Another great video Matt! So, I presume his battle with the ocean is one of erosion… Maybe, Tommy could talk about that ongoing project in another video. Life-long DIY guys, like myself, are interested in that type of thing. Keep up the interesting topics; you guys are doing great! Clarence
Thank You so much! The first wall was poorly made and the water washes it strongly, washing the sand from under it. Now they are making the second wall much deeper, I wonder how it will end, in my opinion it would be good to drive reinforced concrete piles there, then build a wall based on them, but this is heavy engineering. Unless they can dig into the reef rock and anchor a new wall in it. I would works aswell.
When uncle tommy said “God Damn man” as he turned from looking at his ocean view, that’s how happy I aspire to be when I retire man. Would be nice to sit down with this cool man and have a beer next time I come visit the Philippines. Seems like he’ll never run out of stories to tell lol.

Hi! Matt said that you don't have to apply for a tourist visa. You will have that when you arrive here at the PH airport, they will stamp you and you will have a free tourist visa for one month. Then after one month, you'll have to extend and pay. The tourist visa can be extended until 3 years then when it's over you'll need to go out of the PH for one day and you'll have a new tourist like before. Hope this help!

Hi Matt, Very inspiring. Even at 70, he is full of life, and he is living the life he wants. He has a big house. How much it costs if I have to buy a decent house on Siquijor?

But before 2016 the PH's were cheap too.

I live in Phoenix AZ, pretty hot in summer, about 43C everyday for about 4 months. My highest electric bill has been about $75/mo in summer, $25 the rest of the year. Yeah most Americans spend a lot more but that's because they don't do anything to reduce electric use. It looks like this is true in the Philippines.
Electricity in the PI is high compared to other Asian countries. Korea is the lowest at .08 per kWh while US is about .15 and PI is around .20. Mexico is also low at around .09 or so.

If you do not need to rent a room, flat or house, the cost of living in the Philippines is not high. it all depends on a lot of things, whether it's single life plus parties, or usually single life, whether it's life with a woman, wife, children or no children. there's tons of everything that goes into the cost of living in the Philippines. do we buy most of the food in the store, or do we have most of the food from our own garden and land. One thing can be said for sure… living in the Philippines is more beautiful than living in Western countries….💪🏻😎 Pozdro mordo…😎😎
I was always told an American can not own property in Philippines. Does that change if the Filipina spouse passes on? Does the property legally pass to the American surviving spouse?
This is a very good question, but I don't know the answer at this point. It is true that a foreigner cannot own land in the Philippines, but there are some ways to get around this.
Yes. Every time we buy a piece of property, I include my husband's name in the title. Therefore , he is my sole beneficiary. Please check with your lawyer during any contract. You can put some sort of memorandum of agreement regarding your wish in case of death or divorce. Check with the lawyer about USUFRUCT. This should protect your rights and interest as a foreigner. Good 🤞
It’s nice when your have enough money that you don’t really need to budget it every month. $2,000 per month in the US is poverty level although some people can survive OK
@16:37 he says his house was originally going to be a resort, but you say in a comment that he built the house himself. Did he start out building a resort? I'd like to know more about his house, what it cost him to build, whether in fact he started out building a resort, if so why did he decide not to, how long it's taken him to build, when he expects the place to be done, concerns about typhoons living on the ocean, etc. Can you do another video?
First, he built a part of the house in which we were doing the interview, then he added the second part (the one that is undeveloped) with the thought that it would be a guest house. Now he arranges the second part for his apartment, with a larger kitchen, bathroom and a bedroom overlooking the sea. His only problem is the sea washing away the wall that secures the rest of the property.
I watched both videos (part 1 and part 2) ... I really enjoyed them ... Especially since I am from the San Francisco Bay Area and very familiar with Oakland CA ... I really hope his battle with the ocean is realistic ... and that he wins ... Great job !!

I guess Balut is out of the question for this brother
No no! Never ask him about that 🤣
He sounds exactly like Morgan Freeman
Morgan Freeman of the Philippines? 😎
It’s nice when your have enough money that you don’t really need to budget it every month. $2,000 per month in the US is poverty level although some people can survive OK
Our monthly budget is half of that for a 2 + 2 family. So having $ 2,000 a month here is quite a lot.
