    goddamn man, brent is such an overlooked master of the B3 organ! That beast of a crazily difficult instrument obeys his every command on a level that few have reached before him. The way he juggles his drawbar tones on it along with the perfect timing of the Leslie always blows my mind every time I hear it.

    July 1989 was, in my opinion, the best month of the Brent era.

    By god, that organ part Brent plays before the verses is absolute money. Timing the Leslie speed, the different tones, and the build up to those big chords could not be better. People hate on him for many reasons, some of which I agree with (like his synth tones, for example), but when he is on the organ, he cannot be beat in terms of Dead keys players. His skill on the organ outweighs the dislike of some of his era-specific bad synth tones for me. Brent had just mastered everything about playing a Hammond B3 organ. So nice, I know it was even better live.

      fr man he had a total mastery of the juggling act that is playing that instrument. He had to not only just play the chords; he had to turn the Leslie on and off, change drawbar/preset settings, AND sing for almost the whole song. So much stuff always going on when playing a B3 like that. It makes me nut every time lol

    Slooooooooowww.........annnddd........lacking the authority of the original.....especially the organ which is great for the Dead, but lacks the muscle of the hammond with a spinning leslie. Don't get me wrong, i am a fan of the G.D but somewhere between 1975 and 1978 they became something of a charactiture of themselves. Jerry's habit? On the road too long? Same ol', same ol'? Or just carrying too much weight to carry on the 60's into the 80's without Bear and his magical elixer? Well, if they helped turn on some folks, then I guess it's all good. Peace.

    • @gfunk7203
      @gfunk7203 5 лет назад +1

      ignoring all other uninspired points of this post... they used a spinning leslie for his hammond.

      There was life after Bear. 88/89/90 some of the best music they played. They did have some off years in late 70’s early 80’s . Don’t. deprive yourself of some great shows because you stopped going. I understand what your saying though, I have a hard time listening to the stuff after Brent. But even in those years there are some hidden gems.

      @@Stewmanatorz - If the G.D. did it for you fine! The last concert I went to was at Kesar featuring their wall of sound. It was a turn off. Cops checking everybody coming in which was understandable after some of the negative crap then was going down in other concerts. I was standing about halfway back from the stage and the sound was superb anywhere you stood. But the energy was flat. Made me feel those times ( the 60's) was over and they were doing their best to show people who never had the experience a bit of what it was. Y'know? But I knew the experience and wanted to move ahead. But if it makes you feel any better, I really dig Dead and Company. IMO, Jeff Chimenti is the best keyboard player for this incarnation if not, ever (In G.D. lore) To each their own, it's all unknown. Peace.
