    I had a mid 1960's black CB160 back in high school in Southern California, putting more than 30,000 miles on the motorcycle in my mid teen years. After having had a number of friends killed on motorcycles vs cars, I then bought a 1967 Olds 442. Loved motorcycles, but now too old and too fragile to get back on one these days. Memories.

    I had a solid white one back in the late 60s and I racked up over 50,000 miles on it before I sold it and bought a 750. I even rode it to Yosemite from the Bay Area on the 60 MPH + highways. It was a super reliable little bike and I have many good memories thanks to it.

    I remember that a friend of mine had one in high school back around '67. Man, did I want one. To teenage kid, a Honda CB 160 was a kind of big bike! And that unmistakable 160 ROAR made it even sound even more powerful and menacing. I ended up, at age 14, with a Honda Sport 50 my dad bought me. Not bad for free(I didn't work to pay for it) and the kid with the CB 160 had a paper route. At least he had a nice ride while he was delivering papers! I wouldn't have traded my high school years in the late sixties for anyone else's.

    I had one of those back in the 70's, it was my first bike and I felt like I was riding an IOM racer. It had a lot of features, a large twin leading front shoe brake that needed detuning in the wet, long carb inlets, twin carbs, electric start. The engine was so simply designed and easy to take apart and work on especially compared to British bikes at the time, you only really needed an 8mm, 10mm, 12mm and 14mm

      Me too, I wish I had kept it. That engine sound brings back great memories.

    I bought a new red one in June '65 and rode it from San Jose to Davis-Monthan AFB at Tucson. I'd had a Vespa then a Yamaha 80 before that. If I could have afforded it, I'd have liked a CL77!

    I know that all vehicles are built to a price, but having owned one this bike sorely needed a tachometer. Really did.

    Where are your rear view mirrors?

    Where is this, it seems my ears are hearing a 180 degree crankshaft whereas all the 160s I knew (owned three of them) were 360 degree cranks. Those paper air filters did allow quite some bark from full throttle.

    What was the top cruising speed on the bike?

    • @outbackeddie
      @outbackeddie 4 года назад +3

      I had one back in the 60s and I managed to get it up to 80 MPH one time. But realistically 60 was about all you could expect for a reliable cruising speed (and that was even pushing it a little bit). Super nice little bike though. I put 50,000 miles on mine before selling it.

      If you mean could you be safe on the highway (i.e. 60 per or so) it would do that all day long, literally. With a slipstream or tailwind it would probably do 75 per on top. Just remember to keep the battery charged, the oil level up, change it regularly and clean the oil slinger every change. Even with a 10,500 rpm redline it'll run forever.

    That roaring sound is lacking in today's generation of bikes. Thats why I do not like current bikes.
