That was also right after he said Athena won't offer a second death's defiance, and then after skipping it he goes for dionysus because he thinks there is a deaths defiance from him

Oof, writing was probably already on the wall, but that pivot from his build to Festive Fog really screwed him.
Yep. He's got confirmation bias with it. He sees all the ways it helps him but can't see the benefit of casts that can help him even more depending on weapon and build
to be honest, yes it screwed him, however using a heroic festive fog in that final Hades fight and the last satyr tunnel could've probably helped him immensely due to its ability to go behind terrain and deal lots of damage.... but the egg just didn't use it well, he kept throwing all of the zones in quick succession at the same place.... not how you should use that cast at all.

I don't know, Zeus cast is passable with the aspect, but the fact that it can get lodged in random enemies makes it worse. There are a lot better options. (Festive Fog is not one of them though. lol)

He's not interested in Fake Lore, can't blame him tbh. I've listened to every single current line of dialogue (except a mystical 900 something unheard Hades conversations) and they are thoroughly not worth your time as a viewer, although the strange homoerotic sexual tension coming from certain Achilles lines is peculiar

Egg you ruined your run when you took Festive Fog. As you said yourself, Festive Fog casts do not get lodged in enemies, so they can't be knocked out of enemies. The lightning casts being lodged in hades and being knocked out was going to be your biggest source of damage sustain against Hades.
Why would you want festive fog for that aspect, it doesn't even get stuck in enemies...

Yeah Festive Fog seems really good with the Hera Bow Aspect but definitely not the Poseidon Sword Aspect.
Mhm.... Something like Aphrodite's cast or maybe Artemis would probably be your best bet? Just something with high damage that you can get a lot of mileage out of spamming.
@@Avoncarstien Athena's cast with that sword is amazing, it hurts a lot and defends you, Poseidon's second best since it clears a lot, Aphro's is good for the weak but Artemis' crit I've found happens too rarely to be useful.
because when NL try something that work once, he will exclusively try to reproduce it.. in hades case its festive fog
With your most recent mirror purchase, you want to stack status ailments. You actually got the option to grab Zeus' epic 'jolted' ability which would have spanked with your poison dash.

Also NL: *Hasn't been talking to people at all through the entire time he's been playing, and thus hasn't been working down the conversation counts to reasonable levels*
Admittedly, it's because he's the sort of man who has zero interest in lore. Which sucks, but it's his prerogative. But being shocked that there's a lot of conversations available when he's been playing for ages, presumably unlocking more conversations, without ever talking to people? That's the true insanity.
if you are dealing most of your damage with something that does lightning jolt is a good pickup
NL: Knows and has registered that trading boons improves them (seemed to think it leveled them up rather than noticing the rarity is always improved, but still)

I think my favorite little detail in the game is the 'Cerberus Defeated' message. I don't think I've seen the same one twice.

You have to realize The Egg doesn't read. That's the same reason he took the second chaos boon for +1 casts rather than +34% damage on his casts. Since the number of casts doesn't matter because he gets them back immediately, and the side effects were way less bad, it must be that he didn't read. It must be.
World splitter is 90 base damage, the regular attack is 25. So say you got 150% from boons to attack, your regular attack is buffed to 62, while world splitter is buffed to 235.

Mhm... All % damage bonuses in Hades apparently stack addatively, so the options that actually change the flat base damage can have an incredible impact on your damage output.
World Splitter gang rise up. Just had a 19 minute victory with full on Artemis crits and shit, Hades was getting hit for 600 something.

Why in the name of Zeus would you take festive fog over Chain lightning as a cast if it doesnt Works well with your aspect, Nl?
Simple. It is higher up in his personal tier list. Which doesn't really take any other boons or weapons into consideration.
He got good build with it once, so now he takes it even if its shitty with his build...

This is a really good game. First roguelite since Isaac that got me to play it longer than just testing it.
Thank God he didn't get festive fog as a cast power. Since he would have had a hard time dislodging the cast from enemies... That NL. Plz never change XD
Well, Posiedon aspect has a cast damage boost, so it wouldn't be a TOTAL waste.

You have nothing unlocked on 0 heat with sword. Consider that. :)
Privileged Status and crits are the only multiplicative damage bonuses. It's amazing.

You weren't making good use of the bonus damage to enemies under a status effect. You should have picked the boon that added the jolted effect to enemies hit by your lightning.
Tbh I thought it was the obvious choice out of the 3 options, have no clue why he would pick the special option

He underestimates the Double Edged Daedalus upgrade because he still doesn't think dash spamming is a viable offensive build.

NL, The hearts next to NPCs isn't max hp. It's afinity.
Also you really need to learn change keepsake more often and what is a good order to.
Question for the more experienced: Does egg overvalue Chaos? I feel like he is.
I'm not the more experienced ypu are searching for, but I'll say his zane meter probably goes off whenever he sees the gate, and I like that.
Well, kind of depends, Chaos can be insanely powerful and normally you try to get at least one early chaos but skipping a deadulus hammer for it seems pretty bad. The game is quite good though at giving you the hammers in case you skip them, in order to give you at least two by the end, so maybe taking chaos was justified there but i feel like he shouldve at least given that some thought.
Chaos is definitely towards the top of the list, especially if it's at the beginning since it's a permanent benefit and it's more rare than most other items you'd be able to get later on anyways
You can buy Chaos gates from shops, so you shouldn't take it over a hammer or a boon you need for a build.
He actually used to undervalue it. Rather than overvalue the chaos boon, egg simply undervalued his Cast Ability. His Cast was the only thing carrying the run at that point. Rather than the extra shot (which WAS quite huge in relation to his run) the cast dmg % upgrade was the safer and better choice for him considering where he was at the run.
So ultimately, the chaos gate wasnt the wrong call. It was his chaos boon choice which was.
The run fell apart way before NL took festive fog y'all. Towards the end, he was just getting more and more reckless with his strategy. At the start, he'd throw casts, dodge around until he could special them out, basically weaving damaging and dodging. By the end, he was just straight up brute forcing it.
Have you considered a lockable cat flap for your recording room?

I'm not so sure, troves are generally not worth the time in my honest opinion. It's always nice to get your health capped off if the 3hp per room isn't enough to cover lava damage (definitely the case with +800% Trap Damage), and if you're decimating runs with a good CC weapon then I can see going for some gold; but especially early, where they're most likely to actually cause you some trouble and lose you health, the return is kinda ResidentSleeper.
I don't recommend buying a future trove from shops in absolutely any situation.
And this is why the sword is better than the shield. The aspects are just better

Ryan, can you explain to me the math behind taking 4 damage for using a cast to kill a bunch of enemies or taking 60 damage while trying to kill them?
Wait, the chaos thing was just "take some damage from cast"? I was just listening at that point and assumed he was actually locked out of it...
You should never *plan* to take damage or choose unavoidable damage over avoidable.
This game gives you incredible ability to completely ignore all damage with relative ease, especially if you're willing to give up attacking during a boss phase etc. Personally I'm happy that NL is focusing on improving himself as a player, or at least running with the mentality of being a better player.
(Also no guarantee that the cast would do enough to stop him taking 60 damage on top)
Y'all are getting mad at NL for taking Tipsy Shot with Poseidon Aspect, despite the fact it still gives Cast Dmg +10%. Considering it already has the highest base damage for a cast, I think it's a perfectly reasonable get.
Hell, even I take Tipsy Shot on Poseidon just for the extra cast damage. Get an Epic or Heroic Tipsy Shot + some levels added to it and that extra % is going to do you wonders.
Dude....why do you not kill the skelly spawners on the ground in the hydra fight? You just run around the spawners when you could kill them, and then wonder why there are so many adds on the map.
@NorthernLion Can you please do us all a favor and do a few things to improve your play? try picking up: the 3rd death's defiance, more base damage rather than casts, try picking up things like "your special applies weak", attacks do X against armor, and crit effects. the way things are now you're going to be in trouble when the Furies and the Hydra boss fights change.

Loving the series but oh my god that last fight was so bad
Mistakes and things that NL didn't realize:
- Elysium is a floor where you generally have to play slower because you have to wait out some of the enemy's attacks and changing in can cost you up 100 hp per room.
- In the Elysium boss fight stay behind pillars so the spear throw doesn't hit you in the "first" stage. I know thats pretty hard but it saves you so much dmg. The closer you are, the harder it gets to dodge the spear throw.
- You should swap the god keepsake each floor so you get to choose the first boon unless you seriously need something good from that god. Otherwise, swap to other keepsakes.
- In the Hades fight, you have to kill the mobs that create the waves. They are too hard to dodge and each wave is 20 hp lost. Especially if you have time while Hades is invisible.
Egg please...no more festive fog runs...at least for a little while...you've taken it every chance you get...it actually lost you this run...
I wish the game would take his cast more. It would make him have to learn to doge. Also this man over values chaos they are very good, but not auto takes, at the end of the day it is just another boon. If he takes Chaos over double boons that could get him Duos, then he is just hamstringing himself. Some days I think NL just wants the game to play itself. Love the series though, it made me watch RUclips again.

Fighting the Hydra, once again mentions how he's NEVER died on the boss.
Literally the previous video was a death on the Hydra fight.
I mean sure it was because of the timer heat setting but still.
