I saw in a another Dune gameplay that you can drop "Poison the reserves" operation togeather with "Cease fire" when an enemy is attacking your village and the AI isn't smart enough to retreat and will just stand idle while their supply runs so low that they take health damage. Essentially killing the enemy without having to deply any military. You'll just have to wait until the enemy actually attack the village before you drop the operations.
It helps a lot if you get attacked on two or more fronts or have to deal with rebellions togeather with an invasion.
That is going to have to get fixed, the operations last 2 days and take 2 days to ready so you can lock an army in a constant poisonous ceasefire until they die.
I've seen a common complain that this game doesn't _feel_ like "spice wars" and what helped me to fix that was to set the map size to 'Small' instead with the AI difficulty on Harder+ and 'Sandstorm' activity to 'High'. The AI is really good in this game targeting your spice producing regions and trying to mess up with other AI's as well. It really *feels like* it is a spice war on DUNE with these game settings.
Large maps really seem to be exactly the opposite and pretty easy, just like you said Potato.
@@MuppetLord1 and to learn the game.
For me Fremen are the strongest faction right now. Fastest expansion since they get a ton of authority. Strong economy which you showcased pretty well and amazing military. They can get a lot of boosts for their units, allowing normal Warriors to handle Landsraad Guards and lets not forget the Fedaykin. With right setup of districts you can get +2 str / +4 armor. Add Fedaykin special ability you will casualy run around with 10+ armor. I had a lot of fun liberating whole map with an army of Terminators.
Fremen have only 2 real weaknesses. Smaller one being lowest influence over Landsraad resolutions, which can screw you over. The bigger one is lack of airfields. You really need extra units spread around to deal with rebellions and multiple attacks. Thumpers sometimes wont be enough, especially on large maps.
i just made myself some nice food, and you decided to upload this right now? Absolute legend :D
The Shai-Hulud temple makes people work harder? Faster! Faster, or we'll feed you to a worm!
Man I LOVED watching all these series, this game looks very fun. Would absolutely love to see even more
I've been eating up these videos, they're so good. I'd love to see you take another shot at the Smugglers on hard difficulty with everything you've learned so far.
I'm curious how well this strategy plays on a normal sized map where I assume one would be attacked earlier and more often.
I really like this game. I also kinda want to see someone go beserk and conquer the map militarily
From what I've seen in these videos series is that the Fremen are overpowered right now. They were always second place on Hegemony in all the games, and extremely aggressive killing another AI in 2 of the three games they were the AI. And when Potato played them he won way easier than any of this other games. Partially that was experience but I think a lot of is was that there was no Fremen playing against him. They aren't super out of wack but they need to be tuned some to bring them in line with the other players. Also the rebellion mechanic is generally to strong, there seems to be no way to play around it besides military which is poor design in a 4x there should never be a major component of the game that has only one solution.
Otherwise it's a very good and balanced game a big step up from Northgard, which I found OK but pretty janky especially at the start of the missions.
you might be right but i think a lot of it has to do with the game being singleplayer only rn. I think laansrad mechanics are really underutilized, especially with ai limitations. Players are far better equipped to exploit the Fremen's glaring weaknesses than ai. That being said, they are certainly strong but perhaps a tad more vulnerable to early game aggression when compared to factions like Harkonnen.
@@nathanbuckley808 Femen may not have access to the Lansrad but they can weaponize it against their enemies. It would be pretty easy to predict how the other players would vote set up a rebellion that would hit someone pretty reliably then use a intelligence mission to give them as second rebellion and then also attack and free one of their provinces. And you could repeat that very frequently. Early game aggression would also be really tricky in pvp since you will always be engaging with an inferior troop number, might be able to good mid game timing pushes but those are risky with how early the Fremen can start causing rebellions and you don't want them to focus you. I think if they can provide some way to negate rebellions maybe a intelligence mission (if that isn't already a thing) then you can prep for Fremen aggression more easily, then you just have to deal with their overpowered units.
@@Daniel-Star even with the intel councilor, punishing motions doesn't stop them from passing. If you posture yourself defensively and stack on water and manpower motions, and target rebellions as well, you can really hamper their aggression and maybe even completely wipe it out. It happened in my playthrough. Had 3 motions set against me and a rebellion. Put me into negative water and forced me to deal with a rebellion and raids without the ability to resupply my army. Stretched me thin on thumpers too. I had to reload.
Great job potato..I dominated as the fremen as well.. lost as smugglers like you as well lol..I don't know what it is but the fremen are very good if played right.. thank you for making these vids.. bump it up to insane with everyone now
This was what I intended my win to be but ended up swerving into governorship halfway by accident. But I fully agree, solid economy and allied sietch bonuses are the Fremen way. That was my initial intent but you have given me a lot of good food for thought.
Smashing knowledge like that harder than I did was good. You leant right into spice efficiency how I tried to too. Loved it. The game I would play if I wasn’t so flighty and easily distracted.
As ever, keep up they spicy work.
13:50 and there is your answer for wether or not you should wait with choam shares. if that building is planned, wait for it.
a little bonus, when you're "smaller" the houses will go for you less
The pronunciation of sietch works either way but the “correct” one according to the audiobook/recordings is “see-Etch” also from the same source Fedaykin should be pronounced “Fed-dye-kin”
The Spice must flow
@POTATOMCWHISKEY You can walk up to villages with units before attacking you don't have to worry about sand worms and can engage with melee immediately.
I agree about the towns being a bit too generic. Maybe add a toggle to game start seed generation where towns can have more bonuses and maluses? +1 manpower or +3 solari, and I don't even notice it. Cave of riches with processing plant is broken. 60 Solaris? GG.
If I drink enough melange coffee, will my eyes turn blue too?
15:30 uuum .. exactly the opposite?
they're 10% faster, have worms and a unit that can supply you in deep desert.
3 mobility buffs no other house has
Agree, plus you don’t need the upkeep of an airfield with depleted your fuel cell supply early game.
Bless the Maker and His water.
I think tech is the OP factor in this run. It allows every other playstyle to be unlocked so much faster. From growing eco, developing mil, or engaging in intrigue/episonage, tech gives you everything. I would be curious to see a max tech focus run and what it gives and what faction does it. I believe the combined passive tech steal from the smugglers gained with focus tech will be the OP combo.
I think harkonnen oppression works on research so they would probably do well
Fedaykin are actually insane, I feel Freemen could be the best militaristic faction as well just based on how stupidly good their unique unit is
Choam shares should be buffed. Also I think that there should be dependencies between tech trees or moving into one tech tree should become at a higher price.
It’s pronounced “sea tch” , at least on David Lynch’s version of Dune. In Villeneuve’s they have been changing some of the pronunciations
i think u can combine Sietch raids with rebellions, like they get rebellion on one side and at the same time Sietch attack from another and also u can tag along with sietch fremens)
Why would Fremen need spice silos or harvest spice like the other fractions? I don't get it. The fractions a bit to similar.
Yes I would like the firemen to ignore spice, like they ignore the water on the pole
Agree, this and the fact that they can vote in Ladnsraad at all, the fact that they have to conquer villages, that they can build ornithopters....
Fremen should not be a playable faction, or should be completly different from the others
So, back to the topic from Governor loose on You game. I've just had a insane diff game. Atreides was hard fav in Landsraad, got most of chairs. Then Gov position landed to vote. I've been prepared with my influence + Smugglers probably put vote against bounty. We outvoted them 780 to 640 ish. Victory denied.
What I mean, You kinda have to look at past voting, how many Atreides won (gain Landsraad fav due that) and prep upcoming elections to prevent AI from winning. I admit - Harkonens with influence flow always visible is kinda handy in that situation.
16:59 There is a spy mission that disable all the engine in one region inculding aircraft.
Nice one Potato. I hope to see you do more Dune videos.
Maybe they could increase the Hegemony win requirement when the difficulty is increased. It would also be great if there are missions that can directly decrease hegemony or hegemony production for other factions.
Just noticed that the Fremen and Smuggler character portraits don't have the blue-in-blue eyes. That doesn't seem right. I thought that just living on Arrakis gives you enough exposure to ambient Spice that you get the blue-in-blue eyes.
let's see a large insane Atreides game, full diplomacy value
I wanna see more of these games.
Potato I don't think saving up spice when the price is low is a good move because you have like a "bank" of spice where you stockpile it and you only pay taxes from this "bank" and when you sell all of your spice it doesn't sell it from the "bank" it just sells all the spice you are producing right now and just stockpiling it leaves you at the end of the game with like 3k spice just laying in this "bank" because the taxes are only like 700 spice
It generally is a good idea to stockpile spice when the price is low, he just overdid it by a lot because his spice production was ludicrously high and he set it to 100% stockpile for an entire period until the price went up - and also it's not just stuck sitting in the bank waiting to pay taxes, he could have traded most of his spice stockpile to other factions for solaris and won slightly faster
I feel like the larger map makes it too easy to go all economy and no military. I'm not sure that playstyle would work in a smaller map.
Wow I thought you are going to lose again to the dune governorship. Good job
This time I have waited with watching for a 2/2 of Fremen. This game is VERY hard. I played two games so far ( over 2 hours each ). Long games but both lost to economic loss and not enough military to kill them. Too many things happen later in game at the same time and AI is doing 100x in the same time
The devs already nerfed the Freman 😭😭. Before I got a chance to try this
Why does Potato's introduction animation have blue glasses?
Blue glasses help protect your eyes from eye strain from looking at a computer screen for too long. I believe.
They’re the Eyes of Ibad, a side effect of spice addiction
Because the spice is flowing
As a dune reference
Thanks for the video.
papa chome, cher!
So, do you get to have your military units riding the giant worm when you play as Fremen?
Interesting that you can end up winning while only owning like a quarter of the map.
I gotta say, craft workshops as they currently exist seem extremely underwhelming. The return seems not worth it? I think you'd be better off spaming research and gaining advantages there then getting the slow trickle of hegemony
Agree. Workshops should give at least +4 hegemony, or make it a tickling instead like 0.2 per second in the game, since a day takes what...full 30seconds on normal speed?
Any idea how important the 8 gb minimum ram requirement is. My current set up is antiquated at 4 gb. Will it work coz or do i need to upgrade my setup
I'm not sure the success of this playthrough was due mostly to the Fremen. You were just on a roll!
The AI's were far behind, you got more spice, more other productions and could get away with a bare minimum army without military tech upgrades for most of the game. You did benefit from high authority. Harkonnen might have matched spice production but at the cost of lots of rebellions, needing more military. This science, spice, choam route might work well also with the others.
I intensely dislike the absolute Hegemony score victory. Theoretically you could beat a player by one point, or have almost no land and defeat a faction that conquered most. Getting 50%, 67% or 75% of all the factions combined score could be nicer imo.
I think a Hegemony score based on fluid numbers might be an even better measure of power: % land owned, military, spice market, Landsraad, Choam, Sietches. So you can lower other factions score as well as increase your own.
I don't know who that is, but that is not Liet Kynes.
I think they need an extra thing going on with the military aspect of the game.
4:40 and you waste about 400 extra income by lacking trade treaties. (my no1 recommendation when you sell of loads of spice)
Sick :D
Please accept my 🥔 offering to the YT Algorithm diety.
🥔
Fremen was the easiest play through lol. I think i like the blue faction more but they are all really nicely idealized
Can You make movie how to play this game to win ? :D
Is this game really good?
what the f happened to dune ? any one played 1992's dune ? tanks , turrets. my god
This is not the successor to the old game, and it was never supposed to be. It does its own thing and it does it well, no obligation to be like the original.
"Seech" - compare Ukrainian січ, which seems to be the source
