The fact that it's 2020 and we're still talking about this incarnation of the G-man is a testament to how amazing this show is and it's contribution to the franchise. We can say Zilla Jr. is not the real Godzilla all we want. But there's no denying it. Junior earned the name. A worthy successor to the King.
But the Animated Series those 2 Giant Mutations like The unnamed Giant Bat and The King Cobra they are different beyond those 2 Ancient Titans from MonsterVerse: Camazotz and Nozuki/Warbat Snake.
Zilla Jr. was a good sucessor for the Godzilla name. It trade resilience for speed and intelligence but could still take a LOT of damage, he only showed true weakness against poisons and other bio-chemical attacks. Even mind-controlling it was difficult. And it's learning capabilities were somewhat closer to primates or octopus.
Did you know that the Zilla in Final Wars is the only one of the iguanas to be called Zilla? Apparently the first two are still called officially Godzilla.

If I remember correctly the studio didn’t want to have to negotiate with Toho for the rights to use other monsters in their show, so they revamped several of them into beasties. Quetzalcoatl is clearly based off of Rodman.

Also who would've guessed that when that lone egg at the end of the movie hatched that such a cool show would be born. Favorite monsters: Godzilla as number one followed by Komodithrax as number two. Zilla was the whole reason I was introduced to the Godzilla series. He may not be as powerful as the original big G, but what he lacks in durability he makes up for in speed, agility and intelligence. Zilla is essentially the Titan sized equivalent of a Velociraptor and he deserves to be respected.
I think a lot of the series' monsters had callbacks to original Toho kaiju. The trash-eating nano monster is like the mirror of Hedorah, the armadillo is like a stand-in Anguirus, the robo-yeti references both Mecha-Godzilla and King Kong/Mechani-Kong, the cicada clearly has Mothra/Battra influence, their version of Nessie resembles Manda, Cyber-Zilla calls back to Mecha King Ghidorah, to name some of them.
The animated series was really good. Slightly underrated Imo! Favorite monsters in the series. The Giant Bee Queen, The Giant Bat, Komodithrax, The Huge Rats of New York (lol) and Robo Yeti.
I like the Dragma the most, not only did they boast an amazing design, but apparently they were so deadly that not even the existing Kaiju of earth could defeat them, eventually becoming the dominant lifeforms on earth Truly amazing creatures, if they were to ever be brought back they could be a great man made adversary for Godzilla and Co (don't even have to alter their origin that much, it works in any version of Godzilla)
@Zandeel Remmington it's not about being unrealistic, it's that your over complicating it, the Dragmas are fine as is, they served their role, their not individuals their a horde and thus don't have to have variants especially since their only in one episode, if the Dragma story was made into a arc then maybe we could have gotten other tyoes, but as they were it was fine

Fun fact; the mechanical yeti from Godzilla TAS is a shout-out to Toho's King Kong movie, in which the giant ape had to battle a robot duplicate of itself, Mechani-Kong, similar to how Toho had Godzilla fight the robo-clone Mecha-Godzilla.
If I remember right the aliens in the Godzilla series started off as human researchers that got infected by alien DNA. As the series progressed their actions, personality, and bodies gradually transform until the became those ugly looking bastards bent on wiping out mankind.

I wish this show had not been cancelled. It would have been amazing to see a Zilla Version of King Ghidorah, not as an alien but as an Earth based organism.
I picked up the entire series at work around 5 years ago when we were still selling DVDs (at a craft store, for some reason). I adored this series when I was a kid. The movie planted the seeds for me to get into the original Godzilla, even if it took over a decade for them to sprout in 2014. This show was one of my childhood Big Three, the other two being Mighty Ducks and Gargoyles. I'm glad I have two of the Big Three in my collection now.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the 98 movie, but I did really like Godzilla’s design in it (and the movie’s grown on me over the years, to be fair). This show gave me that design but in a monster that earned the “god” in his name. GtS Godzilla is honestly one of my favorite Godzillas. I wish I had a giant lizard puppy like him. This show had awesome monster designs, nifty characters, and interesting (if sometimes goofy) plots. It was great and remains one of my favorite 90s cartoons.

Godzilla the Animated series was the GOAT! It paid homage to the OG Godzilla in many ways, and after one watches the recent Godzilla KOTMs one can tell how. I had the crazy idea that this Godzilla would mutate further and his design would start looking like the recent Godzilla as well as obviously increase in size. The recent Legendary Godzilla and this Animated one are my all time favorites.

Being a Godzilla fan since as young as 2 years old, I watched Godzilla Movies in VHS and Laserdiscs as a child. When Godzilla 98 came out, it was quite enjoyable for me, not gonna lie, although it sure was not masterpiece. Then came the animated series, airing in my local tv channel, and by GOD, It was one of the most AWESOME cartoon series ever, and i missed it till this day...
Thanks again for another cool video. There were a few of the Monsters in that series that I think might of been inspired by other Kaiju movies. Like the giant turtle, maybe Gamers, Mecha Godzilla, mechaniKong, Rodan, and maybe Anguriious. Thanks again

How I'd have done a proper GTS series finale: Cameron Winters teams up with the Tachyon aliens, helping them create an army of Cyber-Godzilla/Chameleon hybrid creatures. Zilla Jr (whose been juiced by radioactive stimulants courtesy of Colonel Hicks) boards the Tachyon mothership, unleashing a nuclear pulse to destroy it, sacrificing himself to save humanity. Nick & Audrey tie the knot, settling down in Buffalo to raise a family (he resumes teaching at a university & she becomes a best selling novelist). Randy & Monique tie the knot, settling down in France to raise a family (she becomes Phillipe's successor and he becomes a technical consultant for the French government). Kraven & Elsie tie the knot, setting down in Scotland to raise a family (they study Nessie's species). Colonel Hicks & Mayor Ebert tie the knot, settling down in Canada to raise a family (had to be four for four). :P

I like to think of Dragma as their take on Destoroyah. Given it was the only one in the series to actually kill Godzilla, I was expecting it to fuse together into a big one by the end of the episode or something like that xD.

I saw all these monsters in the animated series and realized they actually served as an homage to the old school Kaiju as seen in the 1954-1975 films.

The cracklers my favorite! Such a neat design, and it was just so wrathful in its behavior! The dragma are a close second!
Looking back on it now, the Robo Yeti was basically the animated series equivalent of Mecha King Kong.

Godzilla the Animated series was the GOAT! It paid homage to the OG Godzilla in many ways, and after one watches the recent Godzilla KOTMs one can tell how. I had the crazy idea that this Godzilla would mutate further and his design would start looking like the recent Godzilla as well as obviously increase in size. The recent Legendary Godzilla and this Animated one are my all time favorites.
They need to reboot this Godzilla cartoon because seem pretty cool to watch

I can agree, the first Godzilla movie I ever saw was 1998 and I loved it, it’s what got me into Godzilla and your channel, so can we all give Zilla Jr. a round of applause

I recommend you watch the Men in Black cartoon made by the same team who made this show, I guarantee you'll stop thinking 'cartoon' and 'for kids' go together. It's a little demeaning, not gonna lie.

Being a Godzilla fan since as young as 2 years old, I watched Godzilla Movies in VHS and Laserdiscs as a child. When Godzilla 98 came out, it was quite enjoyable for me, not gonna lie, although it sure was not masterpiece. Then came the animated series, airing in my local tv channel, and by GOD, It was one of the most AWESOME cartoon series ever, and i missed it till this day...
This series and the animated kong series were both really cool!

I grew up watching the animated Godzilla series Saturday mornings on NBC in the early 80's. I loved it at the time but it didn't age well, like most early 80's animation lol

How I'd have done a proper GTS series finale: Cameron Winters teams up with the Tachyon aliens, helping them create an army of Cyber-Godzilla/Chameleon hybrid creatures. Zilla Jr (whose been juiced by radioactive stimulants courtesy of Colonel Hicks) boards the Tachyon mothership, unleashing a nuclear pulse to destroy it, sacrificing himself to save humanity. Nick & Audrey tie the knot, settling down in Buffalo to raise a family (he resumes teaching at a university & she becomes a best selling novelist). Randy & Monique tie the knot, settling down in France to raise a family (she becomes Phillipe's successor and he becomes a technical consultant for the French government). Kraven & Elsie tie the knot, setting down in Scotland to raise a family (they study Nessie's species). Colonel Hicks & Mayor Ebert tie the knot, settling down in Canada to raise a family (had to be four for four). :P

I like to think of Dragma as their take on Destoroyah. Given it was the only one in the series to actually kill Godzilla, I was expecting it to fuse together into a big one by the end of the episode or something like that xD.
