    In this review we will take a look at the Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 scope. We will discuss the eye relief, glass quality, objective, turrets and more. Thank you for watching.
    Diamondback® riflescopes completely change the rules when it comes to “you get what you pay for.” The solid one-piece aircraft-grade aluminum alloy construction makes them virtually indestructible and highly resistant to magnum recoil. Argon purging puts waterproof and fog-proof performance on the checklist and the advanced, fully multi-coated optics raise an eyebrow when crystal clear, tack-sharp images appear in the cross-hairs.

    I have the same scope, and I completely agree with your point on eye relief. I installed a picatinny rail and mounted the scope further back to enable a more natural shooting position. Then the scope would barely hit my eye every time I shot unless I kept head in just the right position. DEAL BUSTER. However, there are a lot of people who shoot it without issue.

      @@Bullets4Bucks the problem with the rail setup IMO, is if you have a top loading rifle, it makes it difficult to load from the top. Also..whats happened to me with a rail is upon ejection of an empty, the rail can get in the way and actually fall back into the receiver area and jamb your next cycle...ive had it happen

    I have an crossfire 4x16 50mm 30mm tube that real clear better than my diamondback tactical 44mm, for hunting I don't like first focal plane for obvious reasons. All my Vortex have a tight window box that is a pain, All my rifles with vortex scopes are half inch shooters
    with my hand loads and the Vortex track really well when sighting it in three shots is all needed to have them in a one inch circle.
    my half inch shooters have the diamondback tactical, the crossfire 4x16 50mm 30mm tube going on a future hunting rifle. I have the 700 magpul 5R 308 and SPS varmint 308 that I put in the magpul stock, I was an H&S fan boy but magpul shock me in a good way, some of the groups from the SPS varmint three shot more like quarter inch groups. My SPS did not like Hornady 178 ELD match, I read up and the long bullet will not stabilize in a 1-12 twist, I like the 1-12 for shooting light bullets like 110 grain hp. very accurate and have friends that use them on hogs, it is a cheaper bullet. I been a 168 MK fan for 28 years now Hornady 168 ELD with a 523 G1 and a good hunting bullet I am sold. 308 168 match loads are around 2,500 fps at 800 yards that 1,400 fps the ELD mushrooms at 1,300. Kill an elk at 500 yards with a muzzle velocity of 2,500 fps you bet, lungs or 3-4 inches from the spine upper shoulder shot, 1,760 fps. Here the catch lower velocity for big game more penetration and expansion all the energy is dumped. I am no fan of the magnums over doing it
    I have no desire to shoot 700 - 900 yards, stay down wind and stalk them. it is a game the last hunt had a deer come from behind me
    and shorted at me, talking about having egg in your face.

    Did you go to a sporting goods store to buy your scope? You rell them what rofle you have and caliber and they will recommend certain scopes for you. I would not have sold the scope to you because the style of scope is not designed fot a long action rifle. Did you adjust the eye focus? I actually for the price point your looking for would recommend a crossfire scope. The crossfire series actually has more variety of scopes to better fit your needs on a varity of rifles.

  • @rough-cutoutdoors4335
    @rough-cutoutdoors4335 3 года назад +2

    You need to take off the pic rail. It’s backwards and that’s why the scope cannot be adjusted further back. The tail on that pic rail should extend past the bolt shroud when you have a long action like that. It’s simply set up backwards. This is why the bell of the scope is contacting your pic rail. Just flip it around.

    I have had 3 of these diamondback 4x12s (1st one purchased probably 6 or 7 years ago) and the eye relief is the only problem I really see with them. The glass is average, but they hold aim perfectly so far for me. These would not be good for high recoil unless you want your eyebrow bloody, however for 6.5 grendel or 223 AR15s they are a solid scope. The crossfire 2 might handle recoil just as well and offer excellent eye relief and equal or better clarity.
