It just rose to the top of mine, too. I’m still going to test a 2022 Bronson asap, but really, I’m pretty sure I won’t want the 29 on my bike at all - even if it’s just in front. -_-
Yea that oxblood is giving me vampire lust. I'm still on 27.5 at the moment and don't really want to go 29'r so I'm glad companies are still making 650b bikes that rip. Having owned a 2019 Bronson I already know the suspension platform is great. This is at the very top of my list now.
Totally love it, riding my 2020 Bronson but in rough terrain full of rocks gardens here, I am thinking about this beast. I am just little bit afraid about how difficult will be riding nomad all day in mountains compared with bronson.
So, geometry wise, what're the differences between the new one vs the old Nomad 4? I have a Nomad 4 CC but if the new changes are worth it, I might get the frame-only option and swap all my stuff.
head angles are about a 1-degree slacker, reaches are longer across the board (10mm longer on our medium), seat angles are about 3 to 4 degrees steeper. seat tubes are shorter and chainstay lengths are size specific.
Got a feeling this will age very very well. Both in tech, looks and ride-ability. I feel like tech has matured to the point where this will easily be relevant for years and years.
Slayer would hit it! I love this machine. I ride a 2022 V4 S build 5010 in size Large but with Carbon Reserve 30 (DT Swiss Hubs) wheel upgrade I'm the almost same height 1" taller at 5'10" but same 30" inseam as Brad so should I be riding a size Medium in the Nomad and for that matter the 5010? When I bought that bike in October 2021 the medium just left me feeling too cramped? I'm buying a Nomad (X01 AXS Reserve Kit) this week as I hear the 2023 will go mullet and prefer the 27.5 setup. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK Vital MTB WE IN THE UK LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
Mine is Nomad V-5 CC Oxblood Medium size, DHX2 on trhe rear and FOX 38 180 Shiny Orange on the front..., very nice to ride, more stable on root and more grip on berm...., the Best....!!!!
slayer would hit it.. but dope bike very well put together review but how does one pick from a sea of the same what makes S.C, Canyon, Polygon, Cannondale, Evil, and Alchemy bikes Differ? i have a Cannondale Trail Two Hard Tail Looking to upgrade in the spring.
that's the question we all face. so many bikes are so good, you almost can't go wrong these days (aside from any customer service issues that could come up). availability may be your biggest decision-maker.
Slayer would hit that... but on a side note ... the base model nomad is probably the best bang for the buck... last gen nomad aluminum started out at 4k... if the carbon model starts out at 4k ... thats a steal
too bad you didn't mentioned the very very interesting fact that you can actually shorten and extend the travel of the bike - at least in theory. the shock has 62.5mm stroke - you can extended it to 65 to get +5/10mm of travel, or shorten it to 60mm to get -5/10. I think that is a great option for different applications - when you shorten it, it will stiffen up a bit and vice versa, go plusher when you extend it. will that also change a bit of the HA, SA, and BB? same goes for growing or losing 2 teeth on the chainring - so a lot of options there. would like to know if that was made on purpose, so you can do this, or is it just a lucky brake for the rider. is it expensive? heck yeah - that's why I ride YT. also, can't really go back to lesser progressive bikes, so I get to save 8.7K's... lol
Oxblood is sick! The Medium has numbers that I teally like. 450mm Reach, the 1225mm WB, 64 Deg HTA, and the 78 deg STA, but I would prefer 5mm longer chainstay. Top Tube length is about 15-20mm shorter than traditional.mediums, but still very doable. Now SC just needs a Mullett Nomad with the same numbers!
Hey guys, just clarifying what you mentioned about the dropper post. Is it possible to run a 175mm post on on a medium and have it slammed to the collar?
Just threw a Fox 38 on my 2019 Bronson. Stoked!! Maybe in a couple years I'll get that 2021 Nomad. But I've never trail ridden a 29'er so things might change.
Slayer would hit it! Lol multiple shots fired! Love the humor y’all provide and prefer your reviews since the terrain better translates to what I ride vs Squamish
Slayer would hit it Now that I'm done - shame there's no alloy option, hoping that will come next year. The alloy Nomad was good value for the money, and a sweet park rig.
As someone who doesn't know about bikes, I'm genuinely curious why some cost as much as a small hatch back in the U.K? What Engineering are you paying for??
this is VERY general, but the same reason a porsche costs more than a yaris. volume of production is part of it (number of high end parts vs mass produced parts) and it comes down to materials used and overall weight of the parts. light carbon or precisely machined metal parts on an expensive build vs heavier stamped parts on less expensive builds.
Well, shit. Was happy with my Nomad 4 & planning on just picking up a 38 Fork for it. Looks like there may be some “Ox Blood” in 2021. Great work guys. Where were you riding? Looks a bit like Utah.
That color in the sun looks pretty outstanding! The green looks really sweet too. XO1 and XT builds are a little too pricey, looks like xt build doesn't even have carbon wheels. Seems the XO1 carbon wheels are just DT swiss. Too pricey for what your getting on these builds. I wonder about Cascade components creating a link for this?
With the permutations of builds and options, keeping track of pricing can be a bit tricky. Any builds that feature carbon wheels will be Santa Cruz's Reserve rims, with a lifetime warranty. The standard (alloy rim) builds of these bikes are in line with many other brands specs. The $6,199 for the XT build is the same price as Devinici's new Troy XT LTD.
I have been waiting for this release for months as I am building a new Nomad for 2021. Almost bought the 2020 frame because I was tired of waiting. Damn glad I didn't. 2021 Nomad CC frame in Oxblood order going in now!
@@Trucking_Tom got it from my local shop. Went in and asked them what they had coming and put down a deposit and told them whatever comes first is mine! Can't be to picky this year. Bike is amazing! Hands down the most playful and fun bike I think I've ridden. I've done everything from huge bike park days to chill local laps on it and it handles everything with ease. Highly highly recommended! Will likely be keeping this bike till they drop a new gen
I dont understand how santa cruz is coming out with new bikes when they cant fulfill the orders for the current bikes? I ordered a hightower the first week of june and just got it 3 days ago. Most manufactures are saying they cannot deliver bikes till the middle of next year, how is SC going to deliver these? What about all the bikes that have been ordered months ago that they cant deliver?
this year i have sold my specialized stumpjumper 2017 carbon to buy some enduro and XC bike. ended up building 2018 Nomad V4 CC with FOX 36 elite, shimano XT 12s+XX1 carbon cranks,XA-elite wheels tubeless, carbon handlebar from NS,shimano saint brakes and few other things for around 2,500$. No need for XC so far after using climb switch on suspension. I'm impresed how this super enduro machine can go up... i do rlly mean that. My previous stumpy (forgot to say that was mullet) couldn't climb half that good with half of SC susp. Also Nomad weight less. But this new nomad should be called V4.5 cuz not that much have changed like V2 vs V3 or V3 vs V4
Not a 27.5 guy but If i did I would probably go with the mach 6. Price wise it's a good value for what you get. It's the lower models in the lineup that are overpriced. Once you hit the 4k mark you shouldn't see a nx drivetrain. Minimum should be gx imo
Interesting proposal. Pivot does not even offer a bike at that price point, they start at $6,000 for GX parts. The comparable X01 Mach 6 is $9,000 and lacks carbon wheels as well as a lesser-expensive (but still good) FOX 36.
@@vitalmtb I was saying that the higher end Santa Cruz is a good price point. It’s their lower tier bikes I think are too high. I talked about the pivot because of the dw which I prefer over vpp. I know pivots aren’t cheap
Yet it has nifty features for ease of maintenance such as tube in tube, but nothing makes it stand out such as in frame storage. SC is getting long in the tooth as the majority of good brands get the same features. I love my Hightower V2, but I wish I bought the Specialized Enduro.
When we talked to Santa Cruz about it they said that in order to preserve the geometry and handling characteristics of the bike, one would have to reduce the fork travel considerably, which would again, compromise what the bike is. It has been our experience that in mulleting a bike, it is best to start with a 29er that has a flip-chip and swap the rear wheel, putting the chip in the "high" position. Though our findings are more subjective than conclusive.
This is an awesome bike and I'd absolutely love one because mountain biking is so good for your mental health amongst other things, but let's be honest most people can't even afford to spend $8,000 on a car these days let alone a bicycle. Most decent mountain bikes are slowly creeping further and further away from the average Joe in terms of affordability. I can only hope I win the lottery!
yeah, the santa cruz bike developers said they played around w/ mullet on this bike, but the need for a 150mm 29er fork to keep geometry in check didn't seem worth it.
