I have this snare and it is one of my G-O-O-D snares. (Get Out Of Debt) snares. I purchased it because I believed it would increase in value and THANK GOD it has! Although I had a plethora of snares, I had never had a Ludwig snare and when the Ludwig 110th Anniversary snares came out, I became a believer in the LUDWIG SNARE SOUND! In addition to this snare, I got the 110th Anniversary Maple, and the 110th Anniversary Black Beauty! Each drum is a WORKMANSHIP OF ART in my humble opinion. I love them so much that I just purchased the Black Beauty Hot Rod edition snare. I guess I am in love with Ludwig snares. Mr. Costa, I love your videos and how well you review drum equipment. Your drum sound is PHENOMENAL and your cymbal select is Harmonious! Keep "Jammin" on the ONE! GOD BLESS YOU!

That was a smart move - which I bought 2 with the value going through the roof with this one! Appreciate the kind words, and for checking out the videos 🙏🏼 🥁

Even at the cranked setting it’s unbelievable how much bottom end is still produced from this drum! Maintains so much depth

Pretty crazy, right?! You can still find the original 7x14 heirloom brass for a reasonable price. I’m sure if you throw die cast hoops on it, it will sound very close to this!

Beautiful sound snare! I tend to like the medium-high running and the cranked one better than most, but all of them are super good!

Nice! What did you like about those tunings the most? I like the medium high too - has great attack and still some body

    • @Dad.son_drums

@@NickCostaMusic I think from the low running and the medium low produce overtones that seems like the hardware is a little loose and the overtone is too high. It doesn’t match quite well with low running. The medium tuning is ok, but nothing special. Then the medium high seems like it produces the most matching overtones. Nothing is out of place. It’s warm, but it cuts like a metal drum. The high tuning is good too! It’s got a beautiful cut, but then the cranked is even better. Anyway, just what my ears like the best.

That’s a great explanation of the tuning ranges. You’re right, the shell is really resonant at low tunings - add that to the snares really rattling, you have an interesting sound. Maybe if I muted the shell a bit with a heavier head or slight muffling it would help with the higher overtone 🤔

What a beautiful snare in both sound and looks; do you do videos on how to convince one's spouse on needing more drums? LOL! As always, great video and a very thorough run-through of how the product performs, thanks so much!

That’s not a bad idea! I always start by saying snare drums are like shoes, you can’t have enough! Note that only works if your wife is a shoe fan 😂
I really appreciate the kind words, and happy to hear you enjoyed the video. Thank you 🙏🏼 🥁

These type of snares that have me hooked on brass. One thing I will concede to, Ludwig knows how to put out a banger when it comes to snare drums. Still not fully coming to the dark side Nick LOL

    Hell'o, good morning.
Thank you for this video. Honestly, how does this Heirloom 14x7 brass snare 110th anniversary sound ? Compared to a Supraphonic, what can we say about it ? Is the shell solid (not a seamless one) ? Good snare for Classic-Rock / Blues ?
    All the best...🙏

    • @NickCostaMusic
      @NickCostaMusic  11 месяцев назад +1

Depends on your supraphonic - but if it's the traditional chrome over aluminum, The 110 brass will have warmer overtones. The shell is 3mm thick, seamless, and has no bead compared to a seamless aluminum beaded shell on the supraphonic. I think any brass snare is great for classic-rock/blues!

Thank you very much for the quick response. Is the shell 3mm thick on the 110th anniversary Heirloom Brass? Seamless shell? On the standard Heirloom models (steel and brass), it is 1mm, right?
      Very cool vidéo ! 🫵👍
      All the best...🤟

Apologies! All heirloom shells are 1mm and seamless - standard models and this one.

These used to go for between $500-$650 ish on Sweetwater etc, now they are on Ebay for $1300 ! . Post pandemic, I acquired 3 Ludwig snare's (Not done by a mile ! ). Not sure why I keep grinning like a clown/monkey when I play a Luddy snare ! 😇🤣

    • @NickCostaMusic

I know - kinda wished I grabbed 2!! You can still find the original 7x14 heirloom brass for those prices. I bet if you put a set of Ludwig die cast hoops on it, it would sound pretty close to this one.
Often imitated, never duplicated - you can’t beat the sound of Ludwig! 🥁

@@NickCostaMusic 💯 agree, I would say the same thing about the Ludwig Classic Maple drum sets. IMHO, That is what an All Maple drum set should sound like ! (On my buy list 😊)

One of the reasons why it’s my primary kit. The versatility of the kit and the Tom tones, you can’t come close to it with anything else.
