on and off, bridges, pockets, places to nap, you name it. They can play the floor is lava and still get around the complete loft space; he estimates he put up over 220sqft of cat-only elevated walkway. No WONDER I like your enclosure so much! 😉
@@fallensway855 yeah, I’ll put up some video/images on my Instagram and let you (and Garrett, and anyone else, obvs) know when I do/where to find it. Our kitten has another corneal ulcer, so I’m focusing on keeping her calm for the next few days. (Known condition; we adopted her knowing she was going to have these thru her life. It still sucks.)
Your enclosure's concept is something I've never seen before and absolutely didn't expect when I started watching the competition. What an unique idea! After that I've watched some of your videos and the one about what to do when a snake bites you really stuck out to me. There are so many misconceptions about reptiles (and other animal groups for that matter) that result in unnecessary fear which is why I hope to sensitize my future students (I'm studying to become a biology teacher) about those issues
There’s at least one zoo with a similar enclosure for their black rat snakes: the Columbus zoo! They always had the native snakes you find in barns in an enclosure that was built to be the inside of a barn. It was a surprise to come upon after tons of naturalistic enclosures, and they used it to emphasize that the snakes provide a service in the barn and shouldn’t be killed. (They continued that theme elsewhere and now have a whole exhibit space of animals in synanthrope-style enclosures, built as if it’s a marketplace.)
New subscriber here! I loved loved loved the build-off on Emily's channel and I found your channel because I just adored this build so much!! So, so unique. I love me a naturalistic enclosure but yours was naturalistic in a very unique and creative sense and that water feature and that faux window just put it over the top. You got my vote!!
I have been wanting to do something similar! Finding rat snakes in my great grandparents barn were some of my earliest hands-on reptile experiences. Thanks for the inspiration, doing something new. You got my vote!
The enclosure that you built is absolutely stunning and I love the innovative design that you incorporated! Feels like a proper zoo build! Was just wondering, would the wood hold up well to the humid/moist environment well or would it start to rot?
WE have TONS of drainage built in, and those heat treated pallets do last an awfully long time, even outdoors, in the rain, sun, etc. Nothing lasts forever, but these were designed to hold up under natural torture. ;)
@@ReachOutReptiles Thanks for the reply! That makes a lot of sense! It has now inspired me to make a really interesting enclosure, even if I don't use it for one of my animals!
Over here in Germany people build yard furniture and plant holders out of heat treated palettes and leave them outside during the winter. They hold up really well. So I would assume that they would easily last for a few years inside the enclosure.
Friend: "What'cha watchin'?" Me: "Snake Discovery's build off. It's a nail-biter. This guy, Garrett, is leaving us with a cliffhanger!" Friend: "You thinkin' 'bout gettin' a snake?" Me: "Only if I could have Elle's enclosure...Hartle stressed me out..."😆 (And a good time was had by all❣)
Isn’t it delightful? Emily and Ed have given me so many wonderful new channels to binge watch, and I’m starting with Garrett. I know nothing about Super Dwarf Retics, but ask me again in two weeks… 😉
I love your innovation with your enclosure! And you really epitomized one of Snake Discovery's ideals of recycling and reusing! I love you went with a totally different look but still did an excellent job of making a great comfortable home for whatever lucky reptile gets to live there.
Glad to see that you didn’t just nip out and buy the enclosure 😂, when everyone was showing your enclosure and it was empty and you were no where to be seen ( on the other videos) then it was suddenly done at the last moment, got to be honest I wasn’t sure if you would finish, excellent concept and finish 👍
Absolutely loved your build! Had to follow you 🥰 I want to do something similar for my leopard gecko because he loves to explore and that design is so unique! Great job 👏
I have to tell you... we love Snake Discovery and we live local to them. My 9 year old son fell in love with their channel and fell in love with snakes from watching their channel. We have been to the facility numerous times and he has been wanting a hognose snake for the last 2 years. My husband and I are finally on board and excited to welcome our first snake/reptile as a result of our son's growing love of reptiles. Anyway, we watched this enclosure build off and met you through it. Your enclosure was so special. We fell in love with your enclosure and the meaning behind it. Hope you win! Nice to 'meet' you! Ps...new subscriber! Excited to look through your content!
Totally amazing build, I love it! I am totally going to emulate what you did for one of my 'fairly plain Jane' 4x2x2 AP cages that currently houses a corn snake - I think he would love cruising around a fake barn cage like this. Thank you for the inspiration!
Hi Garrett! I just wanted to say that after watching Snake Discovery's videos, along with yours and all the other contestants, I'm newly subscribed to your channel. I think RUclips showed me one of your videos sometime ago and then didn't suggest anything else afterwards, so I'm glad to have found you again via Snake Discovery and their event. I absolutely love the enclosure you made! The inclusion of your grandfather's tools was such a sweet and unique touch to an already amazing build! It melted my heart and brought tears to my eyes when I saw it. I wish I could make it out there for the grand opening of the zoo, I'd absolutely do what I can to take that enclosure home with me, haha! Lots of love to y'all from South Florida! 💚🐍💚
I love your build. It was so beautifully artistic to look at but also nostalgic by reminding me of being a kid digging around old sheds looking for lizards/snakes/spiders. I like naturalistic enclosures, but yours was hyper realistic to me.
I loved your build! Extreme creativity. It was fun watching all the funny interaction between the contestants. So amazing to see all of my favorite people in one place. Very memorable!
Love the old tools! Takes me back to my Grandpa's work shed. ALL the enclosures are incredible and I'm happy to find some new reptile channels to watch. Good luck to you! 🤗💗🤗
I really LOVE your design! It is so different then anything else I have ever seen! I live in Maine so I can't make it to the auction, but I would bid on your enclosure if I could! It is absolutely beautiful and the fact that you put your grandfather's actual tools in it blows my mind! If I had been able to buy it I would have returned the tools, just because I am so sentimental, and replaced them with similar tools from a yard sale or antique shop. I am so impressed I subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching all your videos!
You definitely earned my sub. I've heard of everyone in this challenge except you until I watched the first video from Snake Discovery. This build is unlike anything I've seen since starting my own adventure into tank builds and types of critters. Well done man. You deserve the win with your creativity and drive as well as the beautiful product you created!
Amazing job on the build-off! Your enclosure was gorgeous and it really stood out! I also really love your sense of humor and the editing. So glad to have found you! 😁
Your enclosure knocked it outta the park! Everyone else's enclosures all looks generally the same, yours stood way out and I get teary eyed hearing you describe it every time. This was great, seeing your process, cuz everyone else's videos were just like "Garrett hasnt even started yet" 😆 Excellent job!
I am a huge huge fan of naturalistic theme enclosure but seeing the thought, efforts and how much you personally invested in your enclosure won my vote,.so it says a lot about your enclosure! Congrats and Kudos for the creativity! Subscribing as a new fan now!
I'm so glad you were invited, never seen your channel before, but you really are an awesome guy! The competition was close, but I just had to vote for you - such a unique futurama build. It reminds me of the ant enclosures that antsCanada pulls off sometimes. So cool 😎
Absolutely Beautiful Build.... Love this enclosure..... it is by far the most thought out and unique of all of the enclosures. I wish I myself could have something like this.... Such an awesome video !!
I've enjoyed watching the videos from each of the channels that took part in the competition but I have to say this one was definitely the most fun to watch. Really great editing job!
So much jeopardy even after watching snake discovery's video. Would love to see what the enclosure would have looked like without all the "situations" and "supplies". Bravo!
I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS VIDEO!!! After the buildoff, I was looking at everyone else's vids and I was sad that yours was just the lead up. I wanted this one!!
Hey, only here because I watched the build off on Snake Discovery. I LOVED your build. There was a lot of beautiful work across the board but your build was so original and every piece worked with your theme so well.
Everyone did a great job building their enclosure. I was trying to imagine either my ball python or rosy boa in each one. Your build was so different than all of the others and in the end I voted for yours to win. Mostly because every part of the enclosure is accessible for getting the little critters out. Also because it looked like it has the most usable space. You gained a new subscriber today.
@@ReachOutReptiles The only part of your build that a Rosy would not appreciate is the large water tub. As a true California native, mine is water conscious and avoids touching water as much as he possibly can. His water dish is a 3" condiment bowl. The rest of your build he would absolutely love exploring. It would take him quite a while to cover a 4x2x2 but he would enjoy the hours of exploration. Rosy Boas are my absolute favorite snake. As you said, the crown jewel. Totally underrated in the hobby.
This was amazing, and a genuine pleasure to watch from start to finish! I was actually starting to tear up watching your full speech about your enclosure on the other videos. Your finished build was absolutely spectacular Garrett, and made so much more special by how much thought went into it and the inclusion of your grandfathers tools etc. Thank you so much for helping to make this event so truly memorable in the very best way.👍 P.S. The “post-credits Avengers scene” in this video was perfect 😂
This is fantastic! I had a similar idea recently and built a cabin-themed enclosure for a kingsnake. I don't have anywhere near your skill, but this gives me some big goals to work towards. I'm so glad you posted a video of your build; I really wanted to see more of you making it. Thank you!
Garrett talking about the art supplies: “it’s gonna be tough to use in six hours” “six hours is plenty of time to decorate a cage but if you’re building anything custom” also Garrett: spends the entire six hours building something custom and literally from scratch, needing to use every second wisely.😂😂 but seriously, you made a really awesome build and everyone’s enclosure looks fantastic. it’s so cool to see everyone’s process behind building their enclosure.
Your enclosure is just insane. After I watched your last video, I got a rope for my enclosure aswell, so my Ball Python has somethin to climb on. Your build is so inspiring.
LOVE this video! Loved your enclosure build and all the thought and planning that went into it, even the hope that you would find the materials you needed, which you did! It's such an innovative, yet original idea to have a barn style enclosure. Literally summing up how we can live together with reptiles and coexist in a beautiful way! I cannot like this video and your build enough! Of course I have voted for yours 😉 good luck 🤞

Thanks Hailey, my favorite memory of him was building a screen top for a large Green Iguana enclosure I made as a kid. He was a great guy.
@@khills hmmm 😏 (
@@khills Yeah, I'd love to see that!
Your build was absolutely incredible! Such a unique concept that speaks to so many people. You definitely deserve to win!
Thank you so much!
Biology teachers for the win! Good luck educating the future, hopefully we can bring about some real change!
Seriously loved your "grand theft garbage" approach to collecting building supplies....
We don't believe in any other approach 😏
@@ReachOutReptiles especially with lumber prices where they are these days🤣🤣
I'm so glad you were a part of this, as I found your videos through the contest. Your build is super cool and unique.
Thank you, Natalie! I ALMOST wasn't there- I was literally the last minute add in! I was so grateful to barely make the cut!
Thanks for the vote, and the watch! We are so glad glad to have you!
I could NOT agree more!
I have been wanting to do something similar! Finding rat snakes in my great grandparents barn were some of my earliest hands-on reptile experiences. Thanks for the inspiration, doing something new. You got my vote!
Thanks man, it almost sounds like this build WAS for you!
Friend: "What'cha watchin'?"
Me: "Snake Discovery's build off. It's a nail-biter. This guy, Garrett, is leaving us with a cliffhanger!"
Friend: "You thinkin' 'bout gettin' a snake?"
Me: "Only if I could have Elle's enclosure...Hartle stressed me out..."😆
(And a good time was had by all❣)
hahaha! I think I stressed a few people out with this one!
As soon as I saw your enclosure build I knew you'd win 😂 amazing setup, man. You really pushed me to design and build themes for some of my enclosures
Glad to hear it!
Absolutely amazing concept. Such a huge surprise to discover your channel. Now I just have to binge watch the rest :)
Oh, wow, good luck with that! I hope you like Super Dwarf Retics!!
Isn’t it delightful? Emily and Ed have given me so many wonderful new channels to binge watch, and I’m starting with Garrett. I know nothing about Super Dwarf Retics, but ask me again in two weeks… 😉
I had not heard of your channel before this but I liked the personal touch and the water feature so I voted for you
Thanks, man- I appreciate that! I think it speaks louder to win the vote of someone who DEOSN"T already know you- the build wins on merit alone!
I love your innovation with your enclosure!
And you really epitomized one of Snake Discovery's ideals of recycling and reusing!
I love you went with a totally different look but still did an excellent job of making a great comfortable home for whatever lucky reptile gets to live there.
Makes me feel great about the herp people I follow
We're just glad awesome people like you are a part of our community!
Yea we were working until the very last second to pull it off! I'm so glad you liked how the enclosure turned out!
Loved seeing the diversity and creativity of all the participants. You guys make me want to get back in the hobby again. Great work to all
Thanks! It's a pretty great community
Absolutely loved your build! Had to follow you 🥰 I want to do something similar for my leopard gecko because he loves to explore and that design is so unique! Great job 👏
Thank you so much! You should make a little "basement" for him to climb around when you do yours!
@@ReachOutReptiles that's that's great idea! I'm taking notes for when we upgrade him from a 40gal to a 4x2x2!
That enclosure is BADASS!!!!!!!
Thank you so much!
exquisite photography and editing!
I agree! I thought I was watching something on the Discovery Channel for a bit.
That's my guy, Thomas.
Wow, thank you so much! The reptile community is great, it would be a wonderful place for your son to be a part of!
I loved the summary of part 1. The editing in general on this vid was just amazing
Thank you so much! We put a lot of sweat into this one!
Totally amazing build, I love it! I am totally going to emulate what you did for one of my 'fairly plain Jane' 4x2x2 AP cages that currently houses a corn snake - I think he would love cruising around a fake barn cage like this. Thank you for the inspiration!
Oh man, a corn snake would be PERFECT for this! You should hang some dried Indian corn from the walls!
That’s awesome, thanks so much- and welcome to the channel!
Such imagination and creativity! I can totally see a bull snake, or garter snakes living there. Awesome!
Thank you, Winter!
I love your build. It was so beautifully artistic to look at but also nostalgic by reminding me of being a kid digging around old sheds looking for lizards/snakes/spiders. I like naturalistic enclosures, but yours was hyper realistic to me.
The best thing tho, is your YT handle! "Burninating the village, burninating the people.... TROGDOR!!!!"
I still can’t get over how amazing your enclosure was. Just the kind of thing I would make!
Great minds think alike!
Great work, I'd love a tutorial one day!!
Yep I’m not gonna lie I liked them all a lot but yours my friend was next level picture perfect I was not expecting that AWESOME!!!
Thank you so much!
Congratulations on the the win love the video and the enclosure.
Thank you!
🤗💗🤗
That's awesome, and Thank you!
Your talent and interaction with audience is top notch! Amazing
Great video! Loved the water feature and thought behind the whole build.
Thanks Jennifer! It was last minute, but I stayed up nights planning what I might be able to make once I found out what materials I could scrounge up!
Thomas feeding Garrett and Ed at the restaurant 🤣🤣
Awesome enclosure too! The story brought a tear to my eye, miss my gramps
Thank you, and that's a very sweet idea!
What a great event. Your creativity for the build was nice. Here in wyoming people often find bull snakes in old barns and sheds.
Heck yeah, those would be PERFECT for this build!
Wow, awesome- thank you so much, and welcome!
Amazing job on the build-off! Your enclosure was gorgeous and it really stood out! I also really love your sense of humor and the editing. So glad to have found you! 😁
Thank you, and welcome!!
Your enclosure knocked it outta the park! Everyone else's enclosures all looks generally the same, yours stood way out and I get teary eyed hearing you describe it every time. This was great, seeing your process, cuz everyone else's videos were just like "Garrett hasnt even started yet" 😆
Excellent job!
Thank you! That's what we were hoping to share with this video, where we actually were for 6 hours! 😂
Love the restaurant post-credit scene!!! PERFECT!!! Even down to Ed "hiding" his (non-existant) Captain America facial hair!!
haha, you caught that, eh?
I am a huge huge fan of naturalistic theme enclosure but seeing the thought, efforts and how much you personally invested in your enclosure won my vote,.so it says a lot about your enclosure! Congrats and Kudos for the creativity! Subscribing as a new fan now!
That’s awesome, thank you- and WELCOME!
I'm so glad you were invited, never seen your channel before, but you really are an awesome guy! The competition was close, but I just had to vote for you - such a unique futurama build. It reminds me of the ant enclosures that antsCanada pulls off sometimes. So cool 😎
Ants Canada is an all time great- I will take the compliment, thank you!
Absolutely Beautiful Build.... Love this enclosure..... it is by far the most thought out and unique of all of the enclosures. I wish I myself could have something like this.... Such an awesome video !!
Thank you Tammie!
awesome job dude, your grandpas tools put the icing on the cake!
Thank you!
I think we have a winner... I am sure you gonna win... this is far the most beautiful enclosure that I ever see.... 😍😍😍
Wow, thank you very much!
I've enjoyed watching the videos from each of the channels that took part in the competition but I have to say this one was definitely the most fun to watch. Really great editing job!
Thomas crushed this one, thank you!
Congrats on the win!!! Well deserved. Elles and Brian’s were my 2 other favorites.
They were awesome, everyone’s were so great!
I love your sentiment and nostalgic platform. I also love the support from your competitors in the goodwill event!
That was our favorite part of the event; the people made it very special.
So much jeopardy even after watching snake discovery's video. Would love to see what the enclosure would have looked like without all the "situations" and "supplies". Bravo!
Thank you!
Sir your enclosure build is my favorite one, it’s nostalgic- it tells a story and it’s functional; it’s a really dope enclosure 🙏🏻
😎🤙 thanks!
I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS VIDEO!!! After the buildoff, I was looking at everyone else's vids and I was sad that yours was just the lead up. I wanted this one!!
Here you have it! :)
Garrett your definitely one of a kind brother...... Love everything u do
Thank you!
If I could pick, this is the enclosure I'd want in my house.
Hey, only here because I watched the build off on Snake Discovery. I LOVED your build. There was a lot of beautiful work across the board but your build was so original and every piece worked with your theme so well.
Thanks for spending some time here with us!
@@ReachOutReptilesI've subscribed now so I'll be spending more time :)
The reveal on this literally made me gasp, it’s so well done. This was so fun to watch on SD’s channel, can’t wait to see the next one! 😄
Thank you very much!
Wow, thank you so much! I think this would be a great Rosy enclosure- we used to find those as kids, they were like the crown jewel!
Thank you so much for helping to make this event so truly memorable in the very best way.👍
P.S. The “post-credits Avengers scene” in this video was perfect 😂
Thank you so much for the kinds words, I'm glad to have connected in that way with ya!
This is fantastic! I had a similar idea recently and built a cabin-themed enclosure for a kingsnake. I don't have anywhere near your skill, but this gives me some big goals to work towards. I'm so glad you posted a video of your build; I really wanted to see more of you making it. Thank you!
That's awesome, if you are on IG or FB, you will have to tag us so I can see what you did with yours!
Garrett talking about the art supplies: “it’s gonna be tough to use in six hours” “six hours is plenty of time to decorate a cage but if you’re building anything custom”
also Garrett: spends the entire six hours building something custom and literally from scratch, needing to use every second wisely.😂😂
but seriously, you made a really awesome build and everyone’s enclosure looks fantastic. it’s so cool to see everyone’s process behind building their enclosure.
Haha, I know… I need to learn to just shut up! Lol
@@ReachOutReptiles it wouldn’t be the same if you did though 😔😂
The editing of this video was so well done and the enclosure looks amazing!
Thank you so much!!
Your enclosure is just insane. After I watched your last video, I got a rope for my enclosure aswell, so my Ball Python has somethin to climb on. Your build is so inspiring.
That's awesome, they are so cool to watch climb!
Congratulations on winning the build! It was well deserved.
Thanks Lori!!
By far your set up was the most unique that ive seen. Great job man!
I Appreciate that! Thank you!
LOVE this video! Loved your enclosure build and all the thought and planning that went into it, even the hope that you would find the materials you needed, which you did!
