i named my first cat bobaji..and always referred to that name all during my teens. back in the '60's when enlightenment was what we talked about much of the time...and some of us actually achieved it!
It certainly is on the CD that I have. It's the first song, and the booklet that came with the CD says..."Recorded live at FILLMORE EAST, New York, NY (4/27/71)"
Thanks for your comment. In regards to the comment below...there are a lot of young people who aren't familiar with the skull and roses album. This is a great recording. I made this video for the ones who have never heard it before...and the people like brianm1314 who appreciate the effort.
I for one am thankful to anyone that posts any music on here, regardless of how widely available that may be. Seriously think before you post. Isn't it nice to be able to search for a song you want to listen to and be able to pull it up? With the help of the person who posted this, this site is loaded.
EVERY song on the skull and roses album was taken from a live recording, as were the recordings on the Europe '72 album (although there were overdubs on many of those). I guess I saw the Dead about 2 dozen times over the years. The first show that I saw was at Nassau Coliseum, New York in 1974. I was only 10 feet from the stage and my ears were still ringing for about 6 hours after it ended :)
Heard people sing this a million times by Heads, but I gotta say it...for Jerry! "I had a hard on/Running from your window" :) This and "Jack Straw" were my favorite openers.
Too true. Fine fittle at this stage of the game. Good vocals and with only one drummer they had the persona then of a snappy lil' psychedelic country outfit. This track was on S&R. Mix is a bit different here but vocals and lead licks are exact.
Strange concert for me. First time I saw the Dead in an urban environment and by then I had been travelng with my own "band of Thieves" never missing (or hardly) ever missing a Dead Concert. There was something about being in the country listening to the Dead... OK...Here's the trivia question of that Decade...Ready? Sit down for this one. lol .. Who was the opening act for the Dead that evening at the Fillmore East...(Bll Graham had to have been shaken down to do this)...Buffy St. Marie!
I think I'll spend the night listening to "Bertha's". It's that great!!!
I'm with you!
My favorite Berthas:
5-9-77
4-12-78
7-24-87
4-26-72
Jerry's voice, so youthful, high, and sweet! Llke Alvin and the Chipmunks🐻
My FAVORITE rendition of this awesome piece of work. Thanx for posting!!
This is a seriously skillful showing of musician ship by them. Jerry's tone is unbelievable, as is the unity of their vocals.

I just love this song, one off the best The Grateful Dead ever did. Apart from the other 100 or so!

Been on my play list. WILL BE on my playlist. Just a given.
Betha, don't you come around here anymore!

Jerry sounds really good on this one! thanks for posting.
Patfaki, being a huge fan of the pedal steel and an admirer of its players, I appreciate that bit of info...

It's hard run, not hard on.
You are correct, I recognize the brief tuning notes before they rip into this primo number...
Dancin baby!

Test me test me why don't you arrest me.!
Why did we always cheer so loud for that? I don't know about you, but I was way too high to want that hassle. ;-)
at 520 it looks like a KLH behind jerry.
Bertha was an electric fan?!?
OK, so its the skull and roses version with a "slide show". why all the fuss?!?
for ya? Pretty good, I hope.....!
No, genius. "Skull & Roses" was recorded mostly at the Manhattan Center in March of '71 - NOT the Fillmore.
Garcia with a Les Paul?...NO!!!!
