Most people have a reference point for what a machine war is (Terminator/Matrix), the Butlerian Jihad on the other hand sounds like some butlers turned into religious extremists and are shoe bombing buses. Which one of these two conveys the point inside 3 seconds more succinctly?

I guess you could make the argument that the wars went Machine Crusade and then the Butlerian Jihad happened with both being "the machine wars." But since the changed Paul's Jihad to a Crusade I think the change is obviously motivated.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why for the last two years or so, I keep getting the “Dune” universe mixed up with “The Foundation” universe… Watching this video, especially hearing The Machine Wars was fought against AI, I kept waiting to see Brothers Dawn, Day and Dusk to show up with Demerzel. I know “The Foundation” is based of Issac Asimov’s writings, and “Dune” is Frank Herbert’s works, but I can’t help to think Herbert took a lot of inspiration from Asimov.
You could say that, yeah. It's often thought of that "Dune" is like a response to "Foundation". What I think is funny, is that the Foundation show feels like it takes some inspiration from Dune too, which I'm sure got influenced from "Foundation". I haven't read the Foundation books yet, they're on my bookshelf, but I've read how the show and books are different, and the Foundation show does feel a lot more like Dune to me. I love both for their own reasons, and a show like this would definitely fit in between.

It's really the other way around. I love Game of Thrones, but so much from that series has been inspired by Dune. From the houses, lore, world building, main character arcs and even character names.
It's a pretty big part of the books that after the Butlerian Jihad technological development really stalled. That's one of the things that Muad'dib unwittingly changes.
I say this is like the "Star Wars Effect" where everything is pretty much universally the same. I haven't read the prequel books to Dune, but technology does evolve later, but it has to do with complications with political/religious powers--which could also explain here why not much has changed.
The Corrinos rule for 10k years, even in the og books. This isn't particularly realistic, and rather a way to demonstrate how the empire was in the midst of stagnation.
That is very much by design. Because of the war against the thinking machines, humans made it a point to keep their current technological progress at a standstill for millennia thereafter so that no thinking machine can ever be developed once again. Progress was instead focused on the development of the human species itself through the Bene Gesserit, Mentats, Guild Navigators, etc.

Also they clearly don't understand the Butlerian Jihad. It wasn't a war of man vs machine, rather of men vs other men who owned and controlled the thinking machines. The quote by the reverend mother Helen Mohaim incapulates it best, "Once men gave their thinking over to machines, in the hope that it would set them free, but this only permitted other men, who owned the machines, to enslave them".

@@MrKumfo To say they don't understand it is pretty disengenous. People can dislike the Brian Herbert and KJA version of these events, but they've been around for like 25 years at this point. With how little interest Frank Herbert had in further exploring the world before the first book, they were obviously going to draw from the prequel books.
