He’s changed forever what’s possible in Bluegrass music and still honors the traditional players that came before him, all while still in his 20’s 👍 Turmoil and Tinfoil next!
Billy was brought up on Bluegrass, but took a teen rebellion turn to heavy metal. Turmoil and Tinfoil showcases his experience with metal chord progressions and tempos with the jam band soloing. Kudos to his band in that song.
I would say that credit goes to bands like Yonder Mountain String Band, Leftover Salmon, and The String Cheese Incident.
They were bending the genre well before Billy.
hes 30
I am an Uber driver. There was a Billy Strings concert in town. He sold out 3 straight nights. His fans were having a blast!!! Lots of hippies under the influence of 🍄 & 420. Since that show I have taken a deep dive into Billy Strings. Love it!!
I attended a Billy Strings concert and I can only describe the crowd as a mix of camo and tie dye held together by the music and a lot of herb being smoked. It was a blast!
Unfortunately Billy grew up around drugs but he decided to leave home to pursue his dreams. He now sells out concerts worldwide. That song was about a friend of his
Who told you this ?
He sells them out? How big are the clubs?
@docdarlin5491 billy has. He also helped his parents get sober so that's good. This song Is about his friend though
@@kachoww5981 He’s won Grammys…
@@kachoww5981 Well, sounds like someone is jealous. Who is paying to come see you? All it does is take one person to move a life through creativity. I think you never stood up and performed in front of anyone.
Dust in a Baggie was my first exposure to him about a year ago!... He's awesome!
Check out "Turmoil and Tinfoil" if y'all wanna see Billy tear it up on stage. The guy's just an absolutely insane guitarist.
That and "Meet me at the Creek" live!
They need to check out some Marcus King too
Great video and Summer time with Marcus king
Hell yeah, good call or his cover of Nutshell!
I LOVE THAT SONG!!!!
That guy in the back was at every college party in every college town in America in the early 2000's.
Green shirt guy is legion.
He also plays hockey in letterkenny
Barefoot Brad
Barefoot Ben is what Billy said his name was not Brad
@@coreycochran8011 yes, my bad!!!!
Bustin' out the Bluegrass!! ... Billy is one of a number of incredibly talented young emerging Bluegrass Artists (Watchhouse, Molly Tuttle, The Punch Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show). Going to see him play the Greek Theatre with his band next month.
Greensky bluegrass
Well I would t say old crow is young and emerging but I still love them
I wouldn’t call Punch Brothers young and emerging either, but Sierra Hull is a younger act that deserves attention.
@@JoeMama410 Agree … they’ve been around quite a while, still young though very seasoned. And Sierra belongs on any young and talented list.
Kitchen Dwellers
You just opened another pandoras box. His Red Rocks concert is amazing. The set with Jackson Brown is great. The kid is talented.
As a guitarist myself since I was about 13, 47 now Billy is one of those guys that rarely come along. Every genre of music from blues, rock, metal and blugrass there is that one guitarist or bass player that created their own style and sound and unlike many others and Billy is one of those guitarist today, a gem in the rough for sure. Another guitarist to check out in today's music I would recommend is Tim Henson and his band Polyphia, different genre but another like Billy. And congrats on the little one!
One year younger than you, and have been around musicians my whole life and played myself, I totally agree with you on Billy.
That kind of guitar playing is a combination of inborn talent, hard work, and years of playing with other musicians, picking up licks and making them your own.
I am glad you guys found this. He's a very interesting character, his dad is a well known guitarist. Great channel, cheers!
Billy is from my home town of traverse city Michigan... it's crazy how he blew up! He would play all our local bars ... people would line up and it was always always packed ... girls dancing on tables and just such a fun show ... he would ALWAYS talk to you in between sets or after shows... back then he played with a mandolin player named Don Julian (I think that was his name lol) ... once Billy blew up, he left that dude behind and just exploded ... I mean, we would see this kid playing on front street down town traverse ... then one day he's blowing up the bars ... next thing you know you can't even see him unless you travel lol ...Northern michigan misses him ... looking back, it was unbelievable that we had this talent and almost took him for granted ... at the end of the day, I'm very happy his art is reaching so any and that he is experiencing such success ... note to all that reads this ... when you meet a local playing the bar scene... take the time to get to know them cause one day they may disappear into the big leagues and you will miss those experiences when the person is swooped up by the big leagues ... awesome you reacted to this lol ... l seen him play like 30 times and then he was gone lol... no local legands have come since ... but I take pleasure knowing I got to watch this brother come up
I saw Billy at the Horizon book store.
I'm happy for him but still... dude ditched his homie just like that?? That's cold.
He is not. I’ve been friends with bill for a long time. His older brother was best man in my wedding. He’s from the village of Muir and went to school with me in Ionia. He didn’t move to TC until like 2012.
Maybe so, but he was here for a long time... he definitely played on the street ... I for sure saw him a bunch of times as he was coming up ... he was here at the same time he got famous ... I mean, I'm sure your telling the truth ... but none the less, TC still claims him
@gazu. yup! He left him in the dust in the baggie lol ... I'm not sure what happened or why, but one day he had a new line up and you know the story ... out with the old...
First time I saw this video I was hooked. The speed and perfection of his fingering those cords alone is beyond what’s natural. And the way the words fit so effortlessly into the melody and the natural way they flow together linguistically and then you hear a back woods hillbilly singing about dust in a baggy and not trains or drinking or anything of what you’d expect to hear? I think you were spot on when you said a prodigy,,
Love this kid!
Billy is a real thug. This is the perfect representation of country hicks. As powerful as any hip hop representative
Seen Billy perform live in Scotland this past December. Phenomenal guitarist and a great concert!
Billy Strings is a star-- at the beginning phase of his career.
Billy and Bela Fleck playing ‘Bolderdash’ together is pretty awesome.
Bluegrass/newgrass is so enthralling to watch (and to hear, of course!)
I love Billy Stings…and Greensky Blue Grass
WOW Awesome to see y’all trying out Billy Strings! Please check out more of his stuff.
Billy Strings is awesome.
This guy is actually an amazing Bluegrass guitarist.
Just went to his concert in Tampa a few days ago, dude is amazing
Now you've got to see a recent live version of him and the band pounding this out. Next level stuff!
Thanks for sharing 👍
I am so so glad you two covered this. I flew all the way down from Boston earlier this week to Tampa Florida to see him play. The Tampa show is on RUclips. Amazing talent.
We did a gig together in Indiana before he got signed. I can disclose no details about afterward haha
Billy is a great guy and deserves everything he's gotten!
You owe it to yourself to see him with his full set upon stage at the Opry!
Billy Strings & Post Malone Covering "Cocaine Blues" written by Johnny Cash..really good
Damn son! That was awesome.
This is good! Nice ole bluegrass (fast twangy country music, normally with banjos, fiddles, and mandolins, etc). Mountain music, Like Grennsky Bluegrass, Cody Jinks, Foggy Mountain Boys, Del McCoury Band, Charlie Daniels Band, OSbourne Brothers, Earl Scruggs, Bill Monroe, The Infamous Stringdusters, etc
"Watch it Fall" is another good video from Billy Strings .
Billy Strings is amazing. Old time bluegrass with some modern swag. I was introduced to him playing “If Your Hair’s Too Long” with his band. Made me laugh and knocked my socks off. Billy Strings reminds me of Doc Watson, in the best kind of way.
Great to see you both on the couch together! Watching Billy on *HIS* couch! 😂
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 heck yeah 👏👏👏👏
Local boy made it big! Lansing, MI's own! One of the best bluegrass guitarists I've ever heard.
One of the best flat-pickers to perform on stage.
Billy Strings is a PHENOMENAL musician! He has taken bluegrass music & fused it with all kinds of different genres with a touch of brilliance thrown in. One of the most innovative musicians out there in these times...all raw & very real!
Billy's a MetalHead on the side..
Love Billy Strings
You should try The Milk Carton Kids
Watchhouse ... You should try Watchhouse (aka Mandolin Orange)
ruclips.net/video/sCmJ1yeEK1A/видео.html
Great reaction! More Billy Strings.
The video version of Billy with his band doing this song at the Grand Ole Opry is a must watch.
Billy strings is a gangster musician.
Turmoil and Tinfoil. The ONE WHERE HE HAS THE FUNNY ROSE COLORED GLASSES ON.
My favorite modern Bluegrass band is still Carolina Chocolate Drops. Leaving Eden via live set still almost makes me cry, absolutely beautiful. 😈🤘
You guys just hearing Billy Strings?
He's amazing, so is his daddy!
This is top of the line bluegrass ❤
we got our tickets for Billy and his band this July in Boston ! get tickets if you can !
We saw him and the guys this past fall in DC. It was great!
Hope you have an awesome time in July!
Talent. Period.
The Billy rabbit hole is deep. Maybe try Turmoil and Tinfoil (with the pink glasses) next - another story of his early life.
He rymed daddy with baggie. And it works.
His dad is called Terry Barber, that is where the talent comes from, awesome reaction, and greetings from Holland 😊
Saw him and the band tuesday night at USF
Gotta do some WHISKEY MYERS - 'Broken Window Serenade'. Good one for Brad to dig into!
Glad yall are foing well and getting alot of subs. Love the music and reactions. Keep it up❤
You have just dived down a real deep rabbit hole! Billy is fantastic - and he is only getting better. Hold onto your sneakers and enjoy the Billy Strings ride!
hard to believe he is alot better now , he was a kid in that video
Yep, that's talent!
As soon as this song is over I'm grabbing the quest from the guy by the television. The legendary guitar pick that lets you play like Billy Strings.
Good old flat pickin'!
Grammy winning young artist
Green shirt guy is really the enigma we know Billy is a beast....
This is the first time I seen this song reacted to. Awesome
YES
Oh, y'all have to dig a little deeper into Strings. I've seen him live once in Oxford, MS. Standing room only! He and the band are *crowd pleasers*! Wonderful music! ♥
I said it before I'll say it again....Tommy Emmanuel - Initiation. A instrumental about a young Aboriginals journey into manhood. It will absolutely blow your mind and I guarantee you have not seen anyone play a guitar like he does in this song.
Billy Strings is a big beautiful rabbit hole 😎
“Its got all these extra notes” haha what a great way to describe this genre lol
Okay, this might just be my favorite reaction. Ever. 😂
Just knowing this is not done in a studio, just a video recording with one guy and one guitar, no microphone other than the camera microphone, and it sounds this good. That's hard to do. He does have versions with a full bluegrass band, he has a version where he plays with his dad and another guy. He does a cover of Train Train that has an a 10 minute intro that is kind of wild to watch. If I am not mistaken I think he played heavier music first. He is always doing live shows on RUclips.
My favorite version of this song is the Grand Ole Opry version. This version is cool too, just because it is just him and a guitar, you can't get much vulnerable than that.
I heard this about 4 years ago and love it. Whatta hoot!😂😂
You've GOT to hear him do "Meet Me At The Creek". Freakin' Awesome!
Amazing voice amazing song.
Hes a beast on the guitar
seen him in December in NOLA and last month in Mobile. For sure the best concerts I've been to!
Springsteen Jungleland......one of his best
best flat top player in this generation. plays with all the jamm bands as guest guitar. did austin city limits this year
First time for me, too😆
@Brad & Lex - I've been waiting for you two to get a Billy video. This is like the OG, but he has better versions of this song out there. I'm a big Billy fan and here is the quick "notes." He began playing guitar at a young age, his stepfather taught him to play. He was playing with his stepdad and 4 years old. Billy has been quoted as saying that he learned to play the guitar through bluegrass, but he learned to perform in death metal bands. I've seen him live 18 times, and counting, but he also really shines on stage. Live performances are where its at and I really would love to ask you guys check out "Meet Me at the Creek" (From the Ogden Theater) - This shows you the fans, the show, the musicianship and the performer that he is...oh yeah, while you watch it, remind yourself this is what new age bluegrass is all about. Enjoy! - ruclips.net/video/PBep_kSkXRw/видео.html
Away From The Mire should be your next Billy Strings experience. The live version!
He's playing arenas now. A 23 y/o girl I work with said it was the best concert she had ever seen. That's what you call flat picking. His rival, and possibly lover, Molly Tuttle is the two time world champion flat picker. She has a new album Crooked Tree. The title track is awesome.
Billy's partner is Ally
Won a Grammy too
@@alimac1469 him and Molly were roommates for a while. Maybe I'm just projecting.
Absolutely a prodigy!
Check out the band Greensky Bluegrass if you enjoy the genre. Billy Strings still has a lot of great songs too.
Love greensky
Billy had a hard life growing up. He got an old soul.wise beyond his years.
🤣He said Hell yeah!!❤
Fuggin love you guys!
I am so excited for this artist. I've been waiting for a bluegrass artist to come along. He is the future of western music imo. He has a hard rock back ground actually, but he always played bluegrass with his dad, so he's refined that skill. Rumor has it his live concerts are next level. He's won a Grammy already.
And you're right. The thing that is sooo impressive about Bluegrass is that it hits on the same level of Flamenco guitar. Both art forms are from peoples who have been oppressed. The Roma in Spain and Appalachian peoples, they both go hard on string instruments. It's insane to watch the level of genius in the craft. ❤
Watch It Fall is another great song.
I'm subbed to Billy's channel him and his band are virtuoso musicians. He just released a video featuring Willie Nelson
Where he actually plays Willie's guitar " Trigger" should tell how much he is respected it's called California sober.
You should watch his story he had a rough life left home to avoid addiction or prison he said. Phenomenal guitar player fastest bluegrass picker I've ever seen ✌💞
His story is actually very interesting. How he came up and how he learned the guitar and went from playing for his friends in a basement to selling out arena shows. It's definitely worth checking out. There are plenty of youtube videos about his story at this point.
Love billy strings fuckn awesome!
Never heard of him but loved it.
He reminds me of those Chinese acrobats when I was a kid. They were perfect, and I knew at age 4, "Why I'm not gonna do "that" when I grow up."
Love watching your reactions to music
The way you describe and the music your listing too really is what music is all about ✌🏻
You have just opened Pandora's box!! Dive deep, he's great!
Gotta check out the spoon lady!
Billy is the real deal. He's up there with the greatest.
Im glad you did this guy he's top shelf for sure Taking water is another great song by him
That dude in the back is just itchin' to bust out the hackeysack!
Billy the Bada*s ❤ great reaction
Lmao you guys are too funny
Thank you very much...
Marcus King, and Billy Strings, great together.
