god bless Ron. As a proud owner of a 7.3l every problem i seem to face, ( im only at 130k miles) he has a video for. Bless h is soul what an amazing man, may he rest in peace
I seriously miss this guy. I love watching his.videos, he so thorough and informative. He’s probably save me thousands of dollars over the last three years I’ve owned my 7.3.
thumbs down for real people come on he provides you with so much good information why on Earth would you ever give this a thumbs down. Not only does he provide you with this high-quality amount of information he's providing it to you for free. RIP
Rusty Wrencher , Can you answer me a question about replacing the fuel heater down inside underneath the filter, the kit that I have has two screws in it to hold it down !! the one coming out has no screws in it except approx the 3/4 holding down the Element/ stem ??? 97 f250. 7.3 l diesel !!
You are a Ford Diesel Master! Kind of like Mr Booth is with Ford transmissions. I have plenty of experience with the Ford diesels over the years at the dealership but man you know every little detail good stuff!
FordTechMakuloco I have a 2000 Ford F-250 7.3L turbo. It’s having trouble maintaining idling. I changed the filter in engine compartment. And it keep doing the same thing.
I have a 91 idi with the gpr clicking like ron showed in the video (when the key is in before starting.) So I replaced the glow plugs, but the clicking still continues. Any one else with this issue? Thinking about checking the wires the go to the plugs and the gpr itself. Your videos live on Ron! Still helping folks. Legend!
I bought my truck in ignorance. It had some small issues and I really wanted to ensure I didn't lose my investment. I had no idea what to do or anything about the 6.0 in general. His videos made it possible for me to save thousands of dollars. I felt like I lost a friend when I heard about what happened to him. I'm sorry for your loss.
Hey Ron, I own and operate a small diesel repair shop. Primarily heavy duty diesel but found myself turning away more super duties than I like, forced myself to take these jobs in and your channel has been much help many times. Thanks for sharing your tips and knowledge. Better than most factory training.
I was completely lost when I got three codes with my obd2 scanner, po673, 765 and 677. At least now I know where to start looking. I really appreciate what you do and how you help the average bear!
Thank you. I have a retired U-Haul that is hard to start. The relay clicks on and off. The guy at the U-haul sales that sold me this rig told me to just cycle the key a few times. Doesn't really work. If I plug in the block heater overnight then it will start. Now I know what's up and can fix it with the things you just taught this 54 year old diesel novice.
An 6.9 or 7.3 idi it’s definitely burned out glow plugs I would swap relay too don’t use off brand glow plugs in idi ‘s they will swell up break off in the engine cause all sorts of hell on ya 👌🏼✔️🤙🏻✌🏻
Being a ford tech a doing a TON of 6.0 glow plugs, I can say I personally have never had any problem other than the glow plugs themselves or the glow plug harness (plugs onto the glow plugs) I have never had the module fail for me or the pins spread. I always just sell the plugs and the harness if I get a glow plug code on the 6.0. I also always make sure to sell one whole bank of glow plugs because every time I only replace the one bad one, it comes in the next week with 2 or 3 codes for the rest of them on that bank. If I were to get one that ended up needing the module after that (which has never happened) I have a box of 20 or 30 good modules I could use one from... But like I said it has never happened
Ron, just want to say thank you for your videos, I worked for international for 20 years and now I have moved on to a different company . We deal with a lot of 6.0 (intl) . I bought the ipr air tool , cant wait to use it , lol . I get tired of having to unplug icp . I have learned a lot from you about them , lot different from classes from old job. Thanks and GOD BLESS YOU THIS YEAR.
I have 7.3 similar issues and I replace the glow plug control module. And didn't fix my proble. I'm going to check the wires now to see if I have a better luck.
Hi Ron....great video I often have to cycle the key on cold mornings to get the glow plugs up to temp to start my 7.3L. Is this expected? How do I test the air and oil sensors to determine if they are working as designed?
Hey Ron, I have a 2015 6.7 powerstroke. The high pressure fuel pump went out and we found metal in the fuel tank. Absolutely no def contamination or bad fuel. Should we expect engine damage from the metal? 3 injectors need to be replaced so far. Can the metal from the pump get through the injectors and damage cylinders, heads etc...?
thank you for putting this knowledge out there for some of the stuff that you do is awesome... but I do have a question... 05 F-250 6.0. my key tumbler will not roll back to accessories. with that, this truck was bought used and it did not have a key fob. watch videos could not set the new key fob took it to the dealer they couldn't set it. that's what I found out a month later it would not roll 2 accessories.. key tumbler causing both issues.... Thank you for the videos... Bryan
That’s a 7.3 glow plug controller on a 6.9. The original 6.9 controllers were a cylinder type screwed into the back of the engine on the drivers side. They were very prone to failure. Many have changed to the push button momentary switch option.
Thank for your great knowledge. What do I need to remove to take out the glow plug that is closest to the firewall on the driver's side and kinda under the aftermarket Hypermax turbo on my 1993 F-250 7.3 international Ford 4X4.
I just had my 2003 6.0 Bulletproof and getting a P0683, P0275, and P0281 yet not setting the check engine light. My SCT tuner/monitor finds these codes yet a regular odbii scanner passes the scan and finds no doc codes. Engine runs fine is there anything I need be concerned about. By the way great video!
Hi DieselTechRon, are you familiar with the International CF500 VT275 truck?....I 'm in a hardly need for the relays in the PDC of this truck...do you know where to get these relays/
Hey Ron, quick question. I have a 2007 f350 6.0 it has a bizarre problem that I can't find any advice on from the forum's. the truck likes to crank no start randomly. like as in it won't start now but it will start tonight might start tomorrow morning but will start tomorrow afternoon. the truck ficm voltage reads 48.50 the ICP reaches a little over 1500 when cranking as well. there are no codes or at least no codes my SCT is picking up. and there are no leaks that I can see on the driveway. please help lol!
I have a Ford Ranger 2.5 turbo diesel 2007 model when I turn on the ignition the glow light goes on for a second , not like before for about 3-4 seconds and the car does not start as if the glow plugs are not heating up what could be the problem
Ron, it seems you are using a very good microphone now. Your videos are very good man but your voice is hard to hear. thanks for the good audio and keep up the good work. BTW, i agree with 21 diesel. I actually did do a oil cooler on a ford. But before I stated, I watched your video. It really was a big help my friend !!!!!!!!!
I have a fault code on glow plug 5 on my 2006 superduty... Is it safe to assume that it is the plug or wire and nothing else since it's only throwing a code on one glow plug...??? Your thoughts
So at 8:26 he said "On the earlier 7.3..." when he's obviously now working on a LATE 7.3. The late 7.3 has 2 RELAYS, side by side on the passenger side. One is the glow plug relay, the other is the air intake heater relay. This is what I meant when I said you have to watch his videos over and over to figure out what he really means. He is in California, so when he says "early 7.3", he means before they switched to the glow plug CONTROLLER, which was only on CA emissions vehicles. For the rest of us, if you have 2 relays side by side, you have a late 99, also referred to as a 99.5.
I had 1994 e350 IDI 7.3 internacional engine Few months ago I replaced the injectors and now went a drive for 15 miles turn off the engine wait half hour and trying start takes longer and kill my battery’s Any idea or phone ☎️ I can call? Tanks
I have a question.I have a 99 7.3 Ford every time I drive it in the rain it turns off and when I turn it back on it runs fine do you know how to fix this problem?
uiioo Doppoud i hate to say this...dieseltechron has passed away. He died in an unfortunate vehicle crash (not in a ford). Check and make sure your windshield isn't leaking water.
possible blow by. open your oil cap while the truck is running and if white smoke starts pouring, its probably safe to say on of your piston rings have snapped or broke. due for a rebuild
hay man I really need some help I've been threw hell an back trying to fix my 95 7.3 obs it start everyday with no help runs strong for exactly 5 minutes then dies like I turned the key off and will only start again several hours later
When you're learning how to diagnose problems, it is imperative that the proper terms be used, or the info being taught is confusing at best, or could lead you to doing something wrong, at worst. This guy calls the glow plug relay the "control" several times, which can be confusing. On California emissions trucks and Excursions, it is called a Glow Plug Control Module. On federal emissions trucks, it is called the Glow Plug RELAY. The 2 items are completely different. You gotta watch his videos over and over to figure out what the F he really means sometimes!!!
I realize Ron died recently, so I mean no disrespect, but even though he obviously knows his stuff, many times his instruction is confusing. At 16:36, he numbers the glow plugs, 1-3-5-7, with 1 and 5 at the top, but then later in the video, he starts at the top right, with #1, then goes down for #3, then calls the BOTTOM connection on the left #5. He uses a lot of terms that are vague, stuff like " This one tells the PCM to turn on and pulls on it..." (something like that). "Pulls" on WHAT? What does that mean??
god bless Ron. As a proud owner of a 7.3l every problem i seem to face, ( im only at 130k miles) he has a video for. Bless h is soul what an amazing man, may he rest in peace

The air intake tube heater (if you have a truck equipped with the cold weather package.)
