The Tom Waits influence is so evident in this song. And in my opinion, Mick is one of the few artists that could hold a candle to Tom. Well done Mick. Can't wait to get to some more of the live shows. Keep up the amazing work.
See our boy hold his sister near, until there in the clear …. whisper to your ear…. That one is going to heaven! ❤
Amazing lyrics
I can't understand that line. That one means our boy? or 2050, The son is sitting down. is the same boy? please explain to me, tks.
@@linli5292 Yes, same boy, but he's gone from "our boy" to "the son", so the narrator has changed, suggesting the father's passed (the son is "sitting down", taking over as it were, like the leaves), which reinforces the "only feeling" of "hav[ing] so much to lose".
"That one is going to heaven" is said by the mother in pride of how good the boy is for protecting his little sister.
It's a beautiful but heartbreaking mix of the appreciation of the beauty of life (finding your true love, having kids, being a proud parent) and the reality of impermanence ("the leaves are golden brown", "going to heaven").
I was listening to a song and this came on after it completely out of the blue.oh my god what a song.its heart wrenchingly beautiful.
This song never fails to stop me in tracks. Just beautiful.
Completely agree. A modern classic by a great artist. Beautiful lyrics, melody and voice.
God lord, isn't he magnificent.
2010 in boston town
the leaves are golden brown
we take the kids to town
to see the fair
big wheel is turning round
hear that homely sound
we're walking through the crowd
in the evening air
see our boy hold his sister near
until they're in the clear
you whisper in my ear
that one's going to heaven
You've no idea do you
what i'll do for you
to have so much to lose
is the only feeling
I ran around my time
I stood in every line
i couldnt stop my mind
from dreaming of you
and when i laid eyes on you
I knew that race was through
and when i spoke to you
I told it so
you said 'I think you're a fool
and I said 'i know you do'
but I'd run away with you
if you ask me nicely
You've no idea do you
what i'll do for you
to have so much to lose
is the only feeling
2050 boston town
the son is sitting down
its the only feeling now
''To have so much to lose is the only feeling''. What a love song.❤
Just class,no more words needed
Saw him live in Cork on New Year's Eve 2014. What can I say, simply brilliant. The natural talent of this guy is incredible.
great great voice, beutiful lyrics also. i love his music so much, it takes me too far away. #mickflannery you got a fan in dominican republic, me!
Jeez, people talking at gigs (especially ones like Mick's) drive me nuts. Went to see him in Dundalk last Saturday and it was magic - you could hear a pin drop! Amazing night - he was in top form too!
This song shakes my heart no matter how many times I hear it!
Got a chance to see him live for the first time during the summer.Twas savage! One downside though, good few people at it decided they wanted to listen to their friends blather on instead of the man himself.Never got that - why would anyone pay good money for a concert ticket and then show up and talk during the musician's set?Think it's downright rude!
they must have been deaf to not want to listen to this fabulous man! I went to see him 5 years ago and it was one of the highlights of my life
Annoying as hell that is ..it’s just becoming a habit for some to add to their status …these talented artists deserve better crowd 🎶
I don't buy many records these days. Bought a record after his show. Amazing artist
'What a voice - like velvet being crushed under a door...' great description
Why so little views, this song deserves 2 maybe 300 likes at least
Was trying to think of something to insightful/clever/witty to describe how brilliant this is, but realised no, this deserves better than anything I can ever hope come up with. So just listen to it.
simple, honest, deep, harmonious, soft and catchy... hope to hear him life sometime
a true genius everything he writes is just so honest and his voice melts iron.
And this is why music like this only needs a grand piano. And maybe a cello.
He sounds like diamonds and crushed alabaster floating in a magenta sea.
Still listening .
Still excellent in 2020 👍👍👍
OMG....what great lyrics he puts out!
what a voice !!! If bob dylan had a love child with bruce springstein , i think he would sound like this!!!! pure class!
Oh My. I recently saw a video in which he played with Jeffrey Martin. Now Mick has a new fan.

Beautiful tune. Great voice. I also love the comment below on him being an idiot by someone who can't spell Tom Waits. Magic.

👏💜
I know it's random but I can't help thinking of Tom Crean when I witness this genious perform, every now and then in this country we produce something very special!
Reminds me a little of Tom Waits.
well done, sir.
beautimous
oh!
Great bull
I am Sean flannery from Luton england.anny of us left?
That's the reason that murder is defined as an unlawful killing, because bastards who speak during a musicians set become targets of opportunity and it's a lawful killing. Especially when it's Mick's gig. Just don't make noise when getting rid of them! :D
reminds me of the song from tom waits - martha
@CAMIC67 Is there a date set for the new album?
@grampam17 ?
He is fine
Boston town? Ye mean Downtown Boston? 😊
Same thing.
Irladii już nie ma.
@EOD100 couldn't agree more! don't get the people talking thing. somehow it became acceptable behaviour to rabbit on at concerts, in the cinema....wtf! you'll know I want to hear you talk when I buy a ticket to go to your house and listen to your words of wisdom. until then how about a nice big cup of shut the f*** up!?!
Yawn
