I have owned several 305 CB77 and 250 CB72s. While the 305 is more versatile, for cruising around town the CB160 is the best of them. The ride is all charm.
The 305 is certainly more versitile but honestly at this point, there are alot more versitile vintage bikes out there at this point as well that I'd rather have over a 305. As far as something to pound through the gears on around town, I'd take the 160 for sure!
Loved my ‘65. Way faster than the 161 cc’s would suggest. In those days in my small hometown we had an 1/8 mile section of a low traffic highway eyeball measured for drag racing. The 175cc Honda scrambler didn’t stand a chance. Raced a 300 Dream an entire quarter mile. I always had a good reaction time, but he out torqued me off the line and I was a length behind right away. He couldn’t pull away after that. When he turned around to look at the end and saw me nearly at his back wheel, his eyes almost popped out. Ha!
Second best bike I ever had!
Exactly! It's crazy how quick and how much fun they are to ride, very unexpected when you haven't ridden one before!
What was the first best bike you had?
Loved my Baby Hawk it was my first bike and was so much fun.
Yep, one of the most fun old Honda's out there! We'll argue that one all day long!
I had a 67 Bridgestone 175 hurricane and it would blow the 160 hondas in the weeds. 85+ mph top end easily, 17 flat in the quarter mile, I wish I had it back, candy apple red and chrome, very reliable easy to service.
Well, that's not surprising that a 175cc twin cylinder two stroke would beat out a 160cc four stroke motorcycle, LOL. I bet that one could probably even keep up with the Superhawks? That sounds like a mean ride, one bike that neither of us have been on yet and for sure would if given the opportunity :)
Why does this thingy sound so good? DAYUM😎👍
The CB160's are one of the best-sounding, most under-appreciated bikes that Honda made! Even the video doesn't do justice to actually riding one :)
I'm 70, so I was a teenager when these things were popular. I grew up in DeQuincy, LA in the '60's and a good friend of mine had a black one. I always had said that they sounded like a much larger bike with that full throated roar when those twin carburators opened up. Cool as hell!
360 crankshaft
Bought mine used red CB160 for $300.00; rode it all through high school
Nice! What a cool bike to have owned back when they were new!
i had this bike in the mid to late 1960s great bike fun to ride one of the fist bikes with Electric start
Nice! Yeah, these are one of the most fun old Hondas both of us have ridden, to date. Very underrated on the grin factor.
We probably sold more CB160s than any other model in the '66 model year from our dealership in White Plains, N.Y. I had three of them, commuted on one from upstate to Yonkers, N.Y. for one year to a dealer I eventually worked for there. I was a tech/service manager and the 160s were very trusty and roadworthy. I eventually sold my commuter bike with about 25k miles and it barely smoked at start-up. Mine were black, that red was tough to match though each unit came with a tiny can of touch-up paint, even tire tools in those days. Simple, super little twins in the formative era of motorcycle popularity and ease of ownership. Edit: the frame design was taken directly from the geometry of the CR93 racing 125 as near as I could tell. The CR racing seat was a bolt-on fit as well as a few other pieces of hardware though not the fuel tank.
That's a crazy amount of miles for a small bike! I haven't actually seen many 160's with high miles like that on them, so it's cool to know that they went that long without needing anything. Good luck getting that on some of the newer stuff out there today without major maintanance.
That's very interesting that the frame design was pulled from the racing model as you stated. I did not know that, very cool peice of information!
Thanks for the comment!
i had one in 1968, great little bike, cb72 / 77 foot rest assemblies fit nicely on them, gives a rear set fitting, just need to modify the gear change lever.
Nice! I didn't know that you could mount a Superhawk or Scrambler foot pegs onto a 160 with some modifications! I'll have to keep that in mind!
I learned to ride on one of these. It had "suicide bars".
Of all the bikes that would have those type of handlebars on them, we can't say that Honda 160 is what we envision 😂
But, alot of old Honda's back in the day apparently did, judging by the amount of chopped up barn finds that still have them installed......
Bought my first, a blue one 1965 in PNG. My second same colour 1969 when I returned and have never loved a bike more since.
Wow, we haven't seen too many blue 160's out there....they seem to be mostly red, black, and white.
They are fantastic machines - one of the most fun and underrated motorcycles that Honda made.
Amazing looks fantastic. Cool
Thank you!
Old bikes so cool 😎
They certainly are!
I had a blue one . Little 160 would scoot . Fun little bike that performed above its weight class .
Nice! They definitely move and perform very well for their size/weight. And, 'fun' is an understatement :)
I had the CL model with high pipes in silver. What a bike! Had a 305 also.
I had a CL160 as well several years back, and it sounded even better with the two into one high pipe exhaust! Loved it. Have had a CB77 too :)
My first bike sweet little bike loved it
They're definitely a fun and under-appreciated ride! Thanks for the comment!
I had one just like it.
Nice!
Made my fingers go numb resting on the edge of the ipad
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
hot hot i,m just starting a resto on one
Nice!!! They are super fun bikes and a blast to ride. Love the super smooth running engine on them. Good luck 👍
need both sidecovers and fork lower leg covers... u dont have spares? cheers Al
@@alwood9148 unfortunately not 😕
My first bike, foolishly I traded it in for a Harley XLCH. What a load of crap, more time in shop than on the road.
Ha! I bet you did regret trading that towards the Sportster at the time.
As much as a peice of crap as it was though, I bet you also wish you still had that old XLCH right now!!!
Im having the same problem on my 1968 CD175 bog and lean cylinder im gonna check the carb over again.. is there anything else that can cause that?
I'd say to just check and make sure the jets aren't clogged, along with the emulsion tube (part the main screws into). Also make sure you don't have any air leaks
I want to purchase
It already sold in Bring a Trailer, sorry.
Where it is available ?

@@retro_grade 3rd gen toys for life.
I was born and raised in an 82 shortbox pickup. My dad bought it brand new in 82 and drove it until i was ten, swamp every sunday. He then sold it to a friend, bought it back 3 years later and did the body and a 5 inch lift with 35" Goodyear a/t s. Glory days.
Ha, thanks man! That's Andrew's truck (the guy on the 160). He's had it for quite some time. I've got the 2019 3rd gen.
Both Andrew and I are starting up this channel, guess we need to distinguish who is replying? Lol
