Yeah as a South African I can say with confidence that skiing, ice skating and anything to do with snow are not my idea of fun things to do. I'd have been happy to sit on the side with a whiskey and just watch everyone do their thing. Give me the bush or ocean and I'm happy.
$20,000 for treatment!!! So glad I live in the UK where rebuilding my broken bones, and my wife's damaged ankle that needed long surgery is free. Hope you recover very soon. Great news about the campaign in Mexico and that the team can carry on themselves.
Sitting here watching this with a bit of a smile. When you live life, sometimes life happens. I tore a knee lateral ligament 10 days ago. I've got a matching leg brace for your moon boot... LOL. Heal well....
You silly! I had the same break, but needed surgery, healed and then went skiing! Good thing you won't have to use crutches on the boat! Sending you healing vibes!!!
Very sorry to hear about your accident. Hoping your recovery goes as expected. Try and enjoy the enforced rest, you may need it, as you’ve been through a lot these last few years.😘
It helps to imagine the warm sand and surf around your toes laying on a sunny beach south of the border. Cheer up, Chuf misses you and the fun stuff down there.
We had heard the news thru the cruisers' telegraph. Hope you are improving and being patient with the recovery. Your cruising mates (Hot Stuff, Bella Luna and Leilani) exchange places as we head north. Look forward to you catching up
Wow. I know that country well, and it is so odd to see you in that venue. I have definitely made tracks in that powder. Totally unexpected to see you there. Tough break, but it looks like you should heal well and quickly without little souvenir screws. Great to see that it didn't slow you down much. Tough Aussie!
I was 10, right foot was pointing backwards. Never skied again. Sonny Bono, Natasha Richardson told me I made the correct decision. Ahh, Australia! Spent a week in the Queensland outback and a week in Sydney in 1976. Used to be a nice country. Good luck on your healing. I hope all goes well for you.
Hey Doc, join the broken leg club. What a bummer, hope your doing well. Mine is about done, but still a little wobbly, can’t imagine trying this on deck underway. Get well soon, my skiing days are over.
Hiya, I've been on elbow crutches for a few years now, I damaged both knees at different times but arthritis got hold and so now... The hardest thing was learning what I could not do, what? Learning I could no longer work as an electrician making TV programs and feature films doing power and lighting. You need both arms to carry light after cable after stand after lamp after... I now make jewellery, I can sit down for that. I hope you're back on both feet soon, stay safe, Steve...
52 years and never had a winter without snow.. if I get on a boat I will never see snow again, never mind pay to go see it. Heal well and get back to the boat!
I had the same injury and had a metal plate with screws inserted. It took a whole year to back to full strength and flexibility. Be very careful using the crutches near wet surfaces. Get well soon 👍😀
Well hello! Your accident happened not far from my home base, sorry to hear of it. I broke my back at 21 years old cross country skiing and have broken both legs with surgery to follow. Neither time did I have insurance and was faced with the same cost to pay out of pocket. Lucky for me the hospitals are pretty ready to negotiate a much smaller payment in full for cash, so much so that what I paid was less than what I would have paid for deductible copay and the years worth of premiums. You’re far better off without pins and all that though, they serve as a recurring reminder of the incident whenever I bump the area just right.
Had a similar break playing baseball, seems like I was back at work in 2 weeks, but that was long ago, do recall running everyday after the cast or boot was off to get the muscles back in shape.
Dang! Tough “Break” for Dr. Sheddy☹️ Luckily yer probably gonna Heal up OK(Youngsters usually Do) Hoping ya can move on soon enough😊 Continue to Stay Safe & Enjoy when ya can😎
I used to live very near a ski area. There used to be a line going outside at the emergency room with people waiting to get in. Skiing might be fun but is isn't worth the grief of broken bones. Or just stay on the bunny hill.
Hi Kathryn, Our patrons and donators are really what make the work we do possible, so as always donating to help the animals helps us keep going too! Otherwise, all of the well wishes and kindness have really helped me get through what is a tough time, so thank you!
Skiing without insurance, wow that's wild! Off piste through trees, catch a tree root and that could be a spiral fracture so I guess you were sort of "lucky"! Great skiing shots though, get well soon.
I was only skiing green slopes with the toddlers don't worry, but still managed to get unlucky. Jim and his siblings are the ones tearing it up, and thankfully they can get insurance! In hindsight... maybe should have sat it out
My brother got a spiral on the green slope. At least it was just a break, those are pretty much cost contained. You where next door, Eastern Washington. I suggested you start caring for Indian res. Doggies.
I have often thought that green slopes can be more dangerous, as unskilled skiers concentrate there. My wife, an experienced skier, also broke her leg on a green slope, by getting wiped out by an out of control beginner.
Sorry for the break, although it sounds like it could have been a lot worse. Got lucky in a bad luck situation ?. Hope you are healing well. P.S Throw the shoulder crunchers away and get fore arm crutches. Better mobility, stability and you don't have shoulders that feel like sore limp noodles after a couple of hours. You can also hang light non bulky items on the hand stems in a bag. Only advantage to shoulder crunchers are if you stand immobile for long periods which I doubt your go get in the middle of the scrum mentality would allow anyway. Hugz and healing thoughts your way.
The only skiing I have done is cross-country. It seems to have a lower injury rate. But at over 65 I am not doing big hills anymore. The health care payment system in the US is not fun to deal with. Looks like Jim is taking good care of you.
you poor girl!! when you break your ankle skiing how does that happen does the ski catch on something and twist the ankle?? did they have to set your ankle back in place? like the bone? thats a cool looking splint and you use crutches very well have you used them before? hope to see more of your videos about your ankle! thks
Yep the ski likely caught on the snow and then twisted my ankle inwards... ouch! Hoping to release an update soon for everyone but so far I am healing well! (it was non displaced so didnt need any setting!)
glad your healing am sure it hurts!! ouch!! you are pretty good on those crutches look like you,ve used them before? so are you going to get a cast? what color you going to get purple and white would be a good color. can wait to see next video
With snow skiing you need to learn how to fall, that's how ski racers get away with it at high speeds without getting hurt. What you do in that split second before a crash landing determines if it's off to the hospital or just a walk away.
So sorry for your setback. But I would take bone over tendon/muscle issues if given the option. We had a clavicle fracture in three places in this ski-town family earlier this month. It happens to all ability levels. Personally, I've given up the sport for good. Not from fear of hurting myself, but from fear of being hurt by others. Half the world has devolved out of the capacity to navigate the physical world safely any longer. Looking forward to watching Jakara Anthony at the Olympics in a few weeks. Saw her live, again, at world cup last week.

Jim's a good man
Get better soon, the animals need you!

Oh no! Sorry that happened. Hope you heal up quick and completely.
At least you broke your ankle "perfectly"! Speedy recovery. I'm sure the "being still" will be the hardest part.
Sitting here watching this with a bit of a smile. When you live life, sometimes life happens. I tore a knee lateral ligament 10 days ago. I've got a matching leg brace for your moon boot... LOL. Heal well....
That was my thoughts exactly, life happens!
Get better darling hope you get better we all miss you but your in great hands love always Freddie ❤️😀👍
Hoping for a speedy recovery. Excellent video of the skiing.

You can sail chuffed up the snake. And anchor at Lewis and Clarkston.
Save up and get that AIS, San Juan Islands are fun.

Be glad to see you back in warm weather!
Healing thoughts!
Great scenery. Ouch

you doing just fine. Get well soon.
I've lived in a ski area for 55 years, but never been daft enough to try it. Too old now thankfully. Hope it's a short recovery for you Sheddy.
My, my, my, Sheedy, I hope you make A Full & Speedy Recovery Miss.
Oh you. Sorry that you broke the slope. OUCH! Not good. Take care and get well soon.
Oh noooo 🙏🏼🙏🏼 feel better

Sony Bono died on the bunny hill
Yeah well its one of the MOST fun things you can do on this planet.
Hugs girl! Need to find out how we can assist you!!

ugh, sorry...not sleeping normally is just the worst!... here's to a speedy recovery
10:08 looks like my van🤓. Do you see what it takes to slow Dr. Sheddy down. Stay Chuffed Sharaden👣🏂
If you get a walking cast you could heal the final stretch on the boat! Get well soon!
Get well soon. Sorry to see you get injured. How though? boots not tight enough?
Also cheapo insurance, is available if you're registered at a college. Even remotely attending, just FYI future reference.
That skiing was beautiful though
Hang in Sheddy! If you havens broken anything, your not pushing hard enough.
Cold, snow and ice bad.

Glad you're ok as can be! Going to be hard for YOU not to be moving and active!!!

Bummer on the broken leg‼️ It would seem that you are a pro on the ocean.....perhaps not in snow.🤭🙄😊 Might be a lesson here 🤷🏻♂️🤪

Linda broke her ankle the same time you broke yours! Must be something in the air...
How long in a cast or boot

Looks soft!

Poor bady. Need to stick to the soft water.
Like 4 very nice dear
If you think travel insurance is currently hard to buy, wait until you are over 70!
Get better Doc. Looks like lots of powder that day. Tough conditions for many..
Broken ankle and foot in a cast for 4 months

Hi Sheridan, sorry about your accident.
Still, for someone who wasn't born on the slopes you have a pretty badass stem christie
Thanks Marty, Jim thinks I have steez and 'good lettuce'
Show more your cast
What a silly Billy you are .heal soon.
You looked good on skis. You seem to know how to do everything. Although I guess you got a little too close to a tree along the way.
DOH, enjoy getting spoilt.
Hopefully you get better I am the son
Is that Ruffwear gear I spy?
Bummer. 20,000 freaking dollars. America you never fail to be so backwards. Glad you were able to get the cast option
Keeping up with Nike, eh?
$20,000! Yikes. $250 for me.
What the FUDGE! Was this really necessary? 🧐🧐🧐.
Get well soon ❤
