@@robertbusek30most likely, but he could have had plausible deniability.. Hey Barzini is talking to me.. Him admitting it and bragging about it was his real doom
As mentioned, MG really only had this one scene, but he was so powerful in it. Volatile and emotional vs. Michael's ice-cold seriousness. It's about 50 years too late now, but I do wish there were more scenes with Moe Greene; he radiated such a dangerous charisma here. He simply misread the Corleone family's power, but so did everybody at this point in the story.
Pacino’s eyes did all the acting here: 1) Michael edged Moe to confirm whether the other families are actually undermining the Corleone family. 2) Michael came to protect his brother and get him back. 3) Michael came to do business and determine whether Moe is supportive of the Corleone family.
If Moe had been smart about "keeping Fredo in line," instead of slapping him up, thus insulting the entire Corleon Family, Moe would have contacted the Don and asked him to deal with Fredo.
Roth and Greene were Jewish gangsters. This point is mentioned more than once in Godfather II. The war between the Corleones and the other families in NY would not involve Roth. Roth was more of a business partner of the Mafia as a whole, not a war time ally of any particular family. I think one of Greene's remarks to Michael shows that. He says something like "The Corleone family doesn't even have that kind of muscle anymore". Greene is close to Roth. Would he say that to Michael if Roth and Vito were allies? I don't think so. That's the kind of thing you say when you aren't on anyone's side, you're neutral. I think Greene's mistake wasn't in indulging his ego, although that didn't help. It was the same mistake everyone else made- he underestimated Michael. The truth was that the Corleones DID have that kind of muscle. Greene, like Tessio, made what was superficially the smart move. He bet against Michael. I think Greene hesitated before leaving the meeting with Michael because he thought that maybe Michael didn't actually have full authority to represent the Corleones. Fredo make it sound that way. As soon as Tom confirmed Michael was in charge, Greene left. By the way, that's yet another indication of how useless Fredo is. He didn't even know what was going on in his own family.
Nice analysis and I really don't disagree with anything that you said, but I think you complicate things too much. Poor financial performance can get any person fired in a regular company. Stealing money from your investors will get you in even more trouble. Insulting your investors even more so. Moe Greene's behavior could have gotten him killed in a regular street gang beef. Behave like he did against a major Mafia family, even if it is weakened, is playing with death. The crazy thing is that Moe Green could have just sold his shares to the Corleones and moved far, far away. But his ego wouldn't let him do that. Then he revealed his thinking directly to Corelone and indicated that he wanted to do business with the other mob families. Upon top of that defended his decision to hit Fredo, who was not only the elder brother of Michael, but also a made man. Moe Green might as well have shot himself in the head. He was a dead man walking.
@thabomuso2575 I agree, if I was Moe, I would have apologized to Michael and put together an offer that would have allowed him to live. He overplayed his hand and took it personally....two great lessons from this wonderful movie.

Yea. The Bugsy Siegel assassination most likely had nothing to do with the Flamingo or the mafia. Its a well known fact that Bugsy was a wife beater. His and Virginia Hill's relationship was no different. He beat her ass up bloody on the regular. A lesser known fact is that her brother was a first lieutenant WW2 bonafide war hero who single handedly killed more Japanese soldiers than cancer. A lesser known fact is that one week before the murder dude walked into a club right up to bugsy and calmly and clearly threatened his life over the domestic battery endured by his sister. Strangely enough exactly 1 week and a freshly beat up Virginia Hill later a lone shooter armed with a US army issued M1 carbine rifle strolled right into Her back yard and fired shots through a back window instantly killing Bugsy. In cases like this the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Sounds like Fredo was living the life in Vegas banging cocktail waitresses two at a time , as Carmine, Jr likewise was in Miami fixing Wet T-shirt Contests. Interesting parallels between the two in their respective families, as both were direct Kin to powerful bosses of a Family but seen as kind of the less respected black sheep. For example: Tony Soprano referred to Carmine, Jr as “Brainless the 2nd” and Michael told Tom that Fredo was “Weak, and Stupid.” Both were kind of sent out of sight/out of mind for a portion of the Sagas. However, Carmine, Jr was at least somewhat respected and useful as a mediator in times of discord. And perhaps he wasn’t as dumb as he let on, at least having the self awareness to see where seeking the throne would eventually end.
I wish it went deeper and as recommended, used fewer words. Everything was very obvious to me and I think to more people than you realize. I'll watch 1 more to see if I missed anything before deciding.
Aslo if you readthe excellent book, fredo did not wnat mike to come out to vegas . His jealousy was made apparent there and exacerbated . Fredo knew he s be a low man on the totem pole very soon and lose his playground . Fredo needed moe. He mentored hima nd trianedhim although he never reapected fredo really. Nobody did for real. Moe was both thieveing and losing money in business . He was saying f michael corleone . Yep. All of the families had some money in moe' s casinos as well . Moe wanted ot paly them all off each ither . He d stolen ALOT ok and was barely afloat then. He lost huge money and borrowed and borrowed
I personally think the actor playing the roll of moe green was not cast properly, from Roth telling Mikel that him and moe green were running molasses and moe telling Mikel he was chasing cheer leaders he was already a we’ll establish gangster, the actor looks too young. They should have cast an older actor!
Being a fan of gangsta movies, when I went to Vegas several years ago, I stayed at the Flamengo Hotel and Casino. I was unimpressed, its old and outdated, never staying there again.

Still to this day that Financial aspect of why Bugsy was killed doesn't add up. Them killing him because he went to L.A. and got popular and a little bigger and more important makes more sense.
I think it has much more to do with him and Virginia hill stealing mob funds than anything
Roth use business to take it personal with Mike about the moe Greene death
I talk to barzini
Joe was a smart guy, he was in a good position. Moe picked the wrong boss, maybe he just didn’t like the Corleone family and believed they were being downsized. He bet on the wrong horse and lost.
Moe sided with barzini that's why corleones wanted him out.
Is The Godfather based on a real Don and Family?
where do I get my power?
I wish it went deeper and as recommended, used fewer words. Everything was very obvious to me and I think to more people than you realize. I'll watch 1 more to see if I missed anything before deciding.
I have a friend who actually believes mo was a real person 😂
Your friend probably thinks the orangutan was a good president and still is president. 😂
Nothing personal its strictly business in the world of mafia simple
How are there 31k views but only 93 comments?
Enough.
Never liked Moe Green but you basically telling me the dude was a psychopath yet if Moe Green was Psycho than Mike was what ? a monster ? Lol
Was nothing like my granddad.
So he wasn't a moron?
😮
There was a real Mo. His last name wasn't Green
2 guys both Lansky lieutenants who ran Casinos in Vegas Moe Sedway and Gus Greenbaum.
Michael was way worse than Moe Green .....Moe was an innocent man
I wouldn't say innocent...
He made his bones while Michael was dating cheerleaders. That doesn’t happen if you’re innocent.
He was a hitman for Murder Incorporated
Being a fan of gangsta movies, when I went to Vegas several years ago, I stayed at the Flamengo Hotel and Casino. I was unimpressed, its old and outdated, never staying there again.
I kinda liked moe Greene. But he was a 2 timer going to other families discussing business. You don't do that sht.
