Woodturning - Oil Transforms the Look of this Crotch!

- This week’s project is a large platter turned from a Chinese Tallow crotch. I got this wood from a neighbor when they had it cut down from their backyard. Chinese Tallow is considered a nuisance tree in my area so people are often trying to get rid of them.
It’s amazing what beauty wood can hide inside. The wood really pops once I apply some oil to the crotch!
Thank you all for watching! I’ve got some other exiting news which I’ve yet to announce in a video but I’ve created a website. Please go and check it out if you’re interested in purchasing any turnings which I’ve created!

Your vision was right Nicely turned beautiful 🤩 grain. Finish 👀 looked great and looked tactile 🍾
Oh my goodness, that turned out beautiful. Robert, you made a piece of wood just come to life. I love Harry too, he cracks me up.
Fantastic results yet again, Robert. More power to you for putting up with Harry's 13-year old mind.
Hello my friend,
Congratulations my friend, your work is always more innovative and practical than serious. I watched a great lathe work. I always like your ideas. Thank you for this beautiful sharing. see you later. All the best.
That's just some amazing graining!!! Glad you could make Harry happy!
Looks great Robert...Harry has good taste in wood..
pun intended...stay safe...press on 😎 Joe
Thanks Joe! Harry loves all varieties of wood!
I have some serious lathe envy going on
Dude! The grain in that is breathtaking, and the shape has an awesome flow to it!
Two big thumbs up! !!!
Nice work Robert and I'm sure Harry will love the taste of the walnut oil. Stay safe.
Hello Robert.
I just discovered your channel a few weeks ago and directly subscribed. You create awesome pieces of art and I also like your and Harry's sense of humour.
Who doesn't like a shiny crotch?
Greetings from germany
Great to hear Thorsten! Glad you found me and my Harry Beaver!
Robert, thanks for sharing, such a fabulous looking piece, the grain pattern is definitely unique .
Robert, Super awesome looking hunk of crotch wood! Harry rocks!
Absolutely gorgeous crotch platter Robert. Sorry that I named it a platter. Thanks for sharing.
Stunning piece Robert 😲
Beautiful bowl mate thanks!
Wow, what a difference. Thanks for sharing. Full View and Like 👍
Wow What a Stunning piece of wood never heard of it before but it sure is nice
Very nice Hodge. Great project 😁👍🏼👏
Excellent piece. I picked up some Hickory and rough turned it into a cylinder to see it it was worthwhile to turn. I had my doubts since it had many gray tones and not what was typical of Hickory. Seeing the rejuvenation of the wood with the oil makes me want to complete the turning to see the possibilities. Thanks for the inspiration Robert.
Very nice, Robert! I love turning Chinese Tallow! It spalts very quickly and finishes beautifully. It is also unbelievably light and like you said, quite soft. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get my hands on anything that large... yet.
Beautiful piece!!!
Très jolie Hodge Robert 👍👏🇨🇭
Wow it looks beautiful
Great job,👍👍👍
nice wood
Dirty beaver needs a bath, that was a really great piece the grain in the crotch is AWESOME, thanks for sharing 😁😁🌹💘
Harry could eat a bar of soap and he would still be a dirty beaver. Thanks for watching Ellen!
Beautiful design and the grain is wonderful thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Tim!
Beautiful big bowl, Robert. 😊
Thanks Rob!
Wow! Absolutely the oil makes this piece. Crotch grain, spalting, what more can a turner ask for? Beautifully turned bowl. Very nice.
I was scared seeing Harry so close to the bandsaw.
“Oil transforms the look of this crotch”

where can I find this holy oil Hodgepodge
If your crotch needs help in the looks department you can try Mahoney's Walnut Oil.....or Tequila.

I have a neighbor that just gave me a huge Chinese Tallow if I will cut it for him. Probably 24-30” at butt of log, still considering it.
That sounds about the same size as the tree my neighbor had. The logs I got then just stayed outside on cement for about 3 months and developed this interesting spalting.
@@HodgePodgeWoodWorks yours lol oks amazing
WOW, that crotch is gorgeous. Great job bringing out the beauty of the wood. Are those Ashley Harwood tools you are using and if so how do you like them? I've been thinking about buying some.
You do beautiful work. But way too many crouch references. My step kids are interested in wood working but there's no way we can watch your video together.
