Watching the way that Michael and Don Vito let Carlo think that he was safe and that he outsmarted them reminds me of the recent episode between Vladimir Putin and Yevgen Prigozin , when he tried to take control of Russia and after the "peace" deal that the Belorussian president orchestrated he thought he was safe and that Putin was gonna let it slide , he felt like the king of Russia , he felt unstoppable just like Carlo did , but then he fallen on Putin's trap and died on a plane crash.

Sonny had a genius for urban guerilla warfare. He managed to fight the five families to a stalemate. They had to eliminate him But it was planned years in advance. The placed him as a long term asset . The way his abuse of connie stopped just after sonny die . Thsts the key
@@robertbusek30 yes in the novel it discussed in greater detail. Before sonny even with vito and camellia. As soon as sonny died and when Michael came home , Michael made friends with him , and brought him into the business, In the book the vito owned the street all the houses outside the main house , Michael and kay in one , Tom and his family in another. Michael offered them a house beside him and kay and carlo bond over being the outsiders with Tom's wife ( she's a tiny part) . But Michael and kay discussed it . We learn later that vito and Michael had put it together, Michael was doing that keep your friends close but your enemy's closer .thing . Agh that farce you played with my sister * . It wasn't his nature. He stopped cheating as well . And the call from that woman and the arguments were all to provoke. Once sonny eas gone there was no need to . She was a good wife and the mother of his children and she loved him . She knew him for years ,before snd even sonny was surprised. Nit vito he had a bad feeling from the beginning.
@@robertbusek30 It would have made Carlo the slime realise if he continued the Corleone family would become resentful & suspicious that he caused sonny's demise. Also the novel affirms it stopped.

In the movie Michael wasn't sure so he asked was it this guy or that guy. Once he said Barzin his fate was sealed. At that point Michael found out for sure and lost interest in talking to Carlo. Carlos days were numbered. There was no way Michael was going to look over Carlo's betrayal of his brothers death.

Who was Carlo dialing on the phone when Michael walked in? Someone posted earlier on one of these podcasts- Carlo was calling his mistress to tell her he wouldn’t be coming over and would be delayed.
You think there’s any significance in the fact that when the situation that led to Sonny’s death happened his mistress called and said she wouldn’t be able to make it and then when it was Carlos turn He instead called the mistress saying he wouldn’t be able to make it I feel like there something to that

Everybody knew Sonny had a temper. The Turk called up and told Sonny to control his famous temper. Notice that Rizzi sounds like Pazzi, the family that challenged the Medici family.
Excellent analysis. Of course it was obvious that it was Carlo who had Santino set up, but they way Don Vito and Don Michael played him until the time comes (too bad Don Vito had passed), it was really machiavellian. I would like to suggest you, to make a big analysis on Don Carmine Luppertazi Jr and how he used the "Laws of Power", in order to pretend the weak & fool, but ended up eliminating two bosses (Don Phil and Tony) and taking over everything. If you rewatch carefully the "Meeting of Minds", the "Last Sit-Down" and even the first scene Carmine appears with Johnny Sack and his father, you 'll see, that it was Carmine all along!!! Hope you 'll find it interesting and make it soon!!! Thank you in advance
But when you think about it, the family would have looked much better had 1) Sonny been wise enough not to associate with Carlo, 2) The family ensured not to put Carlo in a position where he'd be capable of hurting the family...Maybe try to encourage Connie Corleone to find someone who isn't so untrustworthy and ambitious? Maybe you don't put someone like Carlo in a position where he has so little importance that he'll consider betrayal as a potential good decision, yet important enough to be able to betray the family in a way that ends up costing Sonny's life. I know that this is incredibly easy to say in hindsight, but it's equally as easy to pretend that everything that happens in the movie is the result of brilliant plans by the Corleone family...I mean, yes the movies are in large part about Vito and Michael's plans, but the very reason why they have to make those plans are because they ended up tough situations that they hadn't perfectly anticipated. Obviously you can't always control what your enemies are going to do, it doesn't mean the Corleones are weak or stupid, it, I just think that, while the plans that we see take place on screen may seem to be brilliant and very well coordinated, we shouldn't forget about the bad planning or lack of planning that led them in such situations to begin with. Maybe they aren't such absolute masters of the "rules of power" and such...Now let's be clear, I'm not saying that these aren't amazing movies :p.
Carlo had already shown severe disrespect towards Don Corleone by his treatment towards Connie, of course he'd be a traitor to the family in other ways. This would be obvious to any mobster with half a brain for the game
After reading the book and watching the film I have one question. Carlo was messily garroted by Clemenza. How did Michael stage his death/ disguise the cause of Carlo’s death for the funeral? Was his murder blamed on another family? I don’t recall this being explained. Connie clearly knew but no one paid attention. I wonder what Don Vito would have done?
He didn't. The official story was Carlo had run off, abandoning Connie and Victor. Connie filed for divorce and got it. Only Connie and the capos know the truth, as does Michael.
he did"t know ,he was bluffing. if he knew then why did he ask carlo who came to him?. he knew who the other treader was but not sure about carlos. see if carlos said the wrong name becase he was scared ,then mike would have knew he was wrong about carlos.
You're wrong on this one, Steve. Vito does say "I want no inquiries made." Go watch it again. "All inquiries" makes no sense when put together with his next sentence "I want no acts of vengeance". Or Google it.
Carlo was able to put the plan together cuz he knew Sonny ran every time his sister called so he was able to setup time and location. Sonny was smash mouth that’s why he was good at planning wartime strategies, as he said “hit ‘em hard and hit ‘em fast!”, and that made Sonny predictable and that’s why Vito was always hesitant about Marin him Don
Michael Corleone controlled his emotions perfectly. He listened patiently and carefully planned his moves. Nobody could know if he was angry or happy. You could easily assume that you had fooled Michael and not know he was watching you very carefully. Michael would have been told about how Carlo bashed his wife around and how Sonny bashed Carlo almost to death. So Michael knew that Carlo had the motive to hit back at Sonny. All Michael had to do was to pretend he did not care or know about how Sonny was murdered. Michael just needed some proof that Carlo was a traitor. Once Michael knew Carlo was a traitor he nailed him such that Carlo could not escape his fate. Michael had absolute control over his emotions but was also very smart.
They kept showing Hyman Roth on here; Michael did play somewhat dumb with him, but Roth was no fool and knew how to play the game even better with the Rosatto brothers incident and the attempt on Michael’s life and Michael’s attempt on Roth’s life.
@6:15 Giving Connie a hard time? Connie was a brat that didn't know her place. Sonny was a fool coming between a man and his wife. His mom warned him not to interfere. Knowing Sonny had her back made her more insubordinate and disrespectful. The Godfather never interfered. She shouldn't have called Sonny. Sonny cheated on his wife and she accepted it. Connie refused to accept it from Carlo.
People like you are so fucking stupid. None of that mattered in terms of the family. There are deeper things at play, even to the point of discounting cheating on spouses. You have to understand this kind of family and its relationships. People like you are about as deep as a puddle on the counter. Morons.
You can counter it by playing humble. If someone that would otherwise be an adversary seems to be glued to your word & deed, and gives you praise or more responsibility, tread lightly. Show gratitude, but downplay your abilities and insights. Undercut their attempts to placate your ego by deflating it to them. THEN... watch them. They may get the message that you're on to them. If so, hostilities will get more overt. If they missed it, remeber Machiavelli's lesson on enemies; "keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer". Cultivate a strong ally close to them, and win them over. Make it personal for them, and alienate them from your enemy by putting them in the bad light. Then, when the hostilities become more open, they will choose you and be easily cut out afterward. If possible, make them the patsy for the whole affair. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk on "How to Be a Successful Sociopath".🤣
When you shut up and watch. You gather intel. Knowledge is power. Michael , Tom and Vito knew this. Sonny was only brilliant when he was levelheaded. His kryptonite is his temper. He couldnt think straight. Hes dangerous. Men like that are easily controllable.

The birthday party was December 41 . The wedding was 45 almost 46 . So there was a long courtship.

What they have, are clean consciences.
I was watching this movie with someone who knew nothing about the movie or the mafia. As soon as the gunmen apoear at the tollbooth she screams 'carlo set him up!' 😂 i mean this is sooooo easy
But Michael didn't watch the movie.

Sonny had a genius for urban guerilla warfare. He managed to fight the five families to a stalemate. They had to eliminate him
But it was planned years in advance. The placed him as a long term asset .
The way his abuse of connie stopped just after sonny die . Thsts the key
Do we know that the abuse actually stopped, though?
@@robertbusek30 yes in the novel it discussed in greater detail. Before sonny even with vito and camellia.
As soon as sonny died and when Michael came home , Michael made friends with him , and brought him into the business,
In the book the vito owned the street all the houses outside the main house , Michael and kay in one , Tom and his family in another.

It would have made Carlo the slime realise if he continued the Corleone family would become resentful & suspicious that he caused sonny's demise.

My two favorite books the Art of War and 48 Laws of Power was exercised greatly in the whole Godfather Saga. Great video
I like your videos of the 48 laws of power
Agreed! This guy has always been the king of examples, when it comes to the L.O.P.
As Brett Maverick once said...."There's no such thing as a friendly little game of cards."
there's a deleted scene where he gets strangled to death by Clemenza after he gets into a car. It's in the Brazilian Portuguese dvds.
That scene was deleted? Not to offend "delicate" viewers?
It was never deleted. The windshield kicking scene has always been iconic.

I learn new things everyday on this beautiful master piece watched this movie over 50 times currently reading the book 85% done this is pure golden then book is so amazing! Well detailed
So the initial abuse that led to Sonny’s beatdown of Carlo wasn’t part of the farce?
No. That abuse was just Carlo being an asshole. No motive behind it

Thank you for the introduction to Giodarno Bruno. A very interesting character and someone I will study in future.

I will survive for decades like Vito, I'm a Filipino and i grew up here since i was born and raised. Culture here was totally different, but to answer the question i will last until i get old and retire like my grandfather did.
I see there are some scenes that are not in the remastered film. Where can we watch the original film?

@lancehuffman2393 it couldn’t have been a coincidence that Sonny was killed on the parkway after hearing that his sister had got beaten up again. It seemed like the gunmen were prepared to take out a large number of men and not just Sonny.

Who was Carlo dialing on the phone when Michael walked in? Someone posted earlier on one of these podcasts- Carlo was calling his mistress to tell her he wouldn’t be coming over and would be delayed.
Yes, in the book he was talking to one of his girlfriends. He was right about not coming over.
You think there’s any significance in the fact that when the situation that led to Sonny’s death happened his mistress called and said she wouldn’t be able to make it and then when it was Carlos turn He instead called the mistress saying he wouldn’t be able to make it I feel like there something to that
@@TheVillainBlackH All I can realistically pull from it is coincidence. Maybe Puzo was inferring that many of Carlos' problems were tied up in his awful habits.

Everybody knew Sonny had a temper. The Turk called up and told Sonny to control his famous temper. Notice that Rizzi sounds like Pazzi, the family that challenged the Medici family.
Brave family
Misdirection is essential, equal parts Machiavellian and Sun Tzu.
Great video

Thank you team culture mafia for this amazing content this is not ordinary blog or video this is the real men strategy
In the Great Game it's not enough 2B ruthless.
One must be cunning, knowledgeable & patience.
The fact that Sonny didn't totally beat Carlo within an inch of his life was seen as a sign of weakness by the other families.
That's a possibility as the Italian culture especially the Italian mob culture could have deemed it as a weakness or something intolerable I guess!!
It's a sign of weakness but not in the way you think. Sonny revealed his temper is his weakness and unfortunately, this resulted in his doom.
Always thought he was planted to have a guy straregically on the inside of the Corleone family.
How did Michael know? Puzo nd Coppalo told him! :)
😂😂good one
These videos do tend to portray Vito and Michael as the greatest strategic geniuses to walk the earth.

INCORRECT! When Tom informs Vito of Sonny's fate his reply is, "I want ALL inquiries made."
You're wrong on this one, Steve. Vito does say "I want no inquiries made." Go watch it again. "All inquiries" makes no sense when put together with his next sentence "I want no acts of vengeance". Or Google it.
@@bradjohnson482 As my favorite movie, I've seen like 50+ times, I'll take your suggestion...a reason to watch it again.
@@SteveBerryhill I watched it again yesterday after verifying what the Don said to Hagen. 😁
@@bradjohnson482 Good man. I'm still watching it again. Thanks.
I remember when I first saw the movie that Carlo set it up. Wondering why they didn't kill him. I hadn't heard of the 48 Law's Of Power then. 😊
Carlo called Beating Connie"obedience training". smh
They kept showing Hyman Roth on here; Michael did play somewhat dumb with him, but Roth was no fool and knew how to play the game even better with the Rosatto brothers incident and the attempt on Michael’s life and Michael’s attempt on Roth’s life.
This is one of the few movies that I know, where there are no winners or people that in reality a person would want to be. Except as a put on🎉
@6:15 Giving Connie a hard time?
