After months of use, it is still holding up very well, and I am excited to introduce you OFFICIALLY to these game-changing replacement lids to convert Exo Terra Reptile enclosures into safe enclosures for tarantulas.

Just a reminder that some local hardware stores will cut acrylic for you. You have to measure the size you need and drill the holes yourself, but the last lid I had cut was over 20 inches long and it only cost $3 for acrylic and cutting! Definitely not as luxurious as good old T cribs, but a budget friendly alternative I've done several times over the past few years!

Focus cubed habitats makes some. But cost about twice as much. If you get the add on clear window. If not the price just varies on size.

    5mm plexiglass, a saw and a 3mm drill.
    3 lids then cost €32.
Just put it on and you're good.
The terrarium is already expensive enough at €70.

I have the zilla exo terra enclosures with clips on the top. The sizes I have are 12x12x15 and 12x12x20. I would very much be interested in getting clear acrylic tops for them.

Are the vents holes in the glass or are they somehow closed, I want to use this for my dart frog vivarium and crested gecko vivs but not sure if those holes are too big for preventing fruit flies getting out?

Exo terra 30x30x30 is 80 eur and you have to get this and its probably more than 20 e so if i have 10 tarantulas i will spend 1k i dont get for what, exo terra enclousures of that size are for other than t. And they still use that stupid mesh , but people have a lot of money i guess....

Hey, Richard! I just want to say thank you so much for your many videos on tarantulas. Especially the ones geared toward people just starting out. I just received my very first ever tarantulas from Tarantula Canada (thanks to your mention of them). I have a Brachypelma albiceps and a Tliltocatl vagans. After watching several of your videos I was confidently able to unbox them and introduce them to their new enclosures. Thank you for the excellent teachings and easy-to-follow videos to get people like me set up. Your videos are invaluable.

Thank you for being kind and spreading positivity and encouragement. It means a lot more than you may realize!

Good on you to support your friends Richard but 35 USD for a lid? Sorry but that is a hard no. Your pals make pretty looking boxes but what's up with the price gouging?? Their enclosures already cost too much but charging 35 for a simple lid is ridiculous. Someone needs to call this out. Sorry. That's just insane!
I would love for you or Kat, since you two promote them the most, to visit them and do a breakdown blog on manufacturing and overhead cost. Their enclosures are not even competitively priced but marked way up. I'd love to know what makes theirs so expensive as to having to charge so much more money. Genuine interest in why that is.
I can buy just about two of any given size to their one. Sorry T-cribs you are not cost efficient for keepers and I do not know why. As pretty as your work is. This isn't getting me to buy your goods.

    • @tarantulacollective
      @tarantulacollective  8 месяцев назад

I have been to their facility, and I have explained in multiple videos the differences between their enclosures and the cheaper acylic enclosures on the market. A lot of it has to do with the quality and thickness of the acylic. An enclosure half as thick would cost considerably less to manufacture, but of course, it will be much more susceptible to warping and falling apart (as many of the cheap ones do). It is like just about anything else in life, you can buy cheaper versions, but after you take into consideration how often you have to replace the cheaper product, you're usually better off just buying the better quality to begin with bc it lasts much longer. But I am working on a video that compares different types of enclosures side by side and shows the thickness of the acylic in comparison, as well as how they hold up over time.
If it is too expensive for your budget, then please don't buy them. No one is forcing anyone to buy enclosures or saying one type of enclosure is the only one people should use. So there isn't anything to "call out," but if you're really interested in price comparison....check out how much they are charging for acylic enclosures in the aquarium hobby and the reptile hobby. You can even reach out to some of these companies that make custom enclosures and give them the dimensions and thickness of the acylic and see how much they'd charge to make an enclosure to those specs. I think you might be surprised just how expensive these enclosures can get when you're not comparing them to cheap, mass-produced crap built with the thinnest, lowest quality acylic possible.

@@tarantulacollective I appreciate your time of your lengthy response, thank you! I may not always or entirely agree I don't want you to think I do not appreciate what you do. I still feel they are overpriced but you are right too we all buy on our budget! There still is a difference in "can afford" and "want to pay double" too, though. I could, but I rather buy two exos for the same money. Different strokes, I suppose!
See it's not just acrylic that is in the game. I will look very much forward to your comparison video. Please consider the notion of "what makes a t-crib twice the price of an exoterra that is arguably more complex to build with all their different (and moving) parts." Real glass. metal. plastic. Intricate bits versus acrylic and magnets. You can see how this needs explaining beyond "this is thick acrylic" :)
