Great video as usual Bob. I've made a few of these by splitting both bamboo and rivercane but this trap in particular I don't believe I've seen. Well done brother. Tommy
Great great videos and LOVE your dog! Incidentally Bob...I dive alot with sharks in the water and I could NEVER do what you're doing out there in the swamps...just super!!
A time investment in the beginning but will be worthwhile for the long run ! I've made more than a few with wire, because it was available but found that natural materials seemed to work a little better. Wasn't seeing any new videos from you and was hoping all was alright, glad to see you back to giving us good information ! Thanks for sharing and take care !
That is really cool I really enjoy watching you out there putting so much effort into a single trap that is time consuming, obviously very hot outside, and patience wearing thin with the bugs bothering you I would assume, but really awesome nonetheless really good job there Bob and very nicely well done and made!
I was beginning to think we lost you due to one of your survival adventures lol! Glad to see you are back and thanks again for another useful survival video. I definitely want to be able to try this out one day but living in NJ there aren't many rural areas to experiment with :D. Keep it up Bob!
Like many have said. Glad youre back. Hopefully you were just taking a break from videos and it wasnt anything more serious. If I can make a suggestion. Just keep us in the loop. Theres 50 thousand plus (50k+, 50000+, fifty-thousand+) of us who like youre channel, dont leave us in a lurch for so long. Not saying you need to tell us anything personal. Just say "Hey guys Im taking a break/going on vacation/etc. Ive seen plenty of RUclips channels get abandoned and was worried this was another example.
I make similar traps both larger and smaller than the one you made. I make mine out of willow as after few hrs in water it will sink on own. I make my traps like a mat laid flat on ground with the shafts tied 1 inch apart. When wide enough I roll them around two funnels, if for lake, pond or still water both funnels inward, if for a river then the one upstream is closed cone and points out of trap. I attach rope to that point of cone and secure it to an underwater log and on back of trap have long cord with light weigy to snag and lift the trap out of water. for my really big traps (comercial license) I add few hoops in middle of trap to make more sturdy. biggest I have made was 4ft diam 12 ft long I usually use tie wire that is used for rebar, though have used hand made cordage too but that was just for fun
It’s the same matted, it just a bit different from my native, we used ROTAN instead of bamboo to make it a bit more lighter, and an opener from the back of the traps to release the caches. We call it in our language buvok(BOOVO’)in our native. Very good video, tumbs up.
Bob. Just a comment on this type of trap. When you build it, would it not be faster, less work, if you laid the cane shoots out in a flat layer, tied them together like a rug, then wrap them around the skeleton? Just a thought as I watched how you tied them on the rings individually.
@@BobHanslerI Personally would have split the cane so that it was easier to tie, and slightly lighter, and required a bit less cane. But as you said, it would have been easier to weave, and with a good knife, Like you have, splitting the cane into weaveable withs, soaking and weaving them would have been longer to prep, but actually easier to create. But that's a personal choice, with the skills that I have though. Not a choice for everyone.
What's up Bob? Long time no see...been a while but worth the wait. Excellent fish trap...looks as though it could b used for a long time & would really serve it's purpose for a while. What r U baiting it with? Would the trap still work n the creek on Ur land? Awesome video & glad to see U back. Keep up the great work...looking forward to see new videos. Can U show some hide tanning & how to use just the animals own brains to do it with. Maybe how to utilize & harvest the sinew to sew up the hides with.
Highly invasive. Latest biomass studies in rivers that are close to us have them at over 6%. They are out competing native fish populations and I can see i firsthand as we are catching more and more each day.
Are those placostamus fish you caught, good for eating? I thought I had heard they were but I'm just not sure. Thanks for the info and the videos. God bless bro.
I think I have yet to see a video where you don't run around in the water. I have no idea if it has any interest, but I'd love to see you attempt some survival methods in the oceans (read coastal areas).
Darn, finally found a video I haven't seen, but the picture was relegated to one small corner of my screen and was upside down. All of the other videos play just well. Darn it!
I couldn't catch what you called the fish that couldn't go back in the water? They didn't look like the Asian Carp I've seen, or Walking Catfish. What we're they. Silly asking here, I'll never be answered. LOL It was a terrific video.
I know this is an older video. Now it may be the wind blowing the reeds . But at 14:00 through up to 14:11. It sure looks like he had a curious on looker over his right shoulder across the reeds to the bush line A very dark something had slowly made its way out to watch him. It came out because it's view of him was blocked by the foliage just behind him. The camera wasn't moving so it was. At 1410 1411 as he stood up It ducked down into the brush
@@BobHansler I just discovered your videos Great!!!! Who knows whats out there Brother.IIv hear y'all are gonna have to keep eyes out for Jaguars soon. In the video I wasn't sure it was moving. I watched it using a static object and it crossed in front of it to get out far enough to mabe see you due to the bushes blocked you from it's line of site. Then when you stood up it ducked very fast. Lots of odd things out there in the woods and swamps. Especially Texas. Iv visited. First road runner I ever saw lol I visited Ft Hood a bit and I have heard some stories out of the Big Thickiit area Big monkey kinda stories ya know ? . I had just watched your gorge hook video. I wouldn't of ate the water snake it probably tastes a bit like frog but Iv had other No shoulders before and liked it. This fish trap video That open area you sunk the fish trap in looked like a Gator wallow. I'm here in Alabama on the Chattahoochee. 20 years ago you heard of one here and there. Now I can take a Jon Boat or Canoe up in a Slue frog gigging and see five or six. Lol get a canoe and five Hybrid bass on a stringer.? Bamm instant trolling motor They pull you around to all their favorite spots too . Lol your dog must of been raised by cats. He has the most laid back "Well I recon" attitude iv ever saw on a dog lol. When you was telling him to get out of the water in the gorge hook video? He was like so intent on what ever had his attention. The way he finally looked at you was like. "What? Huh?. I swore I saw a steak come to get a drink". I learned our Armadillo here are from a few mating pairs that escaped a pettng zoo in Fla. When a hurricane hit Fla and the Keys really hard in the twenties. It killed alot of WWI vets building the bridges connecting the keys back then. Due to the Mississippi River being a natural barrier. They breed like rabbits.
Seems you could have eliminated the labor intensive step of making the cordage and just tie off the ends and the mid sections with individual yucca strands. Just sayin'
Really cool! Archeologists recently found medieval fish weirs in Europe that look just like the one you made! Awesome videos!!
I've got to wonder why anyone would dislike this great and informative video
nice to see you
nice to see you .keep filming

beauty of a trap ! awesome great job

I had no idea the plecos we're a problem here in Texas. Interesting. 😃I always enjoy your great videos. You're so nifty😉.🌲
Congrats on almost 60k subs your channel is the best!
That was a large red ear slider! Had one as a kid and it was the meanest nastiest animal I've ever seen haha
Nice man you need more subs u got some cool vids
Enjoyed this video very much. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Interesting variation on the woven basket trap. What do you do with that invasive species when you catch them? Food? Fertilizer? Bait? Pet food?
very nice trap. That looked like a lot of work.
Excellent work!
Nicely done man! great video.

Tie in place with this one. Any wiggle room will cause it to move and shift until it collapses. Slick cane.

Long time no see , glad you're back ! ;)
I would suggest the use of a simple shuttle or fish net needle to handle the cordage. It might save half a day of construction time.
The man is back at it
great vid mate, i personally would also like to shorten the entrance depth and widen it a little, good trap!
Cool 😎 gonna give this a try!
You should write a prepper book with diagrams and photos. I'd buy it
super cool man, love your vids!
Bob would it be easier to lash the poles together like a bamboo mat first, and then roll them around the circular frame?
Wow that is quite a laborous tap. Fun to watch tho and glad you shared i enjoyed it as i do most your vids. peace.
Makes you appreciate knowing the time that goes into them.

Why would anyone dislike this lol it's so awesome
oh yeah! great work, bob! i was wondering what youve been up to?! what was that invasive rish again? ive never seen one on my neck of the woods.
Junkyard Fox It's a pleco, it's used in fish tanks to clean the glass
Great video, very educational. Is there anyway you can inform us more about those catfish and why they are an issue in taxes?
Highly invasive. Latest biomass studies in rivers that are close to us have them at over 6%. They are out competing native fish populations and I can see i firsthand as we are catching more and more each day.
Thank you.
You also can't release carp its illegal in Texas
Could put a door on top so you can see what your grabbing, right?
good job I'm not up on fishing as much as I'd like 2 be but you did u say u couldn't put that 1 fish back & had 2 terminate it?
Great information -- labor intensive but it works !!
It's been while my friend! You are so close to 60k subs!
Another stepping stone. Time to push towards 100k,
I'm glad 2 see u bac friend how hav y'all been

Hey Bob, who does the filming for you?
My beautiful wife.
Ah. Well keep up the good work, you guys are doing a hell of a job!
great build vid. Do you have a video for deadfall and other small creature traps?
Not just yet expect to see them this coming fall and winter.
"I hope there are no crocs come on in the water to the dog "😂👊
Great video. Thanks
that's a good dog, its just standing in the water waiting
Awesome!
What kind of tie are you putting on the inlet?
Bob did you catch any fish in the cane trap? In the marsh??
I liked it for the 1000th time

I'm far from being a middle schooler. you don't have to be rude.
This kind of trap are called " Through ", in Cambodia. It's been used for thousands of years.
He's back ;D
Btw check your description XD

Love your videos :D
I like that version the best. Maybe a bit longer and bigger around if a guy was coastal fishing. One enterence though.

Glad to have you.

great video sir

I'm like number 666 lol. cool. as always I love your vids and miss awesome Texans like you. hope you are well
is there a risk of alligators out there in the swamp?
There are always risks. I imagine walking down a city street could be more dangerous.
I couldn't catch what you called the fish that couldn't go back in the water? They didn't look like the Asian Carp I've seen, or Walking Catfish. What we're they. Silly asking here, I'll never be answered. LOL
It was a terrific video.
Pleco
What a monster of a trap by the way all the fish you can't return to the wild you should like make a fish tanks of them
Is that a pleco
what do you use for bait?
Twin Pet brand dog food from Walmart. Large bag for $5.
it looked like your entrance hole is fairly small how does a turtle like that get in?
you mentioned crocs... not many where I live but how do you protect
your self?
