Awesome stuff. I do have to say that 3D Coat as a voxel-based sculpting software can punch holes and create very complex geometry unlike Zbrush. Now I'm learning to combine Houdini and 3D Coat for the best artistic result since I don't want to go full-on procedural route due to lack of knowledge and time constraints. Thank you for sharing this, super useful.
What version of Houdini are you using? I am in 19.0.383, and there is no option for Visualize Pieces to make them colored. Also my voronoifracture node has only 2 inputs, not 3
My volumes look broken in the viewport. I'm following your steps exactly up to 10:30 but my volumes look crap in the viewport, especially with a light it becomes a flickering mess with black pools.
2:42:35 - Anyone else has problems getting the volume sample gradient method for SDFs to work in H19.5? Volume Noise Node works but seams really slow, I was wondering, if a custom solution would be faster...
On 2:11:09 there is a mistake - you had to normalize both tangent and bitangent, then add them to each other and then normalize once more, without any mulconst. In that case it would be really only edge noise. But edge noise alone does not have much sense.
amazing and very interesting. Nice to go deep and explain everything. It would be perfect if we could avoid earing the sound of the keyboard, it's stress full and reduce the understanding and concentration .... Thanks in advance ...
Thank you for sharing so great content. Can you please do something about the keyboard sounds captured by the mic. It’s extremely disruptive and very loud.
29:35 are you sure the problem is there's no data? This sounds a little off to me. It rather feels like ISO value is an inclusive value of the densities(and above) that should be included in the surface, therefore at 0 you include the whole space to infinity which cannot be displayed.
@ 0:10:35 anti alias (flow) noise returns value between -0.5 and +0.5. Not -1 to +1. Saber seems to know a lot however was not able to explain things out in a clear and concise way unfortunately. Also this class was clearly not very well prepared. Sorry to complain a bit. It's free stuff I almost forgot.
I can't get passed the part where you have the sphere with the VDB and Volume VOP without it using up all my RAM. I have 16GB. I'm hoping upgrading to 32GB will fix this.
And if 3 hours is just an intro why spend time on fog volume if houdini makes SDF by default? No stepping, no visualization problem, why someone should care about fog while making rocks?
Sounds like you don't need this then? He mentions in a presentation that using this approach prevents intersecting geometry. I'm just starting out with Houdini so maybe I don't totally understand, though.
@@8thlvlMage I'm pretty new to Houdini too but I messed around a bit with noise .... it's very easy to cause overlaps when you apply it to geo and you have to do a Geo => Volume => Geo conversion step to fix this anyway
Getting stuff like this in a free course, unbelievable. Thanks for sharing such deep knowledge.
Glad you enjoy it!
Thank you so much man this really kicked started me into making my own rocks and rock formations. Thanks for making it free for us poor people :D
WHAT?! am i dreaming?? omg this is so much helpful and valuable tutorial Thank you!!
I'm so glad it was helpful!
Okay... you are a serious genius. Thank you so much for this information.. I'm learning an incredible amount.
incredible amount of knowledge : thx man
that skill level..... awesome :)
Thank you for this! this was a great! Looking into more of your tutorials!
Glad it was helpful!
At 38:25 you need to increase the 3D frequency in order for the color to display.
You are amazing! Thank you so much for teaching!
You are so welcome!
pure gold, thank you! subbed

zbrush can't create complex geometry now?
This is incredible!! Such a fun course! I subscribed, can't wait for more!
I see houdini class I subscribe!
Your setup for showing precision around the 30 min mark is kind of genius.
Incredible value thank you so much !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Forever grateful..Saving up for masters of the sea course..
brilliant tutorial, many many thanks.

Fantastic and workflow altering tips. Thank you for sharing your experience!
Awesome, thank you

It maybe due to negative value, clamp the noise inside volume vop node, that helped me.
Super tut

REBELWAYYYYYY WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
50:30 you could use that type of surface as the bark for a pine tree :D

Очень классно, спасибо большое за гайд
Спасибо!
What kind of viewport shading / materials are you using on your volume ?

Appreciate the feedback!
Are you even using Houdini if you are not smashing your keyboard ? Great tutorial!
really good.

We've already bought a new mic! :)
@@Rebelway glad to hear that, and again thank you so much for the amazing content and courses.
Great tut Saber, thanks for sharing. curious to know if you know a easy way of transferring geo mask to those volume and use them as mask?

Maybe you use the Assemble SOP because the old Voronoi Fracture SOP doesn't create the name attribute by default? The newer one creates it.
Why did you have to increase the sphere to 100? What if I require the geo to be a 1 unit square geo? How to i work around that?
nice
1:54:06 after "facet", the data of "rest" lost.
My AAFLOWNOISE wont render correctly, it renders partly with black and white spots inside the sphere.
i had a look on the Rebelway website but couldnt see the full course this is from. Is it still available or coming around again? cheers
We are actually releasing this course for free over the next few weeks. We'll create a RUclips playlist so you can watch all of the training in order.
@@Rebelway great to hear! look forward to working through them
Is there a benefit of using density over surface?
I use Houdini 18.5 and my results are completely different from the beginning, did they change the handling of the vdb?

Good luck with the upgrade!
I won't know how you change you are parameters position
1:19:18 mee too man, mee too
the esc button in Houdini never behaves ha.
Are you all CGI padawansl from India?
The contents are good but the video is unlistenable due to keyboard noise ... are you using a hummer to press the keyboard?
LOL right!!
really interesting tutorial! but please don't put your mic and your keyboard on the same table!
